As a new business owner, I will never use TurboTax again. It was easy but then because I filed an NEC and had write offs, I was locked into their premium account... WITHOUT MY CONSENT. I either have... See more

I have used turbo tax for 30 years
I have used turbo tax for 30 years. I come from a large family and do all my siblings, nieces and nephews. I file about 35 returns. A lot of them are simple w-2 only. This will be the last year I will use this software. The disk gives you 25 e-files as long as you own 5 computers. I was recommended by turbo tax to buy a new disk since I used my 25 e-files. I did that and while on the phone with turbo tax they instructed me to install on the computer I already e-filed on. You cannot do that since it will not let you e-file even though you paid for a second disk. They will not refund money to me because I did not buy through them. I did not buy through them because they were $30.00 more expensive. Three times I called in, 2 times they told me to install on the same computer. Higher level support completely unsympathetic and said "you should have checked the website we disclosed it there". After 30 years I did not make it a habit to review their website!!! I will look for a new ERP software also. They do not want to support customer's who are not at a Pro level but are above a 5 e-file level. They also do not care that they have repeat customer's that are in a bind this year because of their over the top "everyone is ripping us off" security. We are stuck with their software for 2019 not 2020 and after.
I've used turbotax Canada for years but…
I've used turbotax Canada for years but have found it decreasingly satisfying recently. Last year's return was reassessed by the CRA for more $. This year's version kept kicking me off--a sign their service is overloaded--and when it did, logging in again I found that the data I had most recently entered was not saved! That was enough to send me elsewhere.
Not cool
Not cool. They con you into wasting a lot of time then slap you with a heavy fee after lying it's free. Just because i sold a few stocks I'm having to pay $130 for premier. Looking for alternatives, this is bs. Wasted almost 2 hrs... At least let me know ahead. Extra $40 just to transfer directly to an account. Joke.
I got Turbotax and did my return but it…
I got Turbotax and did my return but it kept saying that several forms were not ready. This meant I could not file my taxes. They then informed me by mid-March that the forms were ready. They told me to update, which I did. The forms did NOT download and I attempted to do it as they instructed many times over several days. I finally had to do my taxes myself. I WASTED all the money I spent on Turbotax. Do not buy this software!
You guys stink
You guys stink. Charge way too much for filing and weren’t able to finish my return this year so I went with H&R Block. You’re not free and mess up my returns
Very poor this year.
Very poor this year.
1. Imported 1099 DIV. It doubled it
2. Imported 1099 B. Numbers do not match the print out.
3. Phone radio button to talk non funtional.
4. No delete all when the mistake on the 1099 B was found
They were honest and explained…
They were honest and explained everything in detail. I reccomend this company to anyone.
False Advertisement
I scored Turbotax an Undeserved score of ‘1’ for false advertising. I was charged $175, a far cry from “FREE, FREE, FREE.” My new slogan is “LIES, LIES, LIES!!!” Soooo disappointed!!!
Just con men operation
I just finished my tax return.
It was very simple, straight forward,
standard deduction income tax return.
This was my first time I did it myself because
this is usually my busiest time of the year, so I used to pay to have it done.
So, this time I had to find time to do it and ended up paying the same amount as if my income tax preparer did it for me.
With every step Turbotax demanded more money.
At the end, I asked for a receipt, printed it.
It was $110.00
Then I received an email notification that they actually took
$119.76.
When I look at the receipt more closely,
I noticed it says $110.00 and with very small, hardly visible "plus taxes"
I don't know if I can trust these people to do my taxes again.
I would call them con men operation
i started filing my taxes and turbotax…
i started filing my taxes and turbotax offered me 2 free choices but at the ended in charge me for fed and state $230, they robbed me
I am a student
I am a student. I have used Free TT for the past 3 years and each year I had a Form 1098-T for college expenses. No problem. This year Free TT stopped me cold far into the return after I had completed the Education Expenses, and said I could not continue due to the inclusion of schedules/forms and to upgrade to Deluxe to continue. There is nothing different about my 2019 return from my prior years. This is BS. I will never use TT again. Their greed is amazing.
good luck with customer support
i efiled fed and state on 2/4. IRS Fed accepted. State rejected due to state not being ready. They said to resubmit after 2/7. I did not change anything on my return so I didn't want to resubmit my fed return. I could not figure out how to efile state without efiling the federal too so I went to turbo tax help. There were 2300+ online related discussions. After trolling through the first 50 I decided to try and get a real turbotax person. A TOTALLY FRUSTRATING EXPERIENCE. No fricking luck. Nice touch though with the automated attendant typing. After an hour of trying, I just printed out my state tax return and mailed it. Lost $20 for state efile fees. And killed a few trees printing the mess out.
ABSURD OVERCHARGE!!!
Agreed to purchase upgrade on line from free to $40. version.
because I worked in 2 states. They ended up charging $40 for Federal, and $40. for each state. $120.00 for a SIMPLE return!
I'm done with this outfit!!!!
False Advertising!!
TurboTax is a rip off and a lie! Advertises that doing your basic taxes are free, but actually end up charging you $80 for absolutely nothing! Got all the way through my taxes and elected the free version, also declined all upgrades but still wanted to charge me $40 to file. I had already made it to the end so decided whatever I’ll pay the $40. Elected to have the $40 taken out of my refund check and wanted to charge another $40! So $80 for me inputting all my information. I refused to pay $80 and decided to go on H&R Block instead that advertises to file for free and actually means FREE! Will NEVER use TurboTax again.
Misleading advertising
Misleading advertising - What they advertise is not what you pay. advertise $40 for federal and then just an asterisk* that says (state is additional). Yeah.... State is also $40. AND, then you have to pay another $40 just to submit your taxes. All and all, it's $120 to file your taxes with TurboTax which is outrageous for an online tax service with a website that (although has a pretty layout and some nice features) also has some spelling and grammar mistakes (very reassuring) and is at time confusing and unclear.... For $120 I can get in-person tax advice and preparation... Actually less for that matter... Last time I am using TurboTax. Not worth it.
The software itself is good and is…
The software itself is good and is helpful guiding you through the process of filing your taxes. The misleading portion is where they claim filing is free. It isn't free. Not for filing the state portion. So you pay for the software and you pay for filing your state taxes.
Misleading advertising.
Terrible
Terrible. I was charged $80 when it was supposed to be "free". I Called customer service and was talking to a lady for an hour, and she said they would refund me the money but the supervisor had to do it and she'd add notes to my account. I was transferred to a supervisor and he told me "terms and conditions say this is the best service and you have tried others and we cannot issue you a refund" So, I paid $80. I will be talking to the bank and the IRS about this. COMPLETE SCAM! If I do not get my taxes direct deposited into my account, that will be a whole other issue.
TurboTax free edition users beware, they like to rip people off.
I've had several bad experiences with several of the major tax filing services. I hate that these companies lobby congress to prevent the IRS from allowing free tax filing, instead the companies offer "free tax filing" to those who are lower income but there's a ton of catches to this. I've used TurboTax free file a handful of times, it's quick, easy and helps me find deductions. Everything was great with TurboTax for me up until last year (this review is a bit overdue but better late than never). I went to file my tax return with the TurboTax free edition because I thought it would be free, well my bank returned the direct deposit for my actual tax return and Intuit mailed me a check but they took $100 from it, I was only owed $400 by the IRS but come on intuit why do you need to take $100 from my already low tax return. Thanks for the "free" tax filing software. I definitely will not be using your service again.
Cost me thousands of dollars
Cost me thousands of dollars - program automatically filed in wrong state ( work state vs home state) and resulted in late fees to home state, took over a year to get it straightened out after paying a CPA hundreds of dollars to straighten out. Complained to Vanguard Personal Advisor Services where I downloaded tax software. Stay away from this program. In the end, what was supposed to save lots of money ended up with loss of thousands and over a year of headaches. Painful lesson, I learned just to bite the bullet and pay CPA for tax prep.
Had a great experience
Had a great experience, was able to import data from another tool that I used.
