Customer service went out of their way to resolve an issue I had with a jacket. They were excellent.

Good products but needs to be more…
Good products but needs to be more transparent with refunds, especially when docking postage costs!!
Big disappointment
Bought a pair of Mountain Equipment, hiking boots with their own equivalent brand of Goretex. Absolute rubbish don’t touch then with a barge pool. They lost their waterproofing very quickly and were never breathable..
Also bought a footwear waterproofing spray. Absolute rubbish. I would’ve been better spraying them with water. Very disappointing and crazy waste of money..
Fab products and great customer service
I bought a pair of ibex pants fro. Mountain equipment sone time ago. My husband just lo es them and an added plus is they do look great on him. They are designed for mountaineering but the most mountaineering he does is climb the stairs!. He was gutted when after pulling at the belt the end tag came off. I emailed Mw to ask if I could buy one. They responded that day with a code that not only replaced the belt free but also took off any postage charges. Wrll done Mountain warehouse, we will be ordering more. First class products and customer service. Thank you Linda for great help

do not waste your money on these coats
do not waste your money on these coats, I bought 2 for my boys, had to return one because the logo had completely peeled off after 4 months, then when it rains my boys get soaked, and I mean soaked, when they take the dripping wet coat off their clothes underneath are wet, not even good in light rain, and im sorry but for £200 I expect it to be waterproof like it says it is, honestly the worst coats I've ever bought and I will never repurchase no matter what the teenage fashion is! I also have all proof of purchases, returns and pics of logo.
Bought a gortex jacket about 8 months…
Bought a gortex jacket about 8 months ago the my keys have pierced the jackett gone through I've emailed for repair and apparently a key is not advertised to be put in the pockett ?????????wow what else is a pockett for they should be robust enough to be able to put your keys in there then told we'll you could of had a repair but our workshop is shut so you can got to a third party nice !!the amount of money I've spent are well like most of these flash in the pan mountaineering brands soon go under with this attitude!
Fantastic customer service.
Fantastic customer service.
One of the wheels on my Mountain Equipment roller bag got damaged. I enquired about about a spare.
Very swift response and new wheel being sent out to me.
If only all companies followed Mountain Equipment's level of customer service.
Bad quality feathers after few years!
I bought a Xero line sleeping bag, payed about 280 euros and, despite they say that a sleeping bag should last 20 years and more, after few years of OCCASIONAL use (NOT abuse!), I realised that its feathers "disappeared" on most of the central sectors of the sleeping bag, gathering all of them on its sides! In this way my thermal insulation relied ONLY on the very thin layer of its fabric! At the end: NO insulation at all during fall/spring time! During these years of course I took care about it (as I use to do with ALL my outdoor equipment), I tried also to wash it once with Nik Wax proper products, in order to "renew" its feathers, but was useless: its feathers kept on being dislocated on the sides all over the bag! So it became pretty useless for its claimed temperature range, except (of course) for late spring/summer time, when even e piece of plastic is enough! Brand to forget!
ME have really lost the plot in recent years.
We were, and to some extent still are, fans of their gear, but:
The zip in a Senja down jacket failed outside warranty and ME said quite bluntly ‘We do not have a paid repair service’.
The firm they recommended to do the job - Scottish Mountain Gear - quoted £69 - 89, not including £10.20 return postage, or indeed the cost of sending it to them in the first place, which is absolutely out of the f——king question for a jacket that cost £160 brand new. Who in hell would consider up on £100 to repair a zip (not even a particularly high quality zip) economically viable?
Mountain Equipment used to have a very reasonable, very helpful customer services department, but now it appears to be run by BYT s who resent looking up from their phones to answer an email properly.
The sniffy, defensive corporate responses are hilarious examples of everything that is wrong with the U.K. in the early 21st century.
As an aside we’ve been buying ME equipment for over 20 years and it is VERY obvious that the quality of much of what they make compares VERY poorly with their older products.
Mostly it is lightweight because it is cheaply made and ungenerously filled, not because the materials are particularly advanced or high quality. Zips especially are not the well-engineered heavy duty grade one sees, for instance, on RAB jackets.
Really, REALLY disappointed.
Not convinced it is worth the money
I used to do a lot of trekking and climbing and have spent a lot of money on Mountain Equipment clothing over the years. Gore-tex jackets, trousers, sleeping bags, t-shirts, fleeces, gloves, etc... While some of the products (down sleeping bags, wet & dry bags, stitched fleeces) more than live up to the reputation. Other more innovative clothing products are most definitely falling short and in some cases falling apart. I have gloves where the fabric has broken down (after being worn once), stretch cut trousers where the stitching runs and they fall apart (after being worn a couple of times), jackets where the velcro closure tabs on the sleeves peel away from the upper tab and other jackets where the bonded seams have delaminated. The warranty team don't want to help with anything more than a few years old which is a real shame. They use to claim that their range of products had a "no questions asked" warranty policy, but this just isn't true. They simply say no, not our problem.
Not “Highly Water Resistant”!
I bought a Lightline Jacket which is described as “highly water resistant” yet my jacket let water in through the shoulder seams in light showers. It is still being sold with this description. I contacted customer services who said it wasn’t water resistant. Really?
The jacket is good in cold dry weather but I bought it due to the water resistant statement. I will never buy another Mountain Equipment product.
Repair
What a fantastic company, my son fell off his bike ripping his brand new lightline jacket. I contacted mountain equipment and after a few emails they asked me to send the coat back to them and they would repair it free of charge. I was fully prepared to cough up for the repair as it was an accident and not a fault with the coat. The repair is a visible patch of the same material but you can hardly see it. The coat was returned within a week. I can’t thank mountain equipment enough for the fantastic service and helpful staff.
Great aftersales experience
I had an issue with my Mountain Equipment Tupilak jacket - the hood volume cord had become disconnected from the hood as the taping had failed.
My email was quickly responded to with clear instructions and the repair was carried out very quickly. Whole process took less than a week which I think is excellent after sales customer service.
I have numerous ME products and this is the first warranty return I’ve needed which is impressive itself.
Shakedry repairs 👍
I unfortunately slipped on my backside and whilst braking my fall I scuffed and ripped a small hole on sleeve of my shakedry jacket. To say I was gutted would be an understatement. So I contacted mountain equipment repairs service and told them the problem plus a couple of pics to show the damage. They contacted me back straight away with all the details I needed to send my jacket for repairs. They emailed me when they received the jacket and said it would be fixed with in two weeks because they where very busy. But it was less than a week before I received my jacket back. The repair is excellent and not noticeable 👍. Jacket was still under warranty so no charge for the repair either. Hopefully I won't need to use the repair service again but if I do I'll have no qualms about sending my gear to mountain equipment.
Thanks a bunch
Jacket Broke but now replaced
My Makalu Men's Jacket zip broke irrecoverably after 3 wears / 2 weeks after buying.
Update: issued a new jacket following sending the coat to them for fixing
Mountain Equipment Stuff
I recently bought a Mountain Equipment light waterproof jacket and a fleece. I paid more than I am used to for this type of clothing. I am pleased with the style, fit, function and colours but I am disappointed with the quality of the fleece. Despite very light casual use (certainly nothing close to mountaineering), a seam has opened up under the arm. Given the price, this is unexpected and unwelcome.
So impressed with Mountain Equipment
So impressed with Mountain Equipment! I don't often write reviews, but the customer service I received made me want to give credit where it's due.
I'm on my 3rd Mountain Equipment (ME) jacket now and they've just got better and better. The first was good, I've had a softshell for years which is still going strong and when I upgraded to the Gore-Tex Pro hardshell (Shivling) it was a whole new level. Still 100% waterproof after countless storms, and the fabric is still robust despite being screwed up in a bag, battered by storms and dragged around Scotland. Despite the durability, it's more breathable than any jacket I've ever owned. Great fit too.
I had a slight issue with the internal cord in the hood, but they fixed it quickly and neatly and I now fully expect to get many more years of use from it.
Generally very impressed with ME as a company. I only invest in gear which has been certified by FAIR WEAR and ME are a leader in the field. Social justice is paramount to me, so to have an ethical company, making decent waterproof jackets with excellent customer service... what's not to love?
I have had a 140L Mountain Equipment…
I have had a 140L Mountain Equipment kitbag for many years, way beyond the 3 year guarantee period offered by Cotswold Outdoor where it was purchased. It easily swallows my ski gear including helmet and boots and enough clothing for a week long ski trip and comes in under the 23Kg wt limit for most airlines. Recently one of the plastic tyres on the bag wheels split. Customer services were very helpful and supplied 2 new bag wheels free of charge. Great service.
Great Customer Service
My wife and I have purchased several Mountain Equipment products over the years. We're currently both wearing their Goretex jackets and as always we're very pleased with the build quality and waterproofing. My wife's jacket developed areas of delamination on the sleeves at the elbow joint where they continually bend. Her jacket has three layer Goretex Pro, so a superior quality jacket. I contacted Mountain Equipment to report the issue and explained that the jacket had light use but was over four years old. Apart from this issue it looked as new. In my opinion the issue lay with the Goretex, not Mountain Equipment themselves as every other aspect of the jacket was perfect.
After exchanging Emails, they asked if I could return the jacket for inspection. I did but wasn't overly hopeful that they could do anything with it. Yesterday, a couple of weeks later, I received an Email offering a new jacket (£450 on their website) for free! Following assessment they had decided to replace it for me. Only issue I've ever had with their products and was handled really well. I and my wife will continue to be loyal customers going forward. Exceptional Customer Service! Can't ask for more from a manufacturer.
Amazing Customer Service
I wear a lot of Mountain Equipment gear and have always found it first class and great value. Recently my three year old Changabang jacket starting soaking a bit of water into the bottom of the sleeves so I returned it for repair. Given the age of the jacket I expected to pay for it to be fixed, but no, without any debate Mountain Equipment identified a possible manufacturing fault and simply replaced the jacket. Things sometimes go wrong and despite the best quality controls, no product is perfect all of the time so for me great customer service is how a company deals with these blips and in this instance my experience was brilliant. What a great company !
another BUDGET brand overcharging the customer!
I used to think they were ok at first, I considered them a budget brand that was half decent for the price, but now they think they are a top brand and charge top brand prices, but there is no way they are anywhere near the quality or brands like RAB or Patagonia.. it’s just CRAZY
