Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 38 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many people found customer service unhelpful and difficult to navigate, often spending hours on calls without resolution and repeatedly explaining issues. Consumers also faced significant problems with payment processing, including delays, account lockouts, and transfer difficulties, leading to frustration and inconvenience. However, some customers also noted concerns regarding the bank's handling of fraud and disputes. Several reviewers reported that the bank seemed to favor customers in transaction disputes, even with merchant evidence, and some felt its dispute resolution process was unfair. Others experienced accounts closed or compromised, feeling the bank did not adequately protect them in such situations.

WORST BANK.

I have been banking with chase for 6 years. The service was good but since 2019 and more so in the 8 months the service, communication and professionalism both in branch and online are horrific.

For instance, I wanted to open a business checking account. I was directed to open through the bank website. After going through many questions taking several minutes a box pops up stating business accounts can only be opened in branch. I went to a local branch and was told only certain locations have a business rep. They directed me to call each branch for a business agent. While each branch has an individual phone number all numbers dialed are funneled into a main regional automated answering. I've called 23 times since Dec 8 2021 to Jan 23 2022 the voice system says all reps are busy please call again and hangs up.

So I drive to a second branch, no business rep. Drive to 4 more the fourth branch has a business agent but he's off for 3 weeks and there are no business account mgrs in the entire county in riverside ca.

I call customer service and as I'd say 95% of calls are answered in Malaysia or the Philippines. I explained a the above. They are very good at apologizing but offer no resolution to anything. They advised I call each branch in another county. I explained again the individual phone numbers are connected and no option for messages. I asked what are my other options I just want to open a checking account and the big answer?...well sir i don't work at a branch. It's not my fault.

I went to us bank. I not only opened a business account in 15 min but also personal checking and moved all my accounts to usbank.

They will take your money hostage

Actually if it was possible I would rate them with minus 5 stars. They are a horrible institution that will close you accounts for no reason whatsoever; and then they will hold your money hostage for weeks. If you try to reach someone at the executive level, they will only talk to you once then avoid all phone calls. The customer service line has NO information or answers, and the executives and CEO, Jamie Dimon, all hide behind the shield of their customer service personnel.

First class service

I use them for business banking and have had stellar service. I am assigned my own personal banking rep and any time I need something, I call or email her directly rather than calling a general phone line. She gets it done. My banker has spent hours assisting me with issues that would normally require me to do in person. The fees for business banking are a bit higher than a lot of smaller banks out there, but I feel like I am getting what I pay for.

Why. Just why?

So locking me out of my account everytime I try to pay my bill, make me HAVE TO pay in bank, which is 23 miles away from me, and then discriminate against me for not being able to keep up with a bill that's constantly being forced into a place where I cant pay it responsibly?
And oh Jesus, oh Jesus, I am not a person to comment on people who make their living working as cs using CRM but you guys harass me, and when I answer you hang up? What kind of crap is this?
Then you continue to market offers to me as if I can even do anything.
No one i know trusts you guys, I took a chance and I regret it.
Its virtually impossible to contact them or make plans to pay your bill or even set up an account, and in the end it only reflects negatively on you because we all are playing some kind of adult blame game? I've paid the bill twice over now, and im still treated second class, and im still treated as if my belief you guys won't do it again to me even after speaking to a banker, is wrong which I know now it is.
Why should I have given you the benefit of the doubt twice, and still not get anywhere?
The BBB should really investigate both chase and wellsfargo, this is insane I can't trust any banks. Its like the depression again.
Rest assured next payment is the last, and the test of my assets are being put into a safe place where I won't give anyone that same trust.
So thanks for trust issues, because I was entrusted with an agreement which I withheld and im still not getting the take from my give.

Worst Credit Card-Never win a $$$ DISPUTE, only $5.00 disputes

The worst credit card company when it comes to disputes, and standing behind their customers. I truly had a legitimate reason to dispute a charge -888 Auctions sold me a 'Diamond' that was lab created, and never disclosed type of diamond. Chase sided with merchant, and I was charged for the item. I worked with the merchant and sent it back; now I have to pay the charge $1,220.00, and I have no Diamond. Chase still stands with the merchant! REALLY!!! Why have a Dispute Department???!! The worst credit card company ever!!!

Terrible Customer Service - taken to Ombudsman

COMPLAINT REF 00032793

I have been trying to sign up for a Chase UK account via the app and it requires ID verification whereby it supposedly automatically takes a selfie if you smile at the camera. The problem here is it REFUSES to take the photo. when I follow the instructions that your customer service advisor "Jules" tells me to, then the app simply doesn't register that I'm smiling and it and won't take the photo.

I can just about accept a technical issue, but having unqualified amateurs at customer service WASTE MY TIME clearly reading off a script with pointers like "make sure you aren't wearing sunglasses" and "make sure you are pointing the camera towards your face" then that's where I draw the line.

In fact no, I draw the line at your insulting letter concluding my complaint as being rejected because apparently I am not following the in-app instructions. I've explained the situation a dozen times in three phone calls, yet you still play dumb, stick rigidly to your script and act like you can't possibly fathom that an app won't take a photo of me. I'd told you in the first call that I intend to transfer just over 60k into that account - do you think I would have anywhere near that amount in savings if I was so stupid as to not be able to operate an app requiring a selfie?

I have taken the claim to the Ombudsman, thus you'll be paying their fees, plus compensation when I eventually win. All of this could have been resolved if you'd have simply put out an app that worked or *gasp* accepted my request to send you an email of my ID and selfie to verify my identity. I offered you this option several times but apparently a huge organisation like JP Morgan doesn't have a single email address and arbitrarily relies on an AI to verify identities rather than having a human look at the IDs.

Other complaints to add - they are liars. They claim they've tried to call me three times to resolve this matter. They haven't called. No missed calls, no voicemails. When I've pushed them to confirm the dates and times they supposedly called me, they can't produce this information. In one letter they have tried to quote me as saying I have said "I have matured in appearance" and as such they're treating this as some kind of admission don't look like my passport - I've never said that! My ID photos were taken relatively recently so the likeness to my ID is not an issue. And even if that was true, what on earth has that got to do with the complaint about your app refusing to take a selfie! If you're going to LIE then at least make the lie consistent with the issue I am actually making a complaint about!

If this is how you think you're going to break into the UK banking sector then think again. Unprofessional, chaotic incomprehensible complaints handling. The UK banks run rings around you in every respect, from their apps, websites, customer service and complaints handling.

UPDATE - Despite Chase maintaining that they did nothing wrong and that I wasn't taking the selfie "correctly", I proceeded with my complaint to the Ombudsman and was awarded £750. The Ombudsman specifically noted that I have been "singled out" on the grounds of appearance. So there you have it. A bank discriminates against a customer on the grounds of appearance then desperately tries to deny it. Shameful.

Chase VISA Card Benefit Services - Useless Garbage, AVOID like COVID!!

This is a review of the Chase VISA Card Benefit Services, which is supposed to help the consumers but what it does is really help themselves. How?
I bought a new Dell laptop in 2019. It ended up with a hinge problem resulting in broken LCD assembly + an inflated battery resulting in broken covers. I filed an online claim with Card Benefit Services (CBS). They quickly denied it stating I did not provide a US warranty (!). They NEVER read the warranty. I proved I had the US warranty. Now they paid up the initial claim, being proven liar and non-credible. However, the second claim about broken covers, they have never paid, in spite of escalating the complaint to James Dimon and Gordon Smith of Chase Executive Management and VISA CEO Alfred Kelley.
Chase, unfortunately, approves of this tactic and despite repeatedly complaining to them, they have refused to do anything.
CBS is the biggest fraud on unsuspecting customers. It gives you a false sense of security when there is none to be had. CBS will approve all small claims while denying the large claims, and since there are more small claims than large claims, they can show a great experience rate and claim pay-up rate. A scam that Insurance Regulators and AGs should investigate.

If you’re one day late with cc payment…

If you’re one day late with cc payment they wack you with ungodly fees. They’re pit bulls when it comes to greedy fees. I wish Amazon would align themselves with a better bank. YouTube Warren/Dimon grilling before senate. They got billions in PPP $ from tax payers and then whacked us for 1.5B in late fees.

Go with J.P. Get a late charge on your card every month.

When i had a J.P. Morgan/Chase account I used to pay my Chases credit card with them through the Chase application on my android phone. You click "pay" then the site transmits and goes to a blank screen. You think, well, i clicked pay. It went through, yay another bill paid. Then days later I see a late charge on my bill. I scheduled a phone meeting with a branch manger. She said well show me what your are getting. I tried to show her the blank screen. I offered to send screen shots of exactly what the app was doing. She said send what you want. She confirmed that i was clicking the "paid" button. The screen transmits. We reviewed that it was connected to my checking account, etc. Finally she said well you did not get a page that says "paid" so you must not have paid. The late charge stays. Every month it did this. I continued to complain.
I paid every bill on time. With Chase it was always late. I cannot help what their application/web site does when you click paid. On my side it transmits to another screen. There android application has nothing to do with me. I think they purposefully designed there web site like this in order to collect late fees. I have paid bills on line and through apps hundreds of times successfully, but with Chase, not on time and no one will work with you to resolve. Why should they? they are getting paid late fees every month. Think about that thousands and probably millions of customers who tried to pay their bill on time. Then got stuck with a $39 dollar late fee because of some kind of flaw in the way the Chase application works. Must be nice to design something that does not work. Make people think it did work. Then tell them it did not go through and now you owe us a late fee every month. Finally, started going into the branch to make payment. With traffic, and banking hours had to take off work every time. Just to make sure they did not get the extra $39 late fee. Finally paid that card off and closed that account. When i finally closed and told the lady why i was closing she acted like there was nothing wrong with there application. Now they are suing Elon for making a "statement."? Don't we live in the land of the free and the home of the brave? Are owners of companies allowed freedom of speech without getting sued? Come On J.P? Oh I am sorry did some words hurt your feelings? Cause you a problem? Too bad. You recouped the $138 million that you are suing for through your faulty phone application.

I am a customer of chase bank but not…

I am a customer of chase bank but not for much longer. I don’t like the way they treat my president, my politics, my beliefs, nor do I appreciate the way they go after innovative minds like Elon Musk. Chase does not deserve my money and they won’t have it for much longer.

Worse then I imagined

Well looks like I'm adding another one star to Chase! Who's running this place anyway? Seems like the king of chase is very far removed from all us peasants!!
I digress... They held a settlement check for 187.00 drawn off Bank of America for 14 days. 14 days. I'm out of work. I needed to buy groceries. And I make too much unemployment to get food help. So I ate eggs and bread. And pudding cups. They say they will release it Friday. I guess we will see. Duncan, my lab mix, is sick of me measuring out his food.
31.5 million... Hmm.. I wonder what Mr. Dimon had for dinner.
