We are currently on our 3rd Eddi, which some might wonder at. Actually, this is another good story of customer support. Whilst not being the cheapest power diverter on the market, this is a well constructed product from a company that does not "rest on its laurels". The first unit was actually fitted to our last house and may still be working for all I know. The unit we bought here in our present home was one with the single aerial on top which did malfunction but was replaced by an updated twin aerial unit which has since functioned perfectly.

We had an Eddie installalled as part of our Viessmann heat pump system. When we queried a synchronisation issue we discovered the Eddie was not compatible with our heat pump. The Eddie was removed & the cost was refunded. However, we cannot heat the hot water using the electric heater which was why the Eddie was installed. We have complained to installers - Sustain & Viessmann but no response & no resolution of how we can activate the electrical hot water heater. We experienced a number of serious problems with our heat pump installation - a sad reflection on the heat pump indusrty - a serious lack of trained & experienced technicians.

The unit can remotely trigger the electric heating of one or two hot water storage tanks with immersion elements. You can set it to (default) send any excess energy generated from your solar panels BEFORE charging up your home battery (and this isn't a bad 'set and forget' mode, especially for summer months). However in less than great solar generation day, you might be generating LESS than 1/10th of the power from your solar panels vs a very sunny day. Because The eddi can send as little as about 0.3kW to the immersion element (a tenth of the power of our kettle) upto over 3.0kw on a very sunny day. Due to this - at the low power settings, it is going to take forever to very slowly increase your stored hot water temperature. Also the battery is not getting (even trickle) charged either. So (not just on terrible cloudy days) ... Instead I will, via the WiFi / 4G n 5G connected MyEnergi app, make sure the eddi is in STOPPED mode. Any excess energy will all go to my home battery FIRST (and crucially, even when full, will NOT wastefully flow BACK from the battery to then warm the water in my tank), draining my battery and meaning I might get little or zero evening off-grid power. So MANUALLY keeping control of the eddi has been my fave use mode. As soon as the weather is continuing to get BETTER vs worse & when and IF my battery is fairly full by now ... I will remotely 'wake up' my eddi and let it top up my hot water. Very often I will put my gas boiler on for 1 hour before bed (or in the day) for upto 1 hr only, more so if solar generation is very poor. This will mean that when I do allow the eddi to heat the water, it is 'topping it up' to 60°C from at least fairly 'warm'. This way, even at 0.3W to moderately faster, say 1.6kW rate ... it is more likely to get near tonthe max water temp again. If it hits the max set 60°C, the eddi will stop heating and declare that max water temp has been reached. With the exception of getting 1 or more extra home batteries... this device remains good value for money (longterm). I love being able to control it remotely when I am out with my phone anywhere with mobile data or WiFi connectivity & knowing that I am not uncessarily putting excess solar generation back to the grid, after reaching my 100% battery status. When (soon hopefully 😄😭) we get into UK 'sunny all day' weather for weeks on end ... I'll put eddi back into 'auto heat my hot water 1st' mode again 😃

had to get the first one replaced as not working properly. New replacement in and now dropping internet not able to activate boost from phone. When working properly its a good system but will probably look to replace this with a different product cause not worth the hassle

Whilst a boost window is programmable, over riding the solar surplus, there is no way to have a "do nothing window" which would be ideal for Octopus flux users who do a force discharge of their batteries between 4pm and 7pm.

Just had this installed with solar panels. Great piece of equipment. It is very reactive and gives upto date information via the Eddi onscreen panel or alternatively by using the associated App. The App makes tracking of information very simple and accurate. So far, so good. Very happy.
