" we quadruple our prices, because we're here to make money" -GM in New York City
My father took his Equinox to Mavis Tire to have two motor mounts replaced. After their inspection, they said it also needed control arms, rear shocks, CV axles, and an alignment. Over $3,000 later, he left feeling taken advantage of.
The biggest issue wasn't just the cost—it was the lack of transparency. The technician told my father they replaced two motor mounts and even showed him the old parts. However, when he reviewed the invoice, he was charged parts and labor for four motor mounts.
When he questioned the labor charges, he was given three different hourly labor rates by three different employees: $175/hour, $165/hour, and $155/hour. Wanting clarification, he called and eventually spoke with the general manager. Instead of taking the time to explain the bill, she was rude and dismissive. When he asked how the labor charges were calculated, she told him he could "add it up himself."
No customer should be treated that way for simply asking questions about a $3,000 repair bill. If a business can't clearly explain its charges or treat customers with respect, that's a serious concern.
Based on this experience, I cannot recommend Mavis Tire. If you aren't familiar with automotive repairs, I encourage you to carefully review your invoice, ask questions, and consider getting a second opinion before approving expensive repairs.
