Great experience at JD Gyms Bitterne. The equipment is high quality and the staff are friendly and helpful.

However, the air-con blows very cold air directly onto you in most areas, which is uncomfortable and could affect your health during workouts!!!

Hope this is ok to post here so many members love the Monday morning combo by Marta T would be so great to have this also on Wednesday and Friday as she is now running body pump at 9:30 double bubble will be great to feel the benefit of two back to back :)

Zumba with Marta is an incredible experience. She brings so much positive energy to every class. Monday evenings are perfect for recharging your batteries for the week, while Friday sessions help you shake off all the stress. Zumba with Marta at JD Gyms Bitterne in Southampton is simply great.

Pete’s Tuesday bodytone classes are brilliant, makes you feel so comfortable while also being challenged!

I recommend jd bitterne as have great equipment & the staff and Manager are wonderful.

Magdalena always very polite and helpful, as are all staff. Love the varity of equipment and the gym in general

Great gym, staff is super friendly and helpful. Gym etiquette is present. Can get really busy quite often.

I have been going to JD gym in bitterne for around 3 months and it’s by far the best gym in Southampton.

The staff are always helpful and friendly and equipment is frequently cleaned

I love the great air con in the gym especially when I am sweating like crazy.
The car park is free which is great sometimes you have to wait for a few minutes but that’s no bother to me.

Zumba with Marta,amazing class, lots of laughs, fun and awesome moves. Best way to spend a Monday evening

Around 30 classes per week on timetable!

Brilliant and knowledgeable staff. You cannot be in better place.

They removed my account the day after I cancelled my direct debit even though I still have 3 weeks fully paid. The confirmation email even says that my membership would remain in force until the day before the next payment was due.

The gym and changing area is always lovely & clean. The staff are always around to pick up equipment, sanitise areas, polish mirrors etc. The instructors are very friendly and welcoming.

This is a budget gym that is well kitted out and spacious.

However the following items could be addressed to make this a 5 star review.

- Only two changing rooms after hours, there is sometimes a queue - it would be good to have 24 hour changing rooms (on Saturday they close at 8pm!). They say the sauna is the reason they have to close them, however you could just close the Sauna and keep the changing rooms open.
- JD gym classes have drastically reduced since this branch opened, more class availability would be more attractive, there is an excellent available studio.
- No cleaning spray provided unlike other gyms, spillages cannot be easily cleaned up.
- Although car park is free, it gets very full and it is difficult to park. Local car parks in Bitterne now charge hourly, and are no longer free meaning that a lot of non-gym customers park there now - I would be driving around for a while until a space appears.
- There is no system to check that they are JD gym customers, which would hugely help the situation.

Gym is what you'd expect, but trying to cancel is made very difficult and they will charge you a month after you want to quit, feel scammed of a months membership to a gym I can't go to

Been a member since they opened, well equipped gym but cleanliness standards have gone severely down hill, layers of dust on the machines and am confident that I’ve spotted mould spores starting to grow in the dust/dirt/grime on the back of one of them. They superficially clean, but not properly. You can literally write your name in the dust.

Shame really as the first few weeks they had staff cleaning machines regularly - now I don’t see anybody doing it. Have mentioned it to staff, they shrug it off and nothing changes. I’ve actually seen the same sweat marks on one of the machine seat pads for over two weeks. Empty bottles/cans of drinks in the same spot on the floor 3 days later!

Parking is also an issue. I’ve seen people park with kids and walk into town to do shopping. I’ve now given up going at certain times of day as you simply can’t find a space.

Avoid this gym at all costs.
The parking is an absolute joke, people use the gym car park for shopping and to use other gyms in the area, and nothing ever gets done about this. Once you’re eventually able to park and enter the doors to the gym, both lifts are ALWAYS out of use. The gym has been open for over 18 months now, and not once in 18 months have both lifts been working at the same time. A massive middle finger to all disabled people.
Once you get in the gym you’re walking in to a mine field of tripods. I understand recording is allowed, but there’s ways to go about it. Idiots just place their tripods in the middle of walkways and always record other members against their will. And when members of staff and management are some of the worst for it, it just shows nothing will change and your privacy doesn’t matter to them.
They haven’t got one single bit of new equipment in since they opened when they have enough room to. Majority of the machines are not up to standard and need to be replaced with far ‘better’ machines.
Whilst there are a lot of nice members, there’s also a lot of clowns. Too many members walk around thinking they’re big and tough, they need a reminder they’re in Southampton, England and not the Bronx.
I’ve read the 1* reviews and the response from JD is just the same copy and paste generic response. They don’t care and nothing will ever change

This could be the most toxic gym ever created. Extremely busy with tripods scattered all over the place in walkways etc. Machines are full of people scrolling instagram or videoing themselves taking pins in and out of them. No one is exercising or working out they are just recording themselves to use filters later on their social media accounts. It’s more of a nightclub than a gym so if you want a gym to workout in I highly recommend you steer clear. When I complained to a staff member about someone recording themselves a mile back with me in the frame they rolled their eyes at me. It’s a long drawn out process to cancel too as you have to submit a form on their website which they have to approve. I’d very much stay away unless you’re a 20 something (or sadly older) person who likes to set up their tripod in the middle of the floor and pretend they’re working out. Music is horrendous too, I think they call it that drill or something where it’s glorifying violence or some gangster activity. TOXIC!
