Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Evaluating 37 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many customers reported that the products, particularly the keys, were defective, incorrectly shaped, or simply did not work after being cut by the machines. People also frequently expressed dissatisfaction with the service, citing issues with malfunctioning machines, long wait times for keys to be shipped, and a general lack of support. Furthermore, many consumers found it impossible to obtain refunds for non-working keys or incorrect charges, leading to significant frustration. Some people also felt that the pricing was excessive, especially when compared to local hardware stores, and were charged for more copies than requested. However, a few other people also felt that the keys were half the price of hardware stores and worked perfectly, with one reviewer even receiving a prompt refund after a machine malfunction.

Bad cut, bad customer service

Had 3 keys cut for 12.99. None worked. Cut 3 more thinking maybe I didn’t insert them correctly and those 3 didn’t work. Customer service is nonexistent. They ignored my request for a refund which was only requested for 1 of the 2 transaction that produced bad keys.

I have 3 good reasons NOT to get a key…

I have 3 good reasons NOT to get a key at a MinuteKey kiosk. Reason #1: The key didn’t work. It wouldn't even go in the lock. Reason #2: Their refund policy is very cumbersome and rigid. They allow 30 for a refund. If you ask on day 31, they refuse the refund. Reason #3: You can get a key made at Ace Hardware or other places much cheaper. So Buyer Beware with MinuteKey.

Mike in Lehi UT quoted my teenaged son…

Mike in Lehi UT quoted my teenaged son $150 to replace his lost truck key (no fob). The doors were unlocked, took less than 20 minutes. When it came time to pay, my son gave him his debit card and charged him $338, and the key doesn’t work without jiggling vigorously. When I attempted to contact the company, the recorded message sent me down a rabbit hole, not ever getting to a live person. First time in my life leaving a negative review.

Key copy didnt work

Had a key made at one of the automated kiosks.
Did not work in the door of my home. Do not recommend. Not worth the time to chase a refund for $4

Smart Lock, A Bad Business to call

My husband and I were locked out of our house (long story) The only thing I had on me was my cell phone inside my pocket. I called Minute Key at 9:20pm on 9/1/22 ...I was told by the gentleman that I spoke with we would receive a call from a tech within 20 minutes, at 9:50 I called him back to report no one had called us. A woman answered the phone. She said they did not have anyone in our area and no one was coming. I ask why someone had not called us so we could get someone else. She told me again they did not have anyone in our area and no one would be coming. That made me very upset because I knew the later it was the more difficult it would be to get someone to come out. There is no excuse for that type of behavior in running a business. We were out with no way to get into the garage for our vehicle or to obtain money to go to a hotel or anything.
I called Access Unlimited and they were here in less than 20 minutes. The front door was a smart lock unable to be unlocked but finally they unlocked the two locks on the garage door. He then unlocked two locks to get from inside the garage to inside the house. They were very kind and the cost was only $50.00 even though it was a long time getting us back inside our home.
I will never use or ever call Minute Key again!!

I would like to give them a zero!

I would like to give them a zero!! The keys I purchased one got stuck in my front door and I couldn’t get it out. I went to Lowes and they told me I had to call the number on the kiosk. They girl carin was extremely rude and disrespectful. She told me I had to call a locksmith and pay them and they would need a picture and then they would let me know if they would pay and they would only pay for a simple extraction. She said that it would take eight to six weeks before I would get the check. The lock smith wanted a hundred and twenty dollars and I explained to another representative that I didn’t have it and she stated do understand the words from my mouth you pay and we reimburse that’s that. I will be contacting a source to expose this company and to get all of their kiosk pulled from each store they are placed in! They have a a prompt for a locksmith on the 800 number you call so they know these keys don’t work!! I have contacted our state representative and others. I advise anyone who have had problems with the hillman’s group to do the same. I did record the conversation with the unprofessional representatives.
