Great experience at JD Gyms Bitterne. The equipment is high quality and the staff are friendly and helpful. However, the air-con blows very cold air directly onto you in most areas, which is uncomf... See more

Ok gym but the service is horrendous. Criminal damage was caused to my vehicle at the gym on two seperate occasions, whilst parked in line of their CCTV. Despite providing a crime reference number as requested, the operations team ‘denied my request’ for CCTV footage. If you’re going to advertise that the gym provides CCTV for security purposes, as a paying member the gym should want to help their members in this scenario - not partake in enabling crime.
11/7/25 - In response to their reply, I already have. The Southampton team informed me that JD Gyms Operations Team denied the CCTV request.

First I'll start with the positives. I love the size and the amount of equipment. the reason I'm only giving a 3 is because of 2 massive bug bears. 1st the car park isn't monitored so its always full of ppl parking and going shopping. My other more pressing issue is I regularly come to the gym after 10pm and the changing rooms are shut which also means the toilet is shut and everyone has to share to 1 accessible toilet which is just wrong. Other day someone was in there for over half an hour and I was absolutely desperate for a wee. Please can you rethink your policy with the the changing rooms because sharing one toilet is not on

I have been a member of this gym since it opened and I loved it, I would recommend it to everyone. However the last 2 months have been appalling. Most of the machines are broken in some form -specifically the cable machines.
Now I understand that this will happen, however the same machines have been broken for over a month. 4 days ago I was on a cable machine which had the wire covering torn off and the wire showing through which was beginning to unravel, and the carabena (however you spell it) was broken and did not lock into place. I took a photo and showed a member of staff who seemed extremely concerned yet nothing has been done to close the machine off or fix it.
This is one of many issues which are being ignored and now it is not a case of hygiene like other reviews but a concern of safety.
Very dissapointed that staff are aware of these issues but don't seem to care. I'm sure it will only change only when ambulances have to be called and that in itself is a dissapointment and a travesty.
Do better, it's our safety you're risking to save money on equipment we're paying to use.

Jd gym in bitterne is an amazing gym with some excellent equipment.
staff are super friendly and helpful, the new young manger is very hot on keeping the gym clean and making sure the gym is run smoothly.
keep up the good work.
I do not recommend this gym, toxic people in the service

Well equipped, clean and modern gym, very popular, so peak times are best avoided. Only gripe is that there is only 1 pair of 28, 30, 32 and 34 dumbbells each which makes it really hard to do progressions when someone else is using the only pair you need. Oh, and another pair of movable dipping bars would be nice. Otherwise a great gym

Lockers shut at 10pm
No day passes for friends
Cancelling contract requires digging through the website and filling out a form - they have to make it difficult for you to cancel so you can keep paying them even if you don't want to. - I guess you can just cancel the direct debit instead, but why not have an clear option in the app?
Good space good equipment but somehow manages to lack certain machines that you can find in much smaller gyms.
Best gym in the area by a country mile! Huge amount of equipment, friendly environment and a great hot sauna and cold shower afterwards.
Great gym, great facilities and great price.!
Staff don’t worry about the rules people train in socks , sliders , crocs and workwear! And they play random gangster rap music which disrupts my workouts when they come on why should I have to pay or wear headphones never had to in the last 35 years in other gyms

Member at Southampton since day1. Gone down hill and when you make a complaint the staff respond in a patronising manner while at the same time making it abundantly clear they haven’t read your email in the first place.
Seems overrun with self obsessed instagram wannabes now who like nothing better than staring at themselves in the mirrors.
You will find they reserve power racks at busy times by leaving various pieces of personal equipment, then when they turn up sometimes 15-20 minutes later and you ask them you get the reason”I like the lighting better here, so I had no choice”.

Southampton bitterne gym is okey but there is always the same problem with the sauna every day... Around the middle of the day the sauna is turned off and people waste their time, they come to use the sauna because they pay for it but they can't because the temperature is not high enough. Please do something about it if you don't want to lose members. People pay for it.

I sign in long before then open gym in Southampton because was only £5 first month. The worst my decision. New gym oficcial open 11.06.2024. I never used this gym because live now in different city so 07.07.2024 I tried canclel membership before next month start but I have to pay now £21.99 for another month because they send me email about give them 30 days notice so I should give the notice before gym start existing. They are use unfair practice, thieves.

07/20/24 19:30 Southampton (Bitterne) JD gym an employee entered the changing room and turned off the sauna , and started to clean the shower and make noise with a vacuum cleaner, then opened the door to the sauna and told that they were closing at 20:00, you need to hurry up.
When I entered the sauna I placed a full bottle of water right next to the door, but when I left sauna I didn’t find it there. When I asked him where my bottle, he replied that the second worker had thrown it into the bin while cleaning.
Dear JD, please explain to me if it is written in your contract that the sauna and shower closes at 20:00, why do your workers start turning everything off at 19:30 and start cleaning, they don’t even let members use the shower, the wires from the vacuum cleaner on the floor prevent me from walking, what about safety precautions if the wire is damaged somewhere and it lies in a puddle of water where people take a shower and plugged in socket.
This is the disregardful behavior of workers and no respect for all of us clients.

Attempted to get into the gym using the QR code, light went green but door wouldn’t open. Tried multiple times again and still wouldn’t let me in. Tried to push the button four times to get staff assistance and nobody came, waited for 20 minutes - this is really bad because what if I was a disabled person trying to access the gym? Tried phoning them four times but no answer. Sort of ruined my experience, don’t feel like going again if it’s going to be this stressful
JD Gym, Bitterne, Southampton. Well designed, equipped, clean, safe (app to enter/exit works well), free parking (little difficult to park at peak times), helpful staff, good value for money. It would benefit from a member of staff being on patrol to advise customers how to use equipment correctly, breathe properly while doing so and not to sit texting, chatting and posing whilst using equipment but all round an excellent, affordable gym.
