Vale for money ease of use railpass made our japan holiday a memorable one

The Japan Rail pass is certainly value for money and a great way to travel in and around the JR network in Japan. There are a couple of things I would recommend that could make this an even better system. 1. The pass comes as a large folded laminated document which does not fit easily into the modern travellers pocket. Why couldn't the pass be condensed into a travel card similar to a Suica card. 2. Each time you travel you need to access the train station attendant to have your card checked for entry/exit to the station. It would be much simpler if the card was a Suica style card that you accessed the automatic gates like all other commuters & tap the card for entry/exit. My thoughts for an improved travel experience.

There were so many sites that offer the rail pass but we chose to go with this one and we're happy. It was quite easy to fill out online and it arrived within a week. Came with instructions on where to exchange the pass to obtain the real rail pass which was an easy process aswel. You can use the rail pass on any line except the Nozomi and mizuho, but you can still get to where you need to go on the other lines. You can also use the rail pass on the Miyajima ferry which is so convienient. Highly reccomend

Pass tickets arrived in the mail quickly (within 10 days, to Australia) and was easy to exchange into the actual rail pass at the airport. I think the whole process at the airport might have been like half an hour for both husband and I.
We used the pass to reserve tickets for the long train rides rather than going unreserved. Each time it was easy and pretty fast.
I think the only thing I could say was a slight negative, was some of the Shinkansen were laid out with three seats on one side, two on the other. So as we reserved tickets we requested to book seats on the 2 side. If available.
It seems even using pictures and translate, this was often a confusing request to the staff.
The only reason we requested tickets on the 2 side is my husband and I are both large (not fat, just both over 6ft) and when there was the 3 and 2 seat layout the seats are about the same as a small economy airline.

I travelled with my elderly parents in rhe green cars and we all enjoyed the comfort, space and service. Well done to Japan Rail on getting services back up and running after the typhoon. We were on holiday in Japan 24 October to the 8 November.

Very easy to use once redeemed the voucher for the JR Pass.
It was convenient using the trains especially bullet train and you can book in and reserve seats prior.
Would use again, worth the money!

Very easy to use service, I found getting around Japan and inner-city Tokyo accessible and comfortable.

Staff at Japan rail offices were very helpful in arranging reservations.
We were concerned about baggage storage on the trains but this proved not to be an issue. There is space behind the last seats in each carriage on the major trains and if for some reason this is not available, there is plenty of room in the leg space as the seating space is very generous. There is lots of overhead storage room for luggage but his is not suitable for heavier bags, especially if you are short and need to lift heavy bags up to that space.
The pass was well accepted everywhere we went and we never had any queries about our use of the pass.

Easy to use. Very good value. Travel by train in Japan using a rail pass is so easy.

the pass was great. we could use on some local railways and local buses as well as the shinkansen and the ferry to Miajima. Definitely good value if you intend to go on the train more than once

This makes travel in Japan fantastically easy. The voucher is exchanged for a pass in just a few minutes, and then it's simply a case of showing it at the ticket barrier to get free travel on all but a few bullet trains. Seats can also be reserved free of charge. A wonderful way to enjoy cheap and hassle free rail travel in Japan.
