At the end of the first month(Aug 2026), I was invoiced R750, three times the R250 per month I was quoted and agreed to. On my most recent call, on 14 Sept 2026, an MTN agent advised that I now owe M... See more

DONT TAKE THE MTN CONTRACT !!
Terrible service on their Home 5G service with poor quality ZTE 5G modems!
Try to get support for defective modems - they will leave you down for days and the shops dont keep modem stock.
If you order online, the franchise shops are not interested in you as they did not make money on the transaction.
DONT TAKE THE HOME INTERNET SERVICE. It is plagued with support issues and event account debits on your account.
MTN support is bad !!
MTN Greenstone
MTN Greenstone — Pressured Me Into Porting, No Contract, No Handset, No Service
I switched from Vodacom to MTN after being let down by Vodacom's customer service. I'm now regretting that decision entirely.
On 4 July I went into the MTN Greenstone branch to sign up for a contract with a new handset. The consultant told me the phone I wanted was out of stock and I'd have to wait — but he was very persistent that I should port my number from Vodacom to MTN first, and that once the port went through he could log an application to order the handset in.
Against my better judgement, I agreed and ported my number. To be clear: I have not signed a contract. There is no agreement in place. MTN has my number and I have nothing.
Since the port, my Honor 7XD is asking for an NCK code and I have no service at all. I can make voice calls and nothing else — no data, no functioning line.
On 16 July I left work early to sort this out and had to phone MTN from my mother's phone, because my own is effectively useless. The consultant I dealt with at the Greenstone branch was rude and completely unhelpful. She did not know what an NCK is. She made no attempt to find out. I work in IT and was about to suggest a troubleshooting step we could try, and she wasn't interested in hearing it — she was clearly just rushing to end the call.
With no thanks to MTN, I have had to research the problem myself on the internet and work out how to resolve it without any assistance from them. If a customer with an IT background has to self-diagnose a porting issue because your own staff can't, that says everything about the level of service here.
So the position I'm in: nearly three weeks after MTN pushed me into porting my number, there's no signed contract, no handset, my phone won't take the network, and the staff can't or won't explain the problem, let alone fix it.
What I want:
My line restored to full working service, or a clear explanation of the NCK issue and how it gets resolved.
A firm answer on the handset — stock date or a written alternative.
Someone competent to contact me who can actually action this, not a scripted brush-off.
I left Vodacom because of poor service. Three weeks in and I'm seriously reconsidering doing business with you at all.
😡😡😡😡
I made an eftpayment to MTN for my WiFi as requested, they processed a debit order as well and now I'm having issues with my refund, they're requesting a bank statement which is not genenerated by the bank as yet for the current date, pdf proof of payment or transaction history is not enough for them, You confirmed that you can see the payment I made to you but refusing to refund my money. Unacceptable. And further more
Your Case BO0216164 is now closed. No assistance.
Dear MTN,
Dear MTN,
Terrible customer experience from MTN South Africa. They emailed me saying they will debit me in July for a contract I already communicated to close in May.
Furthermore, when I queried this, your employee was unable to provide a clear explanation as to why I am being charged for both the cancellation and a package from which I do not receive full benefits. This lack of clarity and accountability is unacceptable.
MTN RUINED MY LIFE 😡
*⭐☆☆☆☆ 1-Star Review*
I have never experienced customer service this poor.
MTN switched off my internet after a troubleshooting session on 12 July 2026, and since then I have had no internet access despite having 140 GB of data and an account that is fully paid.
To try to resolve the issue I have:
* Visited 3 MTN branches.
* Purchased a new SIM card for R150 because MTN told me to.
* Called customer support more than 5 times.
* Travelled over 800 km looking for assistance.
* Had multiple escalations opened with no meaningful feedback.
Every interaction ends with the same generic troubleshooting instead of someone actually fixing the problem. MTN has never been able to explain why my SIM can register on the network but cannot access the internet.
This has cost me time, money, fuel, leave from work, and business opportunities. Paying for a service that MTN has failed to provide is unacceptable.
At this point, I have lost confidence in MTN. I expect a full refund for the period I have been without service and cancellation of my contract without penalties due to MTN’s failure to deliver what I am paying for.
I cannot recommend MTN to anyone based on this experience.
MTN is such a scam-stealing money!
MTN is such a scam. After cancelling my phone contract, I was told I had to pay approximately R9 000 for the phone, otherwise I would be blacklisted. I paid the amount requested and asked for written confirmation that the contract had been cancelled. I was told they could not provide this and that I would have to phone in and request a statement.
After making the payment, I was assured that I no longer owed anything. However, the following month, the phone insurance (which was part of the cancelled contract) was still being deducted from my bank account.
After numerous attempts to resolve the issue, I had a family member visit the main MTN office on my behalf. They were initially refused assistance because they were not the account holder. After I sent written permission authorising them to act on my behalf, they were finally helped and MTN confirmed that the contract would be closed.
Despite this, MTN is still deducting money from my bank account through a debit order.
This has been an extremely frustrating experience. The lack of communication, poor handling of cancellations, and repeated incorrect information given by employees make it feel like customers’ money is being taken without proper accountability. Instead of resolving issues, the blame is passed between employees while customers are left to deal with the consequences.
They are the worst in assisting with…
They are the worst in assisting with queries, made my 78 year old wheelchair bound mom paid over R6,000 for purchases on her account, which she was not aware of and wasn't done by her.
She has never defaulted any payments in her life, but still they handed her over and discontinued her service. Even their fraud account refused to assist. Absolutely horrific and after all that, they never inflicted the actual debit order and wants to hand her over and cut her service again?? No respect or help for the elderly, I'm deeply disappointed in MTN South Africa.
Pathetic service MTN Eastgate
Vistied MTN Eastgate on 10 July 2026 to upgrade a business contract as MTN advised my current ce will lose the promotiional option at the end of July 2026. Firstly I am SO NOT IMPRESSED that I had to do personal biometrics for a Company contract upgrade which I have had since 1991. @ no stage was I told this is a requirement which is TOTALLY RIDICULOUS. What happened to the Protection of Personal Information and at what point is personal biometric screening a requirement for a company contract upgrade. One week later I have no feedback despite being assured the information would be emailed to me. I was told it wotaje 3 to 4 days to process the upgrade which is pathetic in view of modern technology, processing an upgrade online could be done in a couple of hours especially if it is contract upgrade, for ia long standing business client in excess of thirty years with MTN. One week later NOTHING HEARD FROM MTN EASTGATE OR MTN PERIOD.
This is such pathetic service and why?
Some staff members are rude
Some staff members are rude. I have so far talked to two rude customer care staff members
Absolutely shocked by the service I’ve…
Absolutely shocked by the service I’ve received from MTN.
My contract cancellation was confirmed, yet the cancellation was later rejected internally and I was still billed after the cancellation date.
I’ve now had to spend time following up and disputing charges that should never have been processed in the first place.
MTN, this needs to be resolved urgently and the incorrect billing must be refunded. This is not acceptable customer service.
Harrased and threatened but MTN delivery driver
I have been harrased and threatened and refused delivery of a package by a delivery driver from MTN for the past 6 days.
Today he call me crazy and sent a naked photo laughing at me. Saying he will deliver when he feels like it.
Fails Promises and bad service
I am extremely disappointed with the service I have received from MTN.
When I took out my contract, my intention was to get a Samsung device. Unfortunately, I was told there was no stock available at the time and was offered a Huawei instead. I made it absolutely clear that I did not want a Huawei device, but I was assured that I would be able to change my handset at a later stage. Based on that assurance, I agreed to proceed with the contract.
By January 2027, I will have had this contract for 24 months. Today, I contacted MTN Sales Support to discuss upgrading to the Samsung device that I wanted from the very beginning. I wasn't asking for anything unreasonable—I am even willing to return my current Huawei device and pay the additional cost for a Samsung.
Instead of receiving assistance, I was simply told that MTN could not help me. To make matters even worse, when I tried to explain my frustration and dissatisfaction, the consultant abruptly ended the call. Being disconnected while trying to resolve an issue is completely unacceptable and demonstrates a shocking lack of customer service.
I feel misled by the promises that were made when I signed my contract. Had I been told that I would never be able to switch to the device I actually wanted, I would have seriously reconsidered taking out the contract in the first place.
As a loyal customer, I expected far better treatment. Instead, I have been left feeling ignored, dismissed, and incredibly frustrated. It is disappointing that MTN seems more interested in signing customers up than honouring the expectations that are created during the sales process.
All I want is a Samsung device—the phone I originally wanted—and I am prepared to pay the difference if necessary. I don't believe that is an unreasonable request after 24 months of being a paying customer.
This entire experience has been deeply frustrating and has significantly damaged my confidence in MTN's customer service. I sincerely hope someone from MTN takes ownership of this matter and contacts me with a fair solution, because the service I received today was nothing short of appalling.

MTN new contracts warning
Almost 3 weeks ago now on 24 June 2026 I got a call from a Talksure agent selling a new contract through MTN. I went through the entire process and was happy to enter a new contract. Then it all started going wrong. Shortly after, in the middle of a call to my father my phone cut off. Tried calling back and call failed. Tried calling other numbers and call failed to all networks. Unable to receive calls either. So I thought that was strange but got a hold of MTN through my wife's phone and they assured me within 24 hours I would be reconnected and that it was a changeover to the new contract causing this. I thought its weird and bad for your business that you would have a system that stops your client from using your services which they pay for. Low and behold still to this day weeks later, after contacting them through their whatsapp service on numerous occasions, eventually getting through the bot prompts and to an agent all the various procedures they asked me to do did not resolve the problem. They would then end the chat without resolving the issue and tell me to email customer care or go into a store. I duly did that to be told they can't assist me and they also can't now cancel the new contract for which they will now expect me to pay for but can't deliver a mobile phone service! I can't get hold of anyone at Talksure either. I can't call anyone. I have now become so fed up I have demanded they cancel the contract which is still within cooling off period. It is virtually impossible to get it done! I've contacted them through whatsapp, call direct to 083135, email and I just get shifted from retentions team to collections team with no one resolving the issue at all. Wasting my time contacting them over and over to try get this resolved. The most ridiculous part is I get a response today saying they can't get through to my number and asking what time they can call back!!! I mean really! Have you read even 1 line of my email about my issue! Absolutely absurd! And no doubt they will continue to expect me to pay for a service they can't deliver! Be warned, its a nightmare I am going through
Mtn uses Mondo Customer Services to do…
Mtn uses Mondo Customer Services to do their sales and renew contracts. The sales person renewed my 2 month contract two months before the time so I have been paying for 2 phones. I have been renewing my contract every two years for about 13 years in the same way so nothing is new except this time the salesman decided to renew my contract two month before the time and also made the decision what phone I must take when all my latest phones have been Samsung. Now I have an Honor which I thought was a Samsung model. What an inconvenience. When I lodged a complaint they reviewed my conversation with the salesman and concluded that my investigation with them is deemed invalid.
Gives Mtn a bad name.
MTN CLUELESS
I did cancel my MTN wifi contract in February 2026, received a final notice in May 2026 that R352.00 is payable, paid it. Was told everything is cancelled. Now July 2026 I receive a sms that R20.63 is payable. Where the hell do they get this. MTN is corrupt and are stealing innocent citizens money. I gave back there router with box. Staff at MTN Greenacres, Gqeberha, Eastern Cape. Pathetic to say the least. They rather give you a number then you must explain to retention. Talk about dumb people. Must be MTN CLUELESS.
The worst customer service ever
The worst customer service ever. Can’t even handle complaints properly.
I switched my MTN price plan after…
I switched my MTN price plan after noticing a data offer and ended up losing roughly 460–500 paid voice minutes.
The issue was never that MTN has a migration policy. The concern was the lack of clear communication.
An MTN representative confirmed in writing that the warning was not shown during tariff migration because it would occupy screen space. Even with that acknowledgment, MTN declined to restore the lost minutes.
What makes the situation even more disappointing is that the MTN app now presents a clear warning before customers change price plans.
If customers receive a warning today, why was the same information not provided before paid-for services were lost?
