Always Helpful
The staff at every station I've used are always friendly and polite. There's always offers of assistance when travelling with larger bags or suitcases. As with other reviewers on here, the delays and cancellations can be frustrating, but for such a frequent service, this is to be expected at times. I still believe it's an excellent train service that serves the greater Merseyside area very well.
Worst rail service in the UK
Worst rail service in the UK, couldn't get any worse with the constant delays and cancellations
Been using it for over a year to get to work. Awful service, always delayed or cancelled
I use Merseyrail to go to work each day and then to go into town on the weekend. I have used the train to go all round the country and this service is by far the worst I have ever used. It is constantly delayed or cancelled (a lot of the time due to technical issues). Last year they introduced new trains and since then there has constantly been problems with them. I have bought a bike and started riding to work instead when I can to avoid using this service but I dread when I have to use it, knowing I’ll probably be late for work. You also can’t get digital tickets, you have to print them off at a kiosk at the station.
Worst company in the world. They predate…
Worst company in the world. They predate on customers, looking for any excuse at all to overcharge or fine. Trains are dirty and consistently late. Mersey rail are an utter disgrace and an embarrassment to anybody who lives in the area. I refuse to travel using their service any longer.
Worse company ever
Worse company ever, always cancelling trains with no warning, causing passengers to stay on the platform for hours at a time... Trains and tracks forever breaking down and causing havoc.. God I wish I had a car... But I don't so have to use this terrible, unreliable service... UTTER RUBBISH MERSEYRAIL..
Unreliable
Trains are constantly cancelled and/or delayed. They cannot be used as a means of reliable transport.
Investing in the wrong thing!
Incredibly outdated ticketing system where you can purchase a ticket online, but then have to collect the physical ticket before using a train. It presents itself as a way of handing out fines more frequently. But it’s okay because they are manufacturing new trains that you can get fines on.
Just as an example. You can purchase a ticket online where the journey begins at a station with no way of collecting a ticket. If you do this, you have to use an alternative mode of transport to get to the next closest station that prints tickets, defeating the point of trying to use the train. Bonkers.
Really disappointing
Really disappointing. Twice this week I have travelled on the Chester 16:11 train from Moorefields.
And on both occasions due to delays, the train went as far as Birkenhead Central then straight through to Hooton.
I understand an array of circumstances can cause delays- but can you not carry out some market research on which station would be best to terminate at? In terms of ‘most popular’.
Wish i could give these muppets 0
Wish i could give these muppets 0. Trustpilot needs to add this option as some companies don't even deserve 1 point. Checked their site and everything was running on schedule. Just got to south parkway and all trains are cancelled. Update your site more often muppets.

Out on a work’s Christmas night out 1 off my work colleagues go to get train home and get refused by staff in Liverpool central and had to pay £40 for taxi home wot a joke
What a joke
What a joke, 6.26 am cancelled again from manor road Hoylake, seems to be happening far to often, what an absolute joke.
Pathetic service
Pathetic service. Trains cancelled travelling into Liverpool due to broken down NEW TRAIN and then trains cancelled back out of Liverpool due to tree on the line. Third world transport system ffs.

We are measured in the end by how we deal with failure and disaster. The system failure on 2023-12-06, still
On going over 12 hours later was an opportunity to show leadership and strength.
There is still no news about train times. The app says “good service” right now. It took me two hours to get home, and that was only because I took an Uber after walking two miles between stations because station staff never mentioned a bus - probably because management failed to organise a replacement bus. The communication on this has been appalling. I’m used to a cancellation of at least one train a week at rush hour - I can cope with that, this was a catastrophic failure of management. Whatever engineering failure caused this is irrelevant - it is bad management
Late AGAIN
Late AGAIN, no accountably, no apology but take the money..!
Thought new trains would lead to an improved service and comfort, how ambitious was that thinking.
The worst rail network to date
The worst rail network to date. They recently introduced a new autumn schedule and they cant even follow that - always late every time. Its ok if you happen to be visiting Liverpool, but as a commuter, dont expect to rely on them. The train from Chester is suppose to leave at 21:00 and is always late leaving, the worst being 21:08.
MERSEYRAIL IS BROKEN
I commute 5 days a week using Merseyrail, I Pay almost £1000 a year for my ticket. The service that merseyrail provide is astoundingly below industry standard, a large proportion of the staff are extrememly unproffesional (I dont like to use the word 'scally' but they are), vaping on platforms and generaly being unfriendly. This then brings me to the Liverpool central station security staff, they either act like night club bouncers or think they are in the SAS, standing in groups learing at women passing by.
I was once detained by a member of staff on a station after he scanned my ticket and told me it had ran out the previous month, after explaining that it was a yearly pass he did not belive me until I pointed out the year of expiry on his device!
The introduction of the new trains is an on ongoing nightmare for passengers like me, trying to explain to either your boss why you are late for the 2nd or 3rd time that week or getting home 2 hours late to hungry children.
Your service is now negatively affecting peoples lives, MERSEYRAIL IS BROKEN.
Late arrival at orrel park for 1pm…
Late arrival at orrel park for 1pm train .which is late again arrival suppose to be 1.10 pm now . No reason given just not good enough and no one ever held responsible. I'm sure it's a service that I pay for .

Used to be great and rarely any problems but now it's a daily issue where you're almost gauanteed of cancellations. I have to go early in the morning now to go to the gym in city centre liverpool before work to avoid being late for work but unfortunately early running trains seem to be where alot of the trouble is, be it late running trains, cancelling them or delaying journeys by suddenly kicking people off mid journey due to 'technical issues'. Working life is hard enough as it is and the added stress will not help people's mental health, worrying about being late for work and it's not as if its cheap either.
Well ' where do I start ' after…
Well ' where do I start ' after deciding to get the train into southport with my kids after Not visiting for many years ' my first impression of southport Station was not good. Dirty Station ' rubbish all over the trackside bird's hanging from netting on the roof ' absolute dump.
We had a amazing time in southport the town is beautiful ' but the gateway into the town (southport Station) is a mess ' sort it out merseyrail.
SARDINES AND COVID
Hello
I want to know why you are using just 3 carriages on James to West Kirby at 17:58. Train is rammed and people standing. Not good for Covid.
Ellesmere port 17:57 had 4 carriages.
It is disgraceful and it us getting busier now. There is no excuse except Costs. My friend is Editior on Echo paper and maybe he can run this in paper as Merseyrail dont seen to be bothered. Please add another carriage to trains so people can sit
Thank you
