I have been a member at JD gym since 2016 and I have been lucky to see the gym evolve into its current new modern shape.
I enjoy coming to the gym because it’s a place where I find my strength both physically and mentally, being able to do all that at my local gym is genuinely amazing, this allows me to deal with whatever life throws at me.
The gym is well equipped and well staffed. The equipment is always in full working order. It’s clean.
With the gym now being open 24/7 I feel that there are no peak times and whenever I come in I can get a good workout in.
There is a sauna, clean changing rooms and enough lockers.
If you are considering then join the JD family, it’s a no brainer.

Alright however keys and coat was locked in the locker room, called and was told there was nothing they could do for me - staff member on the phone was actually quite rude. So had to walk home in the rain with no coat, thought i was going to die. One member of staff did message me checking if I got home alright, which was nice but honestly as a woman at night walking through Rochdale town center under the rain with no coat.. it could have been quite dangerous. You should probably have staff there also past 9 just to make sure people are safe.
Gym could do with some blue roll and sanitizing spray being placed around the gym, it would help to wipe things down before and after use.

I visited the rochdale gym and it is great. A lot of equipments in the lady part. I am visiting the middleton gym too but it us not so great. It could be bigger and should have more equipment like the rochdale one. Has only 2 treatmills which are always in use. There is nothing for the upper body.

Have been to JD gym twice this week having not been to a gym for about 25 years. Loving it. I’m taking things really gently, as I just want to loose some weight and tone up a little. Doing lots of stretching exercises to improve my mobility and treadmill walking to get the old knees moving again.
In a few weeks would like to try some of the palates/yoga classes too. I’m amazed at all the options of equipment and classes available. Really enjoying it. Hoping to keep it up for regular long term health benefits.

My experience was very good indeed since it’s my 1st time going here I expected this gym to be small but in fact it wasn’t which made it better for me to settle in

This gym is easily one of the best-equipped gyms in the Rochdale area, with a spacious layout, decent cardio machines, and a robust selection of weightlifting gear that caters to all levels. However, three major issues prevent it from being exceptional.
Prison-Style Entry
First, the entrance with its clunky turnstiles feels more like stepping into a high-security prison than a welcoming space for health and wellness, It's insulting and off-putting that sets the wrong tone. A friendlier access system would set a much better tone.
“24-Hour” in Name Only
After 10 p.m., the gym offers just one accessible toilet/disabled-use shower for the entire membership. There are no main showers, main lockers, or sauna access until the early morning, and every minute in that single cubicle feels like you’re holding up a queue. For a facility advertised as 24-hour, this is unacceptable.
Poor Locker Placement
The outdoor lockers are in a ridiculously awkward spot: right beside the main walkway and directly behind the treadmills. Members collecting their gear, stepping off the treadmills, and entering or leaving the gym all converge in the same narrow corridor, it's chaos. Who thought this was a good idea? The outside lockers need a dedicated, separate area away from foot traffic and equipment
Since I can only train late, when im in the UK/Manchester area I train at Jetts 24-Hour on Oxford Road in Manchester city centre, where the facilities stay open and spotless around the clock.
Open all amenities 24/7, swap the prison-style turnstiles for a friendlier entry, and move the lockers out of the main walkway.

JD Gyms has a solid range of equipment and plenty of variety, so from a workout perspective, it ticks most of the boxes. But there are quite a few downsides that make the overall experience frustrating.
First off, the lack of sanitising wipes is pretty disappointing. With so many people using the same machines, wiping them down with just a towel isn’t hygienic enough. Proper cleaning wipes should really be standard by now.
The app is also really limited – you can’t even book into classes through it, which is wild. You have to log in on the web version just to book a class. Plus, you can’t make changes to your membership or manage your account through the app either – you have to go through customer service, and the wait times are insanely long. It’s near impossible to sort anything out quickly.
Also, avoid going anytime past 8:30am on weekdays (and even Saturdays) unless you enjoy standing around waiting for machines. It gets absolutely packed. Sundays are the only exception – much quieter and easier to navigate.
One last thing – the gym can get really smelly and stuffy. There’s no noticeable air circulation or freshener, which makes the environment feel pretty stale, especially during busy periods.
In short, it’s got the basics, but the hygiene, customer service, app functionality, and overall atmosphere need serious improvement.

Avoid evening at all cost changing rooms are dirty they all need ripping out not well managed to many kids using it and ruining the equipment the smell as well coming from the showers .
Don’t want to sound bad but people who are coming in and using the showers as toilets and have no gym etiquette are not from this country
Also they keep putting prices up and not telling you
A massive tip
Go at 6am upto 10am in the morning well maintain staff are great .

My go to gym in Rochdale. It has everything you need and open 24/7!

Gym seems great so far. Only issues that I have is that the free weights are all over the place and many leave them on the floor - not the gyms fault but maybe having someone there to remind people to put them back (and in the right place) would help.

I have just started at JD Rochdale, and the staff are lovely. Charlotte did my induction and was very helpful, answering all my questions and helping me adjust to the different gym equipment. I particularly like the ladies' gym and the sauna!

I think this company is doing well, Gym is very good, their are plenty of diffrent machines but could do better of improving in the back machines, can't get the full strech in the back when training and parking is a pain, probably due to being in the town centre. Overall, the gym is very good. Could do with fresh protien bar etc... loving it.
