Excellent customer service going through detailed explanation of two mattresses I was considering. I bought the Pocket Latex 1500 king size. The delivery lads were fantastic, very polite and courteous... See more

This is the second time that we have bought a mattress from John Ryan. As before, we are very happy with the new mattress (Artisan Tailored Pocket 2000) - super comfortable and obviously well made. John Ryan really take a pride in everything they do and what they don't know about mattresses isn't worth knowing - very well informed and helpful staff and lots of info on their website too.

Lured by the company's self-comparisons with Vi-Spring, we bought an Artisan Bespoke 003 superking with divan and 15 year guarantee. Yet with meticulous care and one 14st adult using it, just over 6 years later it is now in one of the least used spare rooms as it has dipped more than 6cm in one place rendering comfortable sleep impossible.
20/08/2025 - thank you for your reply. I do not understand how you can use the same tolerances as ViSpring unless you are the same company... this is the response from Julie
"For your information on settlement tolerance, we use the same settlement figures as listed on Vi Spring website.
There is nothing further that we can do with regard to this matter until you have had your own inspection carried out.
Kind Regards
Julie Collier - Sales Advisor"
Also on the Bed Federation website, to which I was referred by Julie for a second opinion, it says:
"There is no official industry standard for determining whether the settlement is excessive, as there are simply too many variables to consider. Some bed manufacturers, retailers and independent inspection companies use a measuring system based on the type of mattress fillings and the age of the product but this really isn’t based on any scientific evidence and so should only be used as a broad guideline."

Excellent communication at all times, even including a phone call to ensure the mattress we'd chosen was suited to us. Great product. Would buy again

Superb customer service. This is the third purchase from John Ryan and I wouldn’t go anywhere else. Excellent mattress too. Nothing is too much trouble and they go out of their way to help.

John Ryan have been fantastic. They guided us at every step of the way. This was our 4th mattress (first from John Ryan) and we couldn’t be happier.

Great service! Gary helped me sort out the best plan for delivery when I was working around a moving date and a bank holiday. Delivery was super slick. Mattress is gorgeous and we have never slept better!

Purchased a Artisan 1500 Super King mattress in May 2023 at the cost of £1555. We have religiously turned and spun the mattress as per the instructions it came with. The mattress has noticeably dipped in the 2 "sleeping zones" (We accept that with the mattress being so large that the centre will stand proud) Contacted the company and they duly sent round someone to inspect the mattress. Apparently the mattress is still within "tolerance" so there is nothing they can do. (For reference I am 15 stone and the wife is 9 stone) The wife likens it to sleeping in a ditch! So after spending £1550 and after just 2 years of use we are now having to buy a new mattress.
Further to the reply we received (below) using the centre part of the mattress may indeed flatten it out to a similar level but it won't restore the parts of th bed that we sleep on!

Mixed experience. I bought one of their cheaper mattresses (after lots of research), and it came with a three year guarantee. Within those three years, there was such sag in it, it wasn't really usable anymore. John Ryan sent out an 'inspector' who conceded it had definitely sagged, though his report seemed ambiguous, as John Ryan said it hadn't 'failed' the test, but as a goodwill gesture, they'd replace it. For this I was grateful (though already a little sceptical).
Now, only a year or so in, the replacement mattress has also failed with a big sag on my side (to clarify, I'm about 6ft tall and 14 stone, so I'm not a fatty ;-)). Having written to them again, they've advised there's nothing they can do. So on one side, I'm grateful for their replacement, but now in need of another mattress (again!)?!
All the above said, I've only ever found the company professional and courteous. Just disappointed in the quality of the mattress. Arguably, we should have spent more on a better mattress, but our budget didn't stretch that far!

This was the second time I've purchased a John Ryan mattress. I moved and needed a new one. I gave John Ryan a call to discuss the differences between two options and got useful information that made the decision easier. The ordering process is straightforward and when Julie contacted me she had all the details of my previous purchase. This was useful because they consider your heigh, weight, sleeping preferences, and who is going to be using the mattress to ensure it's well suited. The mattress was ready earlier than expected and the delivery was managed perfectly. The mattress is exactly what I needed and I'm incredibly happy with it. In general, I love how detailed their website is and how they address topics clearly. It makes my nerdy brain happy to see this level of care and attention. I'm looking forward to many years of comfort with my new mattress.

I was so happy with my previous John Ryan by Design Mattress that I bought another one when I moved home many years later!
I bought the Artisan Natural both times. Comfortable and I don't get too hot in bed. I also like the fact that it is mostly (if not completely) natural as I try to avoid artificial stuff as much as possible.
I am very happy with my new mattress - as I was with the old one. My cat had no complaints either!

When I was deciding which bed and mattress to choose, everyone I spoke to from John Ryan was very helpful and keen to ensure I made the best choices for my new bed and mattress...and they were spot on! I have never slept on such a comfy mattress/bed! From the first night I could feel the difference, and it has only got better as my body has got used to the (lovely, thick!) mattress. The two men who delivered my bed and mattress were very helpful and cheerful too. No complaints anywhere - thank you very much!

Really good company image and marketing, slick website, brilliant sales team and advice.
All good for a year but then it’s just the same old story, the matters starts to overly soften/settle in the middle, where you sleep. The only reason this isn’t 1 start is because it’s an industry rare flip mattresses & so you get a couple of nights of the proper support you paid for every week or so until is softened again.
All mattress companies will term you this isn’t a fault, they stand being the slightly lax regulation which protects them and puts them in the right, not the consumer. If the regulations were on the consumer side I suspect all matters companies would instantly be in for a very hard time, but we’d get to see if we’d all been ripped off all these years because maybe they can actually manufacture mattresses which don’t dip and sag after a year or so.
I can’t be bothered fighting it or getting a waste of time home visit to tell me what I already know, it hasn’t dipped enough. The problem comes when the mattress is under load, not when it’s just static and the gaps are full of air instead of densely packed filling.
This never used to happen with mattresses, the full spring type used to just last decades and provided good support all that time, the more complicated they’ve become the worse they’ve become. Sure they feel great for a year, which I bet is when most of the 5 star reviews are done.
My wife thinks I have mental problems because we get a new mattresses every 3 years because of dipping. Once we’ve paid one off we buy another in false hope it’ll be better. We’re both also under 11 stone, there are very few couples with a combined weight as low as ours so the pressure of the mattress is low.
So what do we do? Nothing. I don’t have the energy for more disappointment. I’d advise you to avoid but honestly where else do you go? They’re all the same.
I might set up a company who will come and inject new filling for your mattresses for £200 so bring them back to life. I’d make a fortune.
*edit.
No, I can’t be bothered contacting you for you to play by the rules which are against the consumer and support the manufacturers in making it acceptable beds that dip. That don’t last. That cost me ~£2000 and last less than a year. I don’t have the energy for the disappointment.
I’m not going to have someone come to my house and tell me it’s not dipped enough for anymore to do anything about. You know well enough that the problem happens when weight, a body, is on the mattress. The filling loses its strength and can’t support the weight of a body.
You’d get rich if you designed a way to pump filling into what we the consumer think is a failing mattresses. I’d pay you £150-£200 to do it I honestly would.

Bought the mattress years ago and I LOVE it - I found the one I wanted elsewhere and spoke to them about what their equivalent was - which was considerably cheaper than the one I liked on the high street. Regretted not buying the matching base (I bought a slatted base to match my other bedroom furniture instead). Finally got around to getting the divan base with head and foot board to match and it's so much better, more comfortable, no dip in the mattress now. They sent me a fabric book to help decide on material & colour and I'm delighted with my full bed set up now. Excellent quality, sturdy and plush. My mattress is super deep and I have multiple types of protectors and toppers (yep, princess and the pea) so be aware if you like that type you'll need very deep fitted sheets for it.

Mattress is top quality, 4 week lead time was definitely worth the wait. Communication was great throughout and mattress was taken to room of my choice no fuss.
