I've lived in my home for over a decade without any moth issues — until the past year, and only in my bedroom. I bought a John Ryan mattress less than a year ago, and while I found it uncomfortable and prone to sagging, I recently discovered something far worse.

When I went to flip it, I found hundreds of moths and larvae under the impermeable protective cover I had fitted. I can't say for certain how they got there, but it's deeply concerning. I’ve had no similar issues elsewhere in the house. I’m now replacing the mattress and would not recommend it based on my experience.

Oh and has anyone noticed how many 5 star reviews there are of this company by reviewers who have just posted 1 review.... all fake. Don't believe the hype these mattresses are absolutely shockingly bad.

Faultless service including a call to make sure the mattress was right for me which proved to be so. A company that cares about its product and its customers

Very honest and true to their word

Purchased the Artisan Tailored Pocket 2000 king size Mattress in September 2020. Although it was extremely comfortable at first, just over 4 years of use I noticed it had dipped heavily on 1 side despite being turned and rotated at the recommended intervals. We purchased the correct mattress which exceeded our weight criteria (we're both under 75kgs). Extremely disappointed with the mattress, especially so considering the price point.
I suppose we were taken in by the website declaring how superior the mattresses are.
I can't be bothered attempting to make a claim under the warranty as I genuinely would not want to put my back through pain again. Thankfully it's being disposed of in the coming days.

I deliberately decided against reaching out to you. Reason being, aside from wanting to avoid a long drawn out saga, the best outcome that could possibly be achieved would be another one of your products. Something I could never contemplate again.

Great mattress and very good service. Thank you for lending me the swatch book which was really helpful. Everything went to plan. Really helpful videos and info when choosing. Would recommend.

Enquired about the potentiality of my mattress being replaced, repaired, or a voucher, after giving up sleeping in a dip for a year. My mattress formed a dip in 3yrs, I weigh 67kg.

I was under the impression these mattresses were top tier, high quality, and worth the money. It's marketed as having two sides, so two mattresses in terms of life, and backed by a solid warranty. Couldn't be further from reality.

I was aware of the faults these mattresses have after researching on here and forums, but I thought I don't weigh much, surely I won't break a mattress, and I am polite with communication so JR's ignorance is probably just due to rude customers. Again how wrong was I?
I had already bought a new mattress before I sent the email as I knew how it would go, and this time I went for a cheapo mattress again as my last cheapo one lasted forever. Yet, I bought a quality topper for my John Ryan after I started getting shoulder pain on their softest one.

The most baffling and irritating bit about John Ryan is their commitment to gaslighting the customer with nonsense. The email I received after showing the photos of the mattress are so long that they won't fit here. So just a few quoted bits to show what they're truly like.

All mattresses settle where you lie the most and this is not a fault but a sign that the upholstery fibres are behaving as they should. When a mattress is made, all the upholstery fibres are completely flat and level with the piping. Adding the piping and the tufts compacts the fibres and creates the domed area. As you sleep and move around on the mattress, the upholstery layers soften and flatten out.

As we are creatures of habit, we tend to sleep in the same position on the mattress, the upholstery layers in this area settle, but leave the surrounding upholstery layers like new. This looks like the mattress has sagged or that there are raised areas on the surface of the mattress. Turning the mattress over on a regular basis and utilising the whole of the sleep surface will help to even out the settlement of the upholstery layers. As a lone sleeper, it is essential to sleep on all areas of the mattress and not just the centre. The upholstery fibres should eventually be flat and level with the piping once again"

Unfortunately my mattress didn't come with a technical manual. But snarkiness aside, imagine a side sleeper having to sleep near the edges of a mattress, who then wakes up and rolls over the wrong way! Ouch. What planet is JR on?!

I've given two stars as at least the side handles were able to handle the weight of the mattress when flipping. Delivery was satisfactory.

Just a great service, something a little lost these days, but they were fantastic. Mattress is also superb, we are very pleased.

Ordering was very easy and advice from customer service ensured we made the best choice for our needs.

We bought a super king mattress from John Ryan last year. Customer experience and shipping was all great.

After we started using the mattress, it seemed to start sagging. We dismissed this at first as we thought it's settling, but we eventually contacted the company. They sent out someone to check it and they deemed it as defective.

So now we had to wait several weeks for a new mattress to arrive.

When it finally did, it smelled like a barn - much much worse than the first one. We thought it just needed some more time to air out, but it still smells 5 months later.

I also feel like the new mattress is again starting to sag in the middle.

Overall I can't recommend this brand.

I am not entirely sure why you are "disappointed" by my review. As I have quite clearly stated, I am not happy with the mattress itself, not your willingness or ability to make things right.

Your explanation for the cause of "sagging" has already been given to me, and was shown to not be applicable, given that the sagging occurs in the middle, "where nobody sleeps".

Additionally, the "earthy" smell you described is not at all what I have experienced with the second mattress.

I don't think it's too much to expect that a £2,000 + mattress just "works", and doesn't require multiple returns or back-and-forths with customer support.

I ordered the Origins 1000 as I have ordered this one previously and I know it’s the correct level of firmness for me.

The surface of the mattress is different to my previous mattresses but I’m assuming it’s the same mattress, other than this slight difference?

Excellent bed. Comparatively reasonable prices and great service

Very helpful in talking me through the process of choosing which mattress would be the correct one. I was hesitant about buying on-line but when you read through the website and watch the videos explaining what goes into a mattress, all the different materials, the calculations used it's impressive. The mattress we choose is so comfortable, like sleeping on a cloud!

We recently bought a zip-linked super king mattress from John Ryan, and I can confidently say it’s the best mattress we’ve ever had. It strikes the perfect balance, it's firm, supportive, yet incredibly comfortable. Sleep has honestly never felt better. I wake up rested and genuinely look forward to going to bed every night.

What really stood out, though, was the exceptional customer service. After placing a separate order for a topper, they actually called me to say they didn’t think I needed it, and advised giving the mattress a month before deciding. They cancelled the order and refunded me without hesitation. And they were absolutely right — no topper needed!

Their honesty, attention to detail, and genuine care for customer satisfaction really impressed me. Based on both product quality and the level of service I received, I would 100% recommend John Ryan. Rare to find a company that gets it so right, from start to finish.
