Instead of cutting down a tree every year, we thought we'd opt for a greener solution: Muddy Trowel offers a Christmas tree you can order that arrives in a pot, which you can keep inside in December, and outside the rest of the year.

To start with, the tree was smaller than expected. It advertised 5-5.5 feet, and was on the small side of that, but the bulk of the height is made up of a tall pot and stem, and one long spike at the top. The bulk of the tree is actually pretty short and squat, and not really much of a Christmas tree shape.

Our hopes were to have a tree that would stay healthy and green, and grow a bit each year. They provided plenty of guides on how to care for the tree, and we've followed these instructions carefully.

However, after just one summer, many of the branches turned brown and lost all their needles, including at the top and on all sides—there is no angle that this tree looks good from.

We contacted Muddy Trowel, and they had us provide a bunch of pictures and information about the light, shelter, rainfall, watering schedule, and compost, and they weren't able to provide any insight on why anything would have gone wrong, but simply said that they don't guarantee their plants and so it's our problem now.

Buyer beware, the Christmas tree option might seem like a good idea, but don't order from Muddy Trowel. Their trees are sub par quality and they don't want to help you after the fact!

Really love this company! The plants were of such a high quality, they completely exceeded expectations. The packaging was also very minimal and recyclable which I appreciated. I even requested a specific delivery date that they accommodated with no hassle, and provided friendly and helpful communication.
Would highly recommend as the best company I have bought plants from.

Got some window boxes and hanging baskets from Muddy Trowel. The plants were healthy and I found the information cards very useful. The order was processed pretty fast and the delivery was great. I will buy plants from them again.

I am a new to gardening and was happy to buy the plants from Muddy Trowel after reading all the positive reviews. The plants were really good but the customer service wasn’t as great. Had to return the whole order and had issues with collection date. Now waiting for the refund to be processed.
If you’re an experienced gardener, then it’s the best place to shop for plants but not for beginners like myself.
