Imed - but which one?

There are a lot of bad reviews about Imed hospitals. I feel they may be different in different branches. Our experience is about Torrevieja and Elche. We have just joined Imed as Salus stopped using Quiron hospitals. It has been very good - better than Quiron! Receptionists at Torrevieja are very good indeed - all doctors have been friendly most spoke very good English and waiting time at reception and to see doctors are better and quicker. We use the app for everything. Great service. Thanks

Inaccurate diagnosis, almost fatal

My dad was admitted to hospital with visible signs of a stroke. When I spoke with him on a video call, I could see a droop on the right side of his face and he could hardly walk. He was also finding it difficult to breathe when lying down.
At the hospital there was no proper assessment done. Despite my dad informing the doctor that he thinks he has had a stroke, there was no motor assessment done.
An xray was done but despite my dad telling them he has known heart failure and has previously had heart attacks they diagnosed him with pneumonia and gave him antibiotics. (When infact he had fluid in his lungs from a heart attack)
I was very concerned that their diagnosis was wrong so I tried to speak to the staff but the staff refused to speak to me.
Although Benidorm is a popular tourist destination there was apparently no staff who spoke English and there was no way to translate.
The basic care in the hospital was also unacceptable. Over a six hour period my dad was not offered any food or drink.
Thankfully my dad discharged himself from hospital, managed to get a flight home and we took him straight to A&E where they confirmed a TIA and a heart attack!
This could have been fatal if my dad had accepted this incompetent diagnosis and just taken antibiotics! This is totally unacceptable! Please be mindful of this when diagnosed at this hospital.

I had an accident in benidorm where i was taken to a public hospital then my insurers who are with my bank sent me to imed hospital where i was told i had a broken back and needed surgery straight away on my t8 vertibre on my lower spine
As they were about to make arrangements for surgery i was told my insurance is not covering the cost as i was out there longer than a month i was meant to let them know , which i dont understand as they take payments every month
Anyway i was told they had to move me to a public hospital and from that day on i was given no treatment and was 5 weeks until they moved me and even the surgeons couldnt believe how long it was taking them to move me as i needed this operation
Now i understand why as they want 14,000 euros for keeping me there
And was told i wasnt going to be charged for me being there
They put my life in jepordy just to earn money out of me
I am taking this all the way
I have solicitors on it now and they never even sent any corispondance to me they sent it straight to bailives in england which is causing me distress and i still have a broken back as they left it to late for me to have surgery

Unhappy experience

My mother (86) was recently admitted to this hospital due to gastroenteritis.
The two male doctors that we seen were very nice and spoke excellent English.
The nursing staff however, appeared not to care, did not speak any English and dismissive.
For the hugh amount of money this hospital receives from insurance companies, they should invest some of it into staff training.

Reception Staff were fantastic, despite being very Busy, !!

The Reception team's outstanding perfomance this morning has to be commended.
I have in the past at times criticised heavily IMED Elche Reception and processes, but over the last few weeks of use, I have noticed a new air of professionalism and interest from the Reception and support staff,
The team this AM for me turned around my visit from a 3.5 hour session with various doctors by rearranging appointments and reduced the time frame to one hour, The young lady on the New extension was exceptional , as indeed were the main reception staff and the Radiologia Dept,,
Medical service was as always excellent,
Total experience was faultless, well done IIMED!

Highly recommended 👌

I have just had 20 Physio therapy sessions on my broken right hand. I cannot fault every member of staff. Always on time and so accommodating and empathy. They all speak good English too! Super friendly and efficient. I can highly recommend everyone and the Traumatology Doctors. 10/10 Thankyou so much ❤️

Inexperienced and rude staff who can't even perform simple tasks like taking blood samples…the hospital management should be aware of it and train their staff as to how they should treat the patients which is their only value to continue in this business..

I came on holiday to Benidorm with my partner on 21st April. Unfortunately, I became unwell a few days later and was advised to visit the IMED hospital Lavente.
I can honestly say it was the best advice ever… I presented with symptoms of an unknown allergy and straight away they put me through A&E to be checked over my doctor who then advised me to stay as an in-patient to be observed. I stayed in the hospital for 2 nights and during my stay I also had a consultation with a specialist allergist where they advised me on being fit to fly and prescribed all the necessary medication that I would need prior and during my journey home.
The doctors, nurses and all staff on reception were amazing, although I speak English, and there was a slight language barrier, they all tried their best to accommodate my needs and I am really appreciative of this.
Amazing hospital and facilities, great staff and even better patient care..
Thank you all for looking after me at such an unfortunate time on my holiday.

Do not go to this Hospital!

I was admitted on 18th March to Imed Levante Hospital within hours of being in Benidorm after slipping in the bathroom at my Apartment. I'd broken my arm & caused nerve damage, rendering my arm & hand useless. They were put in a caste & I spent the next 6 nights/days being dealt with by rude, unhelpful & downright unpleasant staff. I had no offer of help when given my food trays and staff openly saw me struggling to prop pillows up with one hand & try to cut up food and ignored it. The cannula kept coming out of my hand, and multiple attempts kept being made to find another vein, without a query about the discomfort or pain I was in. I was woken from my operation stark naked, when I'd had a gown from chest down on pre~op. I had to ask for a sheet to cover me. I was offered no pain relief, so again had to ask. My bed wasn't changed in 4 days, so I had to ask a Nurse to change it for me (an English lady called Donna, who kindly gave me a body wash too). On the final day my husband and I waited over 7 hours for a Fit to Fly letter, that Nobody asked for at any point at Alicante Airport. We were told by Patrick (Liaison) to go to our Reception on the 3rd floor with updates re Insurance and each time my husband was told "We can't help you, you need to go to the Main Reception ". I was given medication & had to ask what it was for , as the instruction was "You need to take this", sometimes in pop~out form, rendering difficulty again. I was given no medication on discharge, so had to buy over-the-counter. With the exception of the Surgeon, Isa & Donna, the rest of the staff were generally very rough in their handling of me, unfriendly and unhelpful. As a Healthcare Professional of over 20 years, I have Never experienced anything like it, and never want to again. It was traumatic & distressing & I wouldn't wish their so~called "Care" on anybody.

Just don’t

Do not put yourself through the stress of going here. Go to the public hospital. Unfortunately I have previously had to claim on insurance years ago my daughter collapsed so know some of how it works, after initial payment the insurance liased with the hospital and payments were taken over by the insurance, it was a private hospital they said she could stay there as it was near to us and she needed a brain scan plus the ambulance had taken her there & she was a child, but generally they want you to go to the public one.

The only reason we went here is because it was a Sunday & we were staying across the road, my daughter was pregnant and her face was going numb & in absolute agony, didn’t want to risk travelling. The receptionist gave us forms, we were also on the phone to the insurance, receptionist said ask who the assisting company is (underwriter) but she’s asking one thing and insurance are dealing with it how they deal with it, hospital wanted €150 up front and said we may have to pay more or they may refund some depending on what happens. I asked specifically before you proceed please let me know what the next step is and how much it will cost as for dentistry the insurance had said will cover up to £250 as we thought it may be tooth.

Insurance asked us do we want them to take over costs or pay and claim we asked them to take over finished after giving all info on the hospital.

Went to see doc was with him 1 min he gave us 1 antibiotic and 2 paracetamol and a prescription. I went to reception, I thought she said €119 meaning we will get €31 back no she wanted an extra €190 euro €340 for 1 min consultation and 3 tablets. I said I asked you to let me know she went well you went in too quick, she told us too to go in. We told her the insurance said they will take over payment they had sent us the certificate we called them again she was treating us like we didn’t want to pay I just prefer to be explained it properly they would not contact insurance or wait for it she said everyone from your country pays then claims back, the underwriters for the insurance don’t take over payments, are you joking if someone comes in and has €1000’s euros claim who can pay that upfront, I said it’s not a issue paying but I’d rather insurance paid as that’s what they said they would do on phone call, she said you have to pay or lawyers will come wow. Her male colleague I found so abrupt and rude and I called him on it he would nt even look at me. I just paid it and left absolutely have no customer care.

Ended up going to Beniloix Dental near Levante Beach the next day it was a tooth infection phenomenal service and help. Infection needed to go before taking out as they said sometimes anestiaia wouldn’t work plus she was in the first trimester of pregnancy they prefer to do in second trimester.
Consultation was €30 immediately they cleaned it out and put temporary filling €50. Explained everything and costs and really cared. Was told by number of people when we shared experience with people they said no one recommends the hospital one even said, saying hello in there costs you, they just bothered about your money. Absolutely never again hopefully this review saves someone from the stress we experienced.

Great Hospital - no waiting - attentive medical staff.

I have had to use this hospital a number of times for emergency care and found the staff to be amazing and the service incredible.
No Wait in A&E - seen immediately on several occasions. When waiting, never more than 40 mins.
Comfortable private room.
Once they have you registered, Insurance handled efficiently, now not even mentioned anymore, Just automatically sorted, billed and authorized.
Great App - easy to use and available in English.
They found a 10.7 mm kidney stone (a week after I first attended the doctor) the NHS could not find it after a 6 month wait. Would not go anywhere else now!

Careless care by one of the surgeons at the at imed lavante hospital Benidorm

My husband badly broke his leg on 29th April, I have put the 29th April as this is the date of my husband's accident, but the treatment under the surgeon at the imed lavante hospital lasted 2 months. My husband underwent 2 operations at the lavante hospital in Benidorm. He was given a 'good to fly' document by the surgeon after 2 months. When we returned from Spain a week ago last Saturday, we made an appointment at the fracture clinic at the qmc in Nottingham. We were shocked to be told by the consultant in the UK, that if he had performed the surgery my husband had in Spain, he would have been be sacked. My husband is now today, undergoing surgery to remove a plate put in his leg by the surgeon in Spain, cut away the infection he has had for 3/4 weeks, have plastic surgery to fill the hole left by the infection (the Spanish surgeon only called it an infection 2 weeks ago) and have a cage put round his ankle and foot, as the bones in this area have not started to heal. We don't know how long his recovery will be. Do not go to this hospital.
