David is a very good improv teacher. One of the most useful things I’ve learnt from him is to trust the process rather than forcing a clever idea too early. Often the simpler, more committed choice ge... See more

I really like David's style
I really like David's style, no shouting, overreacting, or exaggerating for jokes. He's a bit deadpan and calm, with a subtle but convincing and clear way of directing scenes. He encourages more activities instead of people just arguing or circling around topics, which keeps everything fresh and engaging. Sometimes he even joins the scene himself, which is always so helpful and fun! Such a great community, thanks to his leadership.
Best show in town @ Mr Bingo
Utter joy
David Elms Describes a Room was utter joy. David created a magical evening, so much warmth and brilliantly funny. It felt very special and experiencing it in Mr Bingo's shop was inspiring.
So much fun
So much fun! Tried a new style of improv and it wasn't daunting at all. A wonderful atmosphere created and I will take so much from this for my future improv journey
An incredibly welcoming and inclusive course for all.
This was the first improv course I’ve ever done, which could have been intimidating but David has created a course that is welcoming and inclusive to everyone, whether a beginner like me or more seasoned improvisers. David’s ethos of slowing things down and focusing on being present in the moment is enhanced by clear direction and a structure that allows people to find their way through. Rather than overloading the players with theory or too many things to remember at once.
Would highly recommend the 8 week long course or any of the other Leap- Day events!
8 Week Course
David’s 8 week course gave me the opportunity to build back up improv confidence and fall in love with improv again.
I learnt a lot from this course and David was excellent at making it a relaxed and enjoyable environment. The analogies were really helpful and what is so great about David’s teachings is, improv doesn’t have to be that complicated. His method is refreshing and straightforward.
Would definitely recommend to beginners, improvers and experienced players.
Fun relaxed intuitive approach to long form improv
I did the leapday 8 week improv course. For context this wasn't my first improv course, and I am a regular performer.
I found David's approach to improv fun, relaxed and very intuitive; which I really gelled well with. I would definitely recommend the course for newcomers and more experienced players
David’s the best teacher/improviser/guy
This 8 week improv course is the best intro you could ever have! David creates such a good environment in the room, and makes learning what can be quite a daunting art form very easy to understand. Seasoned players were also in attendance and I felt so encouraged to learn from and play with everyone. It was the most fun I’ve had in ages!
8 week course
Thoroughly enjoyed the 8 week course. David is very good at creating an environment which feels safe and welcoming in which to learn and play. He's also great at striking a balance between supporting and challenging you in your creativity. I highly recommend Leapday and will be back for more!
Take the leap
I completed the 8-week course with David which was fantastic. I learnt a lot, had loads of fun and met a great bunch of people.
David teaches in a very inclusive way, making it easy for everyone to be involved and be confident to try things in front of others. Highly recommended!

David creates a fantastic atmosphere and keeps the learning practical, allowing for discovery through play and performance.
The most impressive thing was how this worked for everyone of all levels of experience and left me feeling confident to get up as part of a team
Improved my confidence, felt funny, had fun
David led our group on an 8-week course, where with each session I felt myself and witnessed the other participants grow in confidence and ability consistently.
He kept a group of 12 different people on task, with good humour and gentle but helpful guidance. I've never done any improv before his course but now I'm excited to get on stage with the new friends I've made on his course.
A great jam!
I had a really fun jam session. Super supportive, fun, and well run!

I had such an amazing time with Leapday. I was so nervous when arrived but by the end I felt so confident and comfortable with everyone.
Very fun and inclusive
Very fun and inclusive! David is the best in the biz
David taught me Level 1 improv way back…
David taught me Level 1 improv way back in 2017 and he continues to be an excellent teacher and all round lovely human. I've had fun at the leapday choir and look forward to seeing what other fun nonsense he cooks up. Highly recommend!
Unique and magical
David Elms Describes a Room is, ironically, indescribable. David has incredible skills for enacting the ideas given to him by the audience, and the shared experience is magical. Hugely important was the quality of shared endeavour that David created, so that we all felt 'we can do this'. I loved it.
A fantastic experience with an improv veteran!
I did the 8 week Long-form Improv Course run by David Elms and it quickly became the highlight of my week! David distills his multiple decades of improv experience into helpful lessons and fun exercises that goes straight to expanding your knowledge and confidence at improv. Simultaneously he creates a judgement free space where people can feel free to be silly and make fun of themselves (David will often do this to himself!) forming a community that has lasted beyond the 8 weeks for me and acted as a great gateway into the London improv scene. Make sure you can go to as many (if not all) of the weeks as possible to get the most out of it!
A great community and experience
It's not often you find something that feels completely frivolous AND completely vital at the same time, but that's what David Elms has got here in the jam. There was a holding yet light touch facilitation of the session, allowing everyone to stretch themselves as they wished or were able. The jammers were very welcoming and inclusive despite my inexperience and there were lots of opportunities on offer. Give it a go!
Leapday jams
I’ve been to a few of the jams. The community are very welcoming and everyone is there to have a good time.
