David is a very good improv teacher. One of the most useful things I’ve learnt from him is to trust the process rather than forcing a clever idea too early. Often the simpler, more committed choice ge... See more

Tip-top teaching!
I did David’s course over four Saturdays and loved it. Really recommend it to anyone who wants to get out of their head and be reminded that the best improv is playful and fun. Really liked how David simplified the key ideas in a way which led to lots of “light bulb” moments for me. Plus he’s as funny as a teacher as he is stage - so the classes are always very entertaining. Would really recommend Leap Day both for people who’ve done improv before and complete beginners - there was a real mixture of experience on my course but David somehow makes that work. Also the Leapday jams are great - love the way that David structures them so you’re focusing on the skills you’ve covered on the courses. All in all, can’t recommend Leapday enough. I’ll be going back for more soon!
Choir jam is fun, relaxed and very welcoming!
I attended the Choir Jam as my first leapday event. I discovered leapday after watching David's brilliant show 'David Elms Describes a Room'. He is such an accomplished and confident performer that I knew I was in safe hands with anything he had organised. The choir jam is a totally relaxed session where everyone is welcome, regardless of singing skills or musical knowledge. Since getting involved in the improv community, my sense of community has grown tenfold and I will definitely be back for more singing and more leapday events.
Transformative
Gold standard, my top recommendation for unusual, not-seen-before and actionable training. David and the leapday team provide a brilliant service which any group of employees would be lucky to have access to. Transformative, impactful and memorable for all the right reasons.
100% made me a better at improv
I feel like I've learned so much after taking the course: it was a perfect mix of helpful theory (which I found lacking in some other improv schools) and supervised practice with immediate useful feedback -- and it managed to stay fun throughout. Plus it was a great opportunity to play with a bunch of extremely talented people with their unique strengths and styles.

A friendly and welcoming place that will help you to unleash your inner creativity in the most fun way possible. David is cooking something incredible here - both with the classes and the community built around our love of improv. There is no judgement, incredible support through and through, and many, many laughs. What’s more to ask? ❤️
A very disappointing session
A very disappointing session. I attended a 3 hour workshop with a tutor called Shamus and found it to be poorly planned and delivered.
The tutor mentioned several times that the session had been planned for 10 -12 people but there were only 6 people in attendance. Unfortunately, this meant that rather than filling the session with more activities, the tutor just spent a very long time on each one.
During the 3 hour session, only 3 improv activities were played.
I have to thank David for his excellent customer support. After I expressed my concerns about the session David was very quick to resolve the situation.

Turned around my opinion of improv
David strikes a good balance between giving people the "theory" and room to discover what works for themselves. He's constructive and patient with feedback and creates a very comfortable environment in all aspects especially for beginners/introverts.
Before taking the 'Slow, Stupid and Obvious' workshop, my only previous experience with improv was a 3-hr taster class that I did not like at all. I've only come around to enjoying it thanks to David's teaching approach and have since completed the 4-week long-form course as well. Looking forward to joining the Leapday Choir next!
Its a must
David is a wonderful teacher who puts you at ease and helps when needed. These Jam sessions are soo supportive and friendly I would highly recommend whatever level you are at!
David Elms Runs a Workshop
David is a playful, present and skilled facilitator. Often he'll introduce a technique and you'll wonder "how will I ever manage THAT by the end of the session?" But then he creates a safe place to experiment, guides you through structured activities which gradually build your skills, provides clear nuggets of feedback and BOOM. You've learnt something new and had a blast doing it.
Really impactful for work and play!
I found David's Workshops and Jams incredibly helpful and useful in developing my voice and confidence. He brough a of fun and play which helped unlock a part of my brain and allowed me to become a little bolder and more open. I can see these having a positive impact for both work and play.
Playing With Yourself is great fun!
I took David's solo improv class, with absolutely no previous experience, after seeing his excellent show.
Despite some substantial nerves on the night I had a fantastic experience! David is a brilliant teacher; he is supportive, fun, hilarious and compassionate to every attendee and the group were all lovely. I came away feeling great and inspired to try and incorporate more of the creative practices into my everyday life.
I would recommend any of his courses for new or experienced improv performers, and I got a lot out of it which is transferable outside of improv too!
Improvising solo
David is a brilliant teacher! He has a great way of distilling the fundamentals of improv and ensuring that you keep to them. You will be a much better improviser after he has taught you!

I’ve done two workshops with David and leapday so far, both very well thought-out and delivered and fun. Useful for complete beginners as well as experienced theatre and improv people. Very supportive and inclusive atmosphere, definitely keen to do more.

Had a fantastic evening at David's workshop. Very unique content that I had not experienced in any other of London's schools. It was great to participate in and observe so many scenes in the few hours we were there. David's a great teacher, he's direct and gives good sidecoaching. He's even funny at times.
I loved David's style of teaching
I loved David's style of teaching. He made everyone feel comfortable and gave really helpful notes about each activity we did. Even though I hadn't done improv in several years I felt at ease and had a lot of fun!

Took David's slow and stupid improv workshop. A great night, a lot of fun with really thoughtful notes. Strong recommend.
Big, big fan
Big, big fan of David's impro workshop. Never has being slow, stupid and obvious been more fun! I genuinely had the best time and I love that it's open to all levels of experience. David instantly puts people at ease so they feel comfortable enough to try new things, make mistakes, have confidence in their decisions and not be afraid to 'go big'. Keep'em coming David!
Even the introverts come out!
I took an improv workshop with David and loved it! Performing in a room with strangers is as close to a nightmare as it gets for me, but David is brilliant at creating the right space and pace. I really like how he explains the what and the why of the exercises, the side coaching, and the really comfortable and fun atmosphere.
I’ll definitely join his workshops again and would highly recommend them!
