just love it! bought a chess set for my husband's birthday, really high quality, nice packaging and on-time delivery!

Ordered a chess set (18 inch consul) for my boyfriend who has recently got into chess. I was a bit nervous after reading some of the reviews about long waiting times etc. because it was a birthday present. However, my experience was great! Ordered the chess set on 25th March, it was shipped on 29th March and delivered on 6th April.
The condition of the consul chess set was great (as described/shown) and my boyfriend was very pleased. I would recommend Kaoori to order from and will look to order from them again in the future.

After searching the web for the best set under £100, I found this site. Due to COVID and the 'Queen's Gambit' chess boom, the waiting time was 1 month. This took much much longer, but customer service were very helpful. I was given a 10% discount for the wait.

The set (18 Inch Essen Staunton Set) arrived yesterday and I am very happy with it! I would definitely recommend this site, just be aware that you may wait a while for it to arrive (although this may change when the chess boom settles down).

I ordered a chess mid December 2020, and I was told it would take 4 weeks to be delivered. It has now been 4 months and I still have not received it.

In February I contacted them to ask where it was an I was told it would be dispatched in 2 weeks. I never heard anything again.

It is now April and I contacted them again, and they told me it would be dispatched in 2-3 weeks. I have asked for a refund, and after some back and forth they have agreed to refund me. I’m yet to see the money arrive in my account.

I have had no contact from the company from the point I ordered, except when I have contacted them.

I would definitely recommend avoiding this company.

After ordering from this company last year and having a huge amount of trouble they contacted me to say they could provide the set I had requested I was very dubious but decided to try.
Well my set has arrived today and although there is slight damage to the box ( not reported as it won't be living in it) the set is lovely nice weight and well finished.
I really hope this is a turning point for them as the product is very good.

2 months and 21 days after ordering I still have not received the chess set I bought & paid for on 5th Jan. All I have received are perpetual lies and incompetence from Kaoori. Below is a paste of my reply to their latest email which is pretty self-explanatory. Hopefully this review will forewarn you from making the same mistake I did: (I have removed the email addresses to comply with Trustpilot's Terms).

Dear Kaoori,

I have just retrieved your email below from my Junk Folder and respond as follows.

I am disappointed Kaoori are still handing out false promises about my order. For clarification, when I ordered the chess set on 5th January you told me that you would be shipping my chess set on 15th January and it would take 3-5 working days to deliver. I should therefore have received it by Friday 22nd January.

As an example of the latest lie, your email below dated 7th March states “your item will be arriving 2-3 weeks later than originally estimated at the time of your order”. “3 weeks later” than the original delivery date of 22nd January is Friday 12th February so why you would email me on the 7th March telling me my chess set would be delivered 4 weeks earlier on 12th February once again demonstrates Kaoori’s utter incompetence.

I have one final question, why do Kaoori lie to customers? Do they think this will be good for business? I would imagine that any potential Kaoori customer reading the online review I plan to write very soon will certainly not be ordering anything from you.

I ordered a chess set from here on 18/01/21 when it was still in stock on the website as I’d read the chess set reviews which seemed good. By 10/02/21 the chess set hadn’t arrived so I emailed them. Eventually they replied and offered a 10% refund for the delay and inconvenience and told me my chess set would be dispatched mid February. By 1st March it still hadn’t arrived so I emailed and requested a full refund, which was processed for me.
The service is diabolical and had I read these reviews before ordering, then I would never have placed my order with them.

Selling chess sets they don't have is not a good business model in 2021. Kaoori are still taking orders on their website for backordered chess pieces and boards. I ordered in late January, and my order still hasn't arrived, two months later.

1st April Update: Still nothing from Kaoori. No delivery. No tracking number. No contact. The only sign of life from them is their unsuccessful attempt to try and have this review removed. I wish they'd put that effort into fulfilling my order.

19th March review:

Just awful. Avoid. Avoid. Avoid. I've been waiting since the beginning of December for a chess board which, at the time, was supposed to be delivered within 20 working days. It is still not clear to me now when it is going to arrive, or if it is ever going to arrive.

Ever since January every time I contact this company for an update (they have not once contacted me to provide an update on my order) they tell me it will be dispatched within 2 weeks and I'll receive a tracking number soon. Every time this doesn't happen, and then I have to contact them again, to be told the exact same thing again. I feel like they are fobbing me off every time and that they have no real clue what the status of my order is.

This is the worst customer service I have ever experienced. They were quick to take my money, and I don't know if I'm ever going to get the product I paid for.

I would definetly recommend this shop if you search for high quality chess sets. Everybody complaining about the delivery issues clearly didn't even notice that this is a current issue every high quality chess shop (amazon excluded of course) faces these days (covid etc.) I'm completly satisfied by the quality of my order (58×58 chess board). 10/10 would definetly recommend if you're ok with waiting a tiny bit longer, but really want to have some quality chess boards.

Firstly my one star is purely for customer service. The actual goods are fantastic. If you are ready to be infuriated and flat out ignored for three months when your product was supposed to be shipped within 10 days then Kaoori is the way to go. I sent my first email (which was ignored) two weeks after my order to find out what was going on and why it had not shipped yet. I got no response. I continued to do so almost weekly for a month until I was fed up and one day decided to write 15 emails to which I got a response stating I would be contacted soon. Another 10 emails and I was told the package would be shipped within the next 14 days. It shipped 21 days later and arrived 2 days after that.

Pleased with chess set and I am enjoying learning how to play. I am a little disappointed that the set is red and cream ( was expecting black and white) but it is a good beginner's set.

Ordered chess set as a gift for my son’s birthday. At order stage was told 20 day wait. Ordered on 21 January and am still waiting. Was promised it would be dispatched within the week for the past 3 weeks. Have given up and requested a refund as tired of constantly ringing and emailing. Save yourself the time and grief. Order elsewhere where you might actually get what you order!

The board arrived in good condition, a very nice product, and although it was a week or two late due to Covid rules I was able to communicate with them via their website and receive updated info within a minute or two of doing so. I will definitely use the site again in the future.

I didn't expecting delivery of the order in such a short time, ..., instead in 30 days, it was realized in 14 days, and so I was very pleasantly surprised.

Received a Chess set and the Queen has a chunk missing out of the wood, sent in an email but no response. Also no extra queens for upgrading pawns
