- Shower cubicles broken.
- Showers hanging off the wall.
- Mould on ceiling in shower area.
- Able bodied people parking in disabled bays and staff do nothing about it.
- No staff presence on the gym floor. They all sit in their office until needed.
- Members happy to leave dumbells wherever knowing there's no staff presence to tell them to re-rack them.
- Weight machines can take weeks for repair.
- Lack of free benches that can be moved around the gym (just 1).
- Rowing machines always running out of battery for the display (proves they are not checked daily).

Facility and times did not meet my requirement as the changing rooms were shut when I was going to go.

The gym is stupid busy with most the essential gym equipment missing. The sauna and showers are not accessible early morning for those who want to avoid the rush hours. Not pleased with the facility at all.

Excellent gym with plenty of equipment and a variety of classes.
They have something for everyone whether you are into heavy weight lifting or treadmill runner.
Their changing facilities are nice as well.

Very good/Excellent gym
My top 4 reasons for choosing JD derby;
-Sauna
-Boxing area
-Price/value
-No contract
If any one of these changed I would have to consider my options, especially the no contract option is very valuable for people like me who live elsewhere and come and go from Derby.
Recommendations for an even better experience;
- The boxing bags are a huge draw, a longer kicking bag(s) would be a great addition.
- The cold shower is also a great benefit, only having one can be a source of despair or conflict if busy.
- A common and unavoidable Criticism of not only JD derby but all gyms is the clientele itself, particularly those with no social etiquette and believe they are in their own house. This is at its most apparent in the changing room. Examples include, leaving plastic bottles in sauna, drying towel over sauna, playing own music, leaving on and damaging hair dryers etc. These behaviours are hard to police… one suggestion I have is from a previous gym. A dedicated respected team member had a regular presence in the changing room cleaning and generally making sure standards were kept. Over time good behaviours became normal.
-Music- The music ranges from London gangster rap to low grade dance music remixes. The former has no place in a gym as it neither inspires a better workout or a pleasant listening experience. I suggest a mix of uplifting funky tunes of various genres. I would like to go further and suggest we celebrate local music and flavour. Perhaps play local Dj mixtapes and advertise which artist is ‘playing now’.
If there is desire the options to maximise the energy of music are plentiful. Putting some effort into making JD Derby a source of inspiration for and about DERBY could reap reward for the gym and for the city.
Keep up the good work

Easy access and great range of equipment that make the space not feel too busy during peak hours.
Staff and customers could do more to tidy weights/equipment after use.
Would be good if the app was developed more to track your activity and tell u how many people are at the gym at all times.

Great gym equipment plenty of variety.
The wet room does not feel adequate for the volumes of people attending and should be addressed

The gym in Derby is great. It’s good value for money compared to lots of other gyms. It has some good equipment and it is opened 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

No induction on how to use the equipment,unable to hear the class instructions clearly.showers not on for long enough having to keep pushing button in after 5 seconds no hooks on doors to hang towels etc

I have multi-access but this strictly regarding the Derby Gym. The music in the gym is horrendous, it’s not up-beat or something in the charts, it’s similar what I would expect to listen to in a boxing gym from the 1980s. A lot of the equipment in the gym is worn out also, which wouldn’t be so bad as wear and tear is expected, however due to the consistent high number of people in the gym, there’s a long time waiting between sets. Which brings me to my next point… it’s ridiculously busy. Never known for a gym to not have enough cardio machines - is there not a limit on how many people can go at once? Maybe you could include a peak-time charge like if you come between 5pm and 7pm Monday - Thursday, then you pay on the door to get in like an extra £2. Talking of limited cardio machines, why on earth is there only two Smith machines? Some people will use them for over 30 minutes, the people aren’t your fault but you could provide more machines right? Only other thing really is the cleanliness of the changing rooms, in-particularly the floor.

The gym is large and fully equipped, however some machines have seen better day sand the parking is a mare
