Amazing company

Amazing company! I messaged them Monday about my vol 2 and sub not charging on either of my cables. Wednesday now and they’ve sent me a replacement cable and it’s working :D very happy!

I recently bought the Minirig bundle.

I recently bought the bundle of two minirig 3's and a subwoofer. After some minor hassle getting them to daisy chain and communicate a brief call to Minirig resolved all of my difficulties.
The performance of the small Bluetooth speakers is really quite exceptional, they also look good and appear to be well engineered.
Great sounds from a quality British product.
I look forward to taking them traveling to enhance my evening listening experience.

Not plug and play

I imported these speakers from the UK with the intended use of mixing inside and gigging outside. The speakers look great and (when I've had them working) they also sound great.

Unfortunately a stereo setup requires repetitive configuration before each usage, so it's not suited to listeners who want a plug-and-play solution.

Bluetooth usage:

The app-based Bluetooth connectivity is flakey. I switched to the cabled setup in search of more reliability.

Cabled usage:

The plug sockets in the speakers and subwoofer aren't marked, so I need to look up the manual every time to figure out what goes where.

To achieve a stereo field one of the speakers always needs to be toggled to the 'other' side, and I need to fiddle about with the balance control in my software to check that it's actually working.

The power/function buttons are small so when I press down on them I can't see what colour or state the integrated light is in.

At low volume the speaker cuts out. I think this can be changed in the (Bluetooth) software settings, but it would be better if this feature could be disabled by default or removed as it's not clear what the usefulness is? Home users should be able to relax to quiet/ambient music without the stress of looming disconnection. Party users would presumably have non-stop music.

Sometimes a speaker would appear to stop working at regular volume. I replaced the stock cables with Hosa cables and that seemed to work but I now think that one of the ports is unreliable.

Charging:

Keeping three individual speakers charged up is a nightmare.

The speakers seem to require a lot of power so I can't plug them into my Unitek charging station without it shutting down.

The design of the USB plugs makes it nearly impossible to plug two of these into two adjacent USB sockets, such as the two I have on my Belkin power strip. Probably the best way is to buy three USB power adapters, but then you need three spare sockets to plug these into. In my home studio spare power sockets are like gold.

My subwoofer recently stopped working. The light doesn't flash when it is charging so perhaps it is charged? I did a reset but the green light only turns on briefly then goes out.

One of the speakers seems to require more charging than the other one. The speakers were in storage for a few months so perhaps the batteries have degraded in this time and there is some optimum charging recipe to prevent this from happening.

Summary:

I suppose I could spend hours trawling through Google trying to resolve these issues - but what I REALLY want to do is make and play music.

I agree with other reviewers that the audio aspect of these speakers appears to be above-par. However every other aspect is lacking: connectivity, charging, ease-of-use, documentation.

I also agree that these issues could be mitigated by buying only one speaker.

Absolutely fantasitc company

Absolutely fantasitc company. I bought my minirig back in the summer 2017 and recently it stopped working. Instead of leading me down the route of buying a new speaker they spoke through my options and truly went the extra mile. Now my minirig works again. So not only is the speaker great, so is the customer service. Special mention goes out to Theresa for being such a great help :) When I finally do need a new speaker (who knows how long that'll be with the impeccible build quality and customer service) I'll 1000% becoming back for a another Minirig.

Quality product.Very pleased.

Very pleased with my minirig3 . A lot of people whose opinions I respect have gone down the minirig route whilst I used others . I am so very pleased that I have joined the family as it were . This is a quality product even down to the packaging and the sound quality is first class. I will be getting the sub but there is no need really.

What a brilliant piece of kit!!

What a brilliant piece of kit!!! Bought it to replace a Bose Soundlink Mini that just decided to give up the ghost. The MINIRIG 3 is awesome - a great sound in a seriously compact package. Will definitely be expanding my ownership of this equipment.

Long time owner of minirig speakers

Long time owner of minirig speakers, Owned the V1, V2, V3's in 2.1 configuration...

The sound quality on these speakers are simply way better than everything on the market, but I wish that was not the case as these speakers are very, very buggy. From switching them on to getting them to play properly has taken my over 10 minutes on several occasions.

Usually having to reset one, or both speakers multiple times to get them to stereo pair. I had these issues way back with the V1's and now owning the V3's the fact they still have these issues is quite annoying. I have had about 20 different issues over my ownership of the V3's:

- Speakers being on charge all day and having dead battery
- Speakers refusing to turn off
- Speakers that get so hot when charging I almost burn my hands
- Speakers refusing to stereo pair
- One speaker randomly cutting out constantly when anything obstructs direct line of site between the speakers. Such as someone walking between them
- Refusing to stereo pair
- Speakers loosing charge the day after being charged
- Speakers that will not even turn on unless charging and then turn off the second they are taken off charge
- Constant broken charging cables, surprised they haven't had a class action lawsuit on the defects with their overpriced cables that have a known fault that results in them breaking way too easily.
- Speakers sticking in low input mode so only work at half max volume
- Speakers wont connect to my phone when stereo paired
- Speakers randomly turning off for no reason
- Speakers randomly crackling but turning them on and off fixes it?!?

Yes I have applied all the softtware updates, and I have probably reset these speakers well over 300 times by now. And the fact that some of these issues have happened on 3 generations of speakers should highlight this cant just be my bad luck.

So after all of the issues and problems I have laid out above I still own and use these speakers but I really hope someone else comes out with something as good as I am sick of the issues.

If you are on the fence about buying one, trust me buy it the sound is amazing, but be prepared to swear at your speakers when they play up.

Minirig: small but mighty

Ordered a Minirig 2 from the Minirig site after reading great reviews, not wanting to waste money on cheap crap from China on Amazon & wanting to support a British brand. Could not be happier. It's small but mighty. Couldn't believe the depth & richness of volume. It's also sleek & minimal, & the charge lasts for hours. Communication was great from the company & shipping was fast. Highly recommended.

Great sound

Great sound, full depth, some issues with connecting but once you have it worked out it takes moments.

Very happy with the adaptability and usability of this minirig.

Sound good. Build Good. Bluetooth & charging not great.

This is a great little independent company, and I wish I could be more positive.

My impression is that they've worked hard on the sound, but that the engineering of the charging system and Bluetooth lets it down.

Virtually every portable consumer device should be using a USB-C connector for charging now, not a barrel connector.

Ideally USB PD (Power Delivery), or just BC (Battery Charging), or USB 3.0 - they all offer faster charging and more convenient charging.

Likewise the Bluetooth didn't seem to get on well with either my phone (Android 10), or my laptop (Thinkpad X1, Ubuntu 20.04). I could get them to work, but I had to fiddle every time to get them to work.

Frankly, the Minirig 3 electronics need updating to something a bit more sophisticated (probably a better Bluetooth chip) and a bit more up to date (a newer battery manager chip) - then they would have a great product.

Build quality "like a tank".
Sound "bold" (not exactly my taste, but AIUI you can tweak it through the phone app - I didn't try this).

Terrible! No bluetooth, short battery life, powerbank only with bulky extra lead.

An amazing driver, coupled with some terrible electronics.
The bluetooth DOES NOT WORK. Tried it on severall devices with results ranging from no connection at all to skipping, jumping mess.
Contactes customer service who said that this is a known issue, and suggested factory reset of each speaker every time you want to use them! (Even this does not fix the problems)
So, the ONLY way to use this produxt it with all the cables connecting them up. BUT, this only work if you unplug them each time and then reconnect in a specific order EVERY TIME!
To top things off, their claim of 80 hours battery life is completely ficticious. On testing they only achieved between 9 and 15 hours on low gain mode from fully charged. This was with them plugged in to a tv, NOT playing loud bass rich music.
Also, whilst it kay be possible to use them as a power bank, there is no usb jack on the devices! This means that you would need to take the long usb charging lead everywhere (along with all 3 3.5mm audio leads required to make them play anything)
As a result of all the above I requested to return them, but they are even avoiding this!
All in all, a terroble product which could have been so good....

Minirig has very poor Bluetooth capabilities

I have used a minirig for a year. Excellent sound. I bought a new PC which I connected Minirig too and iot worked for one day. Now I am unable to get the minirig to connect. Worse still, I am unable to remove minirig from the bluetooth devices. minirig has enbedded itself into my system.

Be VERY careful with this device, the bluetooth software is VERY VERY iffy. I feel like putting a hammer through the device because of the problems it has caused to my new PC.
