Gym was fine. I used to train at the Huddersfield JD all of the time. What I will say is that a few of the machines have fallen into disarray, and there was a lot more random litter in the dumbbell... See more

Overcrowded, loud, anxiety inducing, dirty, not enough variety in classes, time the classes run doesn’t work for me either.

one of the dirtiest gyms I’ve ever been to. The place looks messy, chaotic, and badly maintained, with no real effort to keep it clean. It feels unhygienic and unpleasant to train in.
Staff attitude is shocking, rude, aggressive, and unprofessional. Instead of being helpful, the tone feels confrontational.
To make it worse, the music is ridiculously loud and absolute shite. It’s more like torture than motivation and completely ruins the atmosphere.
Would not recommend.

Besides what other reviews I’ve read, the gym is fully equipped. Toilets are clean and it has also sauna. It’s full of classes included in the price.
However I haven’t been in peak hours but as I know every single gym you go (no matter which country or space) is busy from 17:30pm so it’s expected to be waiting machines.
Overall I think it is very good. Not fancy brands but it is what a commercial gyms work with and you can have a good workout .

Free parking good fees, easy access, everything in hand space, equipment amount, changing room, sauna... it worked everything well

It’s a great gym, well equipped, sauna is lovely. Only downside is side is the availability of staffing, and limited induction sessions as because it is a big gym it is hard to find everything you’re looking for and the different spaces.

i loved the changing rooms and the actual gym was very nice and spaced out and all the equipment was clean once i understood where everything was but i didn’t like how there was no sort of induction for new members to know where everything is and there was no foam cover for the weight bars so that was a bit disappointing

Joining was really easy and no joining fee. The staff are really friendly and even parking is free which is a real plus.
Since I left 2 yrs ago (due to moving away from Hudds), the equipment has been upgraded and there’s quite a bit of equipment now.
Would be good if the gym had more tv screens!

I have autism and struggle in gyms and public spaces but jd isn’t too overwhelming and I like all the space so no one has to touch it’s nice but water is expensive

Reply from JD Gyms - Huddersfield
The gym being extremely overcrowded with too little equipment for the number of people. It’s the busiest gym I’ve ever seen, and it’s very hard to complete a workout.
The daily check-in is also frustrating — scanning a QR code and entering my car registration every single day is inconvenient and time-wasting.
Please review these issues, as they are affecting my experience and the value of my membership.

The gym itself is great and the cleaning team do an excellent job, but the lack of proper Olympic lifting equipment is a real let-down. There are no Olympic lifting bars, no 15kg female bars, and nothing that genuinely supports people who train outside of a pure bodybuilding style. It’s incredibly frustrating to be passionate about a specific type of training and not be able to actually do it because the kit simply isn’t there.
What makes it even more annoying is that other JD Gyms have far better variety and more up-to-date equipment. This location feels like it’s been left behind, and unless you’re strictly into bodybuilding, it’s difficult to get a complete session in. Considering the size of the gym and the brand behind it, you’d expect a much more balanced and modern setup.

I absolutely love training here and come in every single day. The space has huge potential, a great atmosphere and it could be one of the best gyms in the area. But it really needs modernising to keep up with how people train now.
More and more members are moving towards functional and hybrid training, yet the current set up makes it really hard for people to work towards those goals. The functional rig feels prehistoric, there are no 15kg women’s Olympic barbells, and most of the 20kg bars aren’t suitable for Olympic lifting because the bearings are gone and the knurling is so rough it rips your neck and collarbone.
Across other JD Gyms I’ve trained in there is Eleiko and more up to date kit. It is confusing why Huddersfield seems to miss out and is more geared towards bodybuilding only.
The SkiErgs also constantly run system checks when you hop on and the ergs in general really need regular servicing and oiling.
This gym has amazing potential and a great community. It just needs modernising. Please consider updating the functional area, kit variety and especially adding 15kg women’s Olympic barbells so people can actually train properly and safely.

I am enjoying using the gym, I will be booking an induction as I am very unsure around using the weight machines, the downside of this is I find leaving the gym very intimidating especially on an evening as on occasions there have been groups of lads hanging round outside been a little intimidating, also I have noticed groups of lads crowding round machines, not using them but chatting and making it difficult to use that machine, staff on duty dont seem to notice them, so it means I avoid using that item

All staff very caring and helpful
When I joined helped me to join and explained clearly

Reply from JD Gyms - Huddersfield
Welcoming for a nervous newbie! Everyone made an effort to make me feel comfortable and found the time to show me around and how equipment worked. Been several times and found this to be the same, not just on initial joining!

Gutted about this gym, will only see the month through.
Firstly, equipment is in really poor quality with machine flow around the gym being all over the show. Nevermind having to wait for machines for 20/30 minutes at a time, whilst groups of lads congregate around them and use them as benches to socialise.
In addition it’s not particularly clean on the gym floor neither the changing rooms/ toilets.
Lastly, to top it off last night I saw a woman completely exposed walking around the changing rooms to the sauna to then lie in their naked drying her clothes on every bench. I told staff who told her the saunas is closed, but advised me this happens often. Left me distressed.
Consequently, I won’t be renewing after my month membership. It’s in need of entire refurb and better staffing/ policing of equptment/ women’s only section rather than a spin room that sits empty majority of week.

Been visiting jd gym for a few years and since Gomez has taken over the gym has changed massively. As I have hidden disabilities, Gomez took the time to talk to me and see how he could help in anyway. This means more than you could possibly know. The gym itself is a typical gym and unfortunately some of the members treat it horribly however Gomez does the best he can and is constantly running around trying to resolve these issues.

The atmosphere In the gym is good, friendly people. However since it’s my first time bk in 3 years I can see it’s not been given much love. Broken machines, levers missing off cable machines. It could really do with some more attachments for the cable machines too these are very limited when there is so much variety out there. Really just needs a good going over, equipment fixing, liking. Some machines there is unnecessary resistance likely due to not being maintained. This was once a top gym and couldn’t fault it at all, now it’s missing some major tlc.
