We would like to kindly clarify how coverage purchased through a third-party broker works:
When you purchase full cover or damage protection through an online broker, that policy is an independent agreement between you and the broker. It covers reimbursement claims after the rental, but it does not remove Locauto’s standard financial deductibles (franchigie) for damage or theft at the counter.
Our counter staff are trained to explain all rental conditions clearly and offer Locauto’s direct excess-reduction coverage. Choosing Locauto’s protection reduces or eliminates the deductibles altogether, allowing us to manage any issue directly without you needing to file reimbursement claims with a third party. However, this direct coverage is always completely optional.
We apologize if this explanation felt overwhelming at the counter. Our goal is always to provide full transparency so our customers can make informed choices about their rental.

Very disappointing experience with…
Very disappointing experience with Locauto. I booked an automatic, higher-class car, but when I arrived to pick it up, I was told they only had the cheapest manual car available. There was no apology, no compensation, and no alternative solution offered. Instead, I was simply told that I could rent a car elsewhere. This was my second time renting from Locauto, and unfortunately, it was another disappointing experience. They also tried to sell me additional insurance despite the fact that I had already purchased insurance. Very disappointed with the service and customer care.

I booked the car online in advance, about two weeks before my trip.
When I arrived at the airport, I was told at the counter that there were no cars with automatic transmission available at all. I was told I would have to wait until 1:00–2:00 PM or even longer, and nobody could tell me exactly when a car would become available.
The other option they offered was a full refund, meaning I could rent a car from another company at the airport. However, that would have been significantly more expensive than booking online in advance.
In the end, we had no real choice but to agree to a manual transmission. It was Thursday, and they said they could only replace the car with an automatic one on Sunday.
Fortunately, about half an hour later, they managed to provide us with an automatic car after all. I really didn’t want to drive a manual, as I had completely forgotten how to drive one — especially in Italy! 😄
In the end, I am happy with the car itself. However, I am definitely not happy with the service or the way customers are treated, and I will not rent from this company again.
You pay for a specific service in advance, and then upon arrival you are basically told what options are available to you. That’s not how it should work.
