Two Cherry tries NOT Viable

I bought two cherry trees to commemorate the death of two people in my family. Neither tree lived. I took very good care of them looking after them rather carefully. I informed Nature Hill they first were struggling then died the following early spring, kept them up to date that they were not doing well early one, sent photos, and spoke with them multiple times. One died first then the other. They refused to replace them. It clearly was the tree that was not viable or healthy. And they refused any help, in the end after way to much back and forth on my park they offered and slight discount on a future purchase of the same trees I just purchased. I have purchased from the arbour foundation many times. Never once had a problem with their tree offerings (although smaller). Nature hills was not responsible or professional in standing behind their product.

Almost purchased 4 hydrangias

Almost purchased 4 hydrangias. Web page indicated BOGO. The website page for the hydrangias indicated BOGO. The checkout page gave no indication of BOGO. Called naturehils.com. person on phone looked. He found no indication of BOSO. Said the offer probably expired and w I uld not honor the offer. Asked for the supervisor and manager. In both cases he stated they we re out. No one avaliable to listen. I cancelled the order and found a better deal [with didcounts] from another retailer. Watchout.

What a scam

I ordered a tree. It came looking half dead. I planted right away. It never survived. I then asked for refund. They refused to offer it, claiming I did not contact them within 3 days of receiving the tree. Then I tried to claim a Growing guarantee which is supposed give you 50% off if you order the tree again. They did give me 50% off. But then they claimed by doing that, I am no longer qualified for regular shipping. The new shipping charge is so much higher that I am actually not saving any money by taking the 50% off. What a scam!

Bought two trees both smaller than…

Bought two trees both smaller than described. One is seriously lopsided as opposed to some shaped, I called them they declined my request for exchange. Th either tree has been dying ever since it arrived 9 month ago and now is nearly dead with just a tiny bit of breath as only main trunk seems to be struggling to live with all other branches turning black. Called them, they told me to do scrat ch test on the bottom of the mail trunk!! Such BS. The tree only gotten smaller even since it arrived. It has no leaves on it and we are at the end of summer. Believe or not, I bought 1 year warrantee and they are making it like hell to exchange for the dying tree!!! Will not give them any business ever again!

Terrible customer service

Very very poor customer service!!! I had to call 5 times before I received a replacement for the previous tree I purchased that died…. The value amount was half of what I paid to be applied to a new tree and I couldn’t use the $10.00 coupon they sent to me…Every nursery that I have used has always given me the full amount that I paid to apply to a new order… I will never order from Nature Hills again!!! What a fiasco!!! Marie

My BBB Complaint- Nature Hills Scammed Me

My BBB Complaint:
4/12/24-Placed order (total $142.86)-Ordered 2 Butterfly Bushes & 1 Milkweed.
The 2 Butterfly bushes arrived DISEASED on 4/17.Multiple red/brown spotting/yellow leaves covering both.I called company 1 hour of delivery to file complaint & sent multiple pictures to prove poor diseased condition.I want to return diseased plants,& want a refund. They refused to take plants OR refund.I spoke to fellow Master Gardeners & a Horticulturist at County Ext office same day I got plants-showed plants in person. All agreed plants have contagious fungus, & its not rotting because of 'water on leaves' as Nature Hills horticulturist stated.

Several emails/calls for 3 weeks-they refuse to replace or refund. They said all plants cut to soil level in the spring for new growth before shipping, but also said the spots on yellow leaves is from summer/fall 2023,& spots/yellow leaves caused from water getting on the leaves back then..That is a lie.(WATER DOESN'T KILL PLANTS & CAUSE DISEASE!) Said nothing is wrong per their Horticulturist who wont talk to me. 2 different stories, neither make sense.Plants are approx 2-3", meaning NO leaves from last year for water to cause disease. Each plant has 3 twigs, and not 2-3 years old they claim on their website. They stone walled me-refused resolution.I tried almost 3 wks for resolution/refund.They wont talk to me.I cancelled Milkweed plant before shipment. They said 12 days for refund for the Milkweed.I called back 2 wks later because I hadnt received Milkweed refund. They said refund for Milkweed completed on 4/29. (I called 5/2.) They said my bank isnt processing refund,& not their problem.Said I need to call my bank & ask for refund to be released. My bank confirmed NO REFUND. Nature Hills refunded me eventually on 5/7 for the Milkweed. I paid $49.99, they refunded me $42.22. they demanded I pay 'restocking fee' for the Milkweed that was never pulled/shipped.Its another way to steal more money. They owe me $100.64 for the 2 diseased butterfly plants.
Follow up- 5/28/24- went to back- trying to get a payment reverse. Talked to Nature Hills again, they laugh at me on the phone , said I am wasting time calling. I said pants are dead, demanded warranty of new replacements. They said NO! So zero resolution, zero attempt to make this right- they absolutely do not care, I encourage everyone to contact the Nebraska State attorneys general office as I am doing now to report this, so many people file BBB complaints, which does nothing, legal action should be taken against the scammer company, so the states attorney generals office (phone # 402-471-2682) can look into this company for fraud at no charge to the person filing the complaint! If enough people file a claim with the attorney generals office for the state of Nebraska at the phone number, listed above… Legal action can be taken against nature, hills at no cost to us for filing!
Nature Hills needs to be accountable for lying and stealing and scamming customers, read the dozens of negative reviews! Check out the F writing at BBB, including my complaint.

Replacement guarantee is a joke

Cautionary Tale:
Let me share my recent experience. The replacement guarantee is not what you might think. When 6 out of the 10 privets I purchased died, I was informed I could only receive replacements on per plant basis, i.e. 1 new plant for each 1 plant that died (e.g. I cannot just use 6 plants amount to purchase 1 plant, for example). Additionally, you never can get reimbursed for more than 50% of the cost of the new plant. However, it is not the end. They require all replacement orders to be placed ONLY over the phone. But here's the kicker: the price of the shipping in the email confirmation I received the next day was different from what I was told on a phone. Apparently, for warranty claims, they apply inflated shipping rates, resulting in SIGNIFICANTLY HIGHER shipping costs, it makes no economic sense to use this warranty in this form. When I promptly requested to cancel my replacement order upon noticing the discrepancy (immediately after receiving the email), they flatly refused, claiming that I had already been charged and could only receive an 80% refund, which after I protested they increased to 90%. CUSTOMERS BEWARE!

Don't buy their overpriced plants - they don't stand behind them!!!

Ordered 3 plants - received 2 bareroot, one looked very suspect but was told that was normal and they would be fine. Planted the 2 plants and within weeks one was budding but the suspect plant still looked 'suspect'. Received the 3rd plant about a month later. Planted it as well and it is beautiful. The 'suspect' plant still looks dead for which I paid $70.00. I contacted nursery again today. They asked that I send a picture and check for viability. Then the kicker; they told me if the plant was dead would have to pay another 35.00, to replace the plant. That is $105.00 for a bare root plant - THEY ARE OUT TO TAKE YOUR MONEY! DON'T BUY FROM THEM!!!

They send dead plants, accuse you of lying

I bought trees and shrubs from them for over 2 years. Never had a problem...until one plant arrived dried up and dead. I reported it to them within a week after ANOTHER arrived and we could compare to what they should look like. I pointed this out to them... they said, "just keep watering" and after two more weeks, nothing changed.
Then... they accused me of lying after I sent them a photo from the VERY DAY the dead plant arrived. They said they didn't believe it.
So... here is the review for this horrible company who makes accusations, they don't believe data, and all because they sent a DEAD plant. Irresponsible.
It's all good until you tell them there is a problem with a plant they sent --- they are in complete denial and blame the customer. They will give you runaround after runaround... mentioning you have only 3 days to tell them something is wrong.
They accuse you of lying when you send a photo from the SAME DAY the dead plant arrived.
They will not stand behind what they send...they just want their money.
I recommend avoiding Nature Hills Nursery at all costs. There are better out there (and we switched).

I ordered 4 plants, one is viable, one has not arived, and the other two are a grave disappointment

I ordered two plants on sale ad two plants not on sale. The 2for1 sale plants ... one is healthy the other I am nursing and will most likely make it... two are dying. When I sent pictures of the dying plants, I got a snarky nasty note back that made it sound like I had done something wrong after the plants arrived. I can revive practically anything, I haven't had a plant die on me for decades. I don't think I can say these two ferns... and they don't care.
I gave them a one because one of the non-sale plants came and looks good. I gave them a one, because one of the other non-sale plants has NOT arrived yet and I will have NO benefit or refund, from the two sale plants. Just snarky remarks. Won't shop there ever again.

TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE WITH NATURE HILLS

After several weeks of not receiving my order, I asked to cancel it as it was still in "processing" and I wanted to get plants in the ground. I was told there is a 20% fee for canceling which I still cannot find in any fine print of ordering so it must be well buried. They said they were waiting until it was warmer to ship, which is also not clearly listed anywhere on the description of the product. So I waited another full 2 weeks to receive, well after we were not having any frosts predicted. Just received the dwarf boxwoods today and for $50.00 each they are only just slightly bigger than a can of diet coke. They also arrived with loose bags around the pots so all the dirt was all over the box and none in with the roots. Ugh. So very disappointing. If I could give 0 stars, I would!

Deplorable company

Ordered a Lambert Cherry tree on 5/4/23. Delivery was delayed several weeks. Upon inquiry, customer service informed me that delivery was delayed because they were waiting on trees to become more established prior to shipment. Tree finally arrived on 6/6/23 in very poor condition. Leaves were completely wilted on arrival. It was potted in very course, poorly moisture retentive media. Cursory exploration of roots revealed poor development. Customer service was contacted again reporting the poor condition of the tree on arrival. I was advised to water the tree by immersing the pot in a bucket water. This resulted in limited improvement of the wilted leaves, but severe wilting recurred within 24 hours. Contacted customer service again and was advised to continue daily immersion watering. When I expressed concern about the longterm viability of the tree, customer service advised it was guaranteed for a year. Thus began many weeks of intensive care involving daily watering with limited improvement. I maintained contact with customer service throughout this period. Eventually, I repotted the tree into a more moisture retentive media. During repotting, it was clear how little healthy root mass the tree actually had. Repotting helped significantly, but it was mid to late July before the tree was healthy enough and able to maintain reasonable enough leaf turgor between waterings that it could be planted in the orchard. Ongoing extra care and watering throughout the growing season produced no visible new growth. Due to its poor condition on arrival and inability to sufficiently establish itself over the summer, the tree died over the winter. I planted a dozen other fruit trees which were healthy on arrival (from other sources) last spring in the same orchard and all are thriving. Upon contacting Nature Hills this spring to report the loss, despite well-documented issues from the start, they are now refusing to reimburse my purchase. They will only offer a 50% credit towards purchase of a new tree and I would have to pay for shipping. Even worse, they don't even have Lambert cherries in stock this season. I've already replaced the Lambert cherry from another nursery and it was half the cost I paid Nature Hills last spring anyway. I have never purchased trees from any other professional organization that didn't replace or refund my purchase immediately upon notification when there was a problem on delivery. Heed this warning and buy elsewhere! Deceitful customer service and warranty policies.

Reply from Nature Hills Nursery

Hello Heather - The item you ordered stated "Ships in May 2023 (weather permitting)" on our site and on your confirmation when you ordered it on 5/4/23. It was pulled for shipping on 5/30/23 and quality inspected. It was picked up by FedEx on 6/1/23 and delivered on 6/6/23. You emailed on 6/6/23 when it arrived with concerns about some loose dirt and wilting. We advised via email on the next day 6/7/23 to soak the plant and then plant/install is soon after a good soaking. 8 days later on 6/15/23 you reached out stating it still had not been planted because the area you wanted to plant it in only gets watered 1x a week (which is not enough for newly installed plants of any kind). That same day we advised that the plant would require (as all transplants do) regular moisture monitoring as it acclimates. We urged to have it planted. The next time we heard from you was on 4/1/24 (which was 291 days later) stating the plant was dead. We asked for a viability test to be done, you provided and we explained today, 4/3 your standard warranty options (as you had elected not to get extended coverage). This plant should have been soaked well upon receipt, planted as soon as possible and regularly monitored for soil moisture and watered as needed when soil was dry. Leaving it in the pot to dry out day after day is not recommended and why we won't simply reship a free item. The soil medium intentionally does not retain water for long periods of time due to plants getting root rot if left in watery soils too long. With proper care/feeding this plant should have performed nicely. Thank you.

The worst and expensive!

The worst and the the most expensive store to buy plants. Warranty is a gimmick to get you to buy another plant at high prices. The tree took over 3 months to ship & when it arrived it was half dead & ended up dying shortly after planting it. Customer service didn’t help at all, not only do they not cover or honor shipping on expensive plants - they raise it!

Update:

Hello Sales representative. First of all how unprofessional of you to use customer names assuming you only have one disappointed customer. Yes, you take money upfront, don’t ship product for 3-4 month & don’t bother to provide any updates when the trees ship, I had to reach out to you because it’s been so long after I paid I almost forgot that I had ordered a tree from yall. See, other companies do that, they care about their customers, they care about the health of their trees and they follow up.

Yes, I didn’t buy the $9.99 tree insurance because I already paid over $100 on the tiny tree & they offered a complementary one year warranty. The insurance isn’t typically needed, if the carrier damages product they will cover the product, and with your company the “insurance” is another gimmick. Plus i don’t recall you offering it last year.

Ok here’s the recap on their 50% “standard” (whatever that means) guarantee within one year of purchase. First of all, they made me do a scratch test with photos of the dead tree, understandable, which I provided, even though I included pictures with my original email to them. Of course waste of time once again, jumping through hoops to get me to spend more money.

Just for your info - I am a gardener, we’ve planted many many trees, so I know how to care for trees & plants, NOT a newbie.

When I asked about my options here is what they said (of course I got several “Your email is not deliverable.******** DO NOT REPLY ********” messages until someone finally responded)

“Unfortunately, we aren't able to refund the 50% or match pricing”

“It's not a credit but our standard warranty coverage of up to 50% of the original plant's value towards replacement.  You purchased the tree for $109.19, so we would apply half of that value towards a plant of the same price or more.  If you choose a lesser priced plant, you'd owe half the current value.  For example, on a $60 plant, you'd owe $30 plus shipping.”

In other words, I can only get up to $54.99 for a tree of equal or more expensive value or 50% off ONE single plant/tree that’s less than the original value. Don’t even ask me about shipping because it doesn’t make sense. How does a pack of barefoot strawberries cost to ship almost the same as a 4-5 ft tree? They quoted me approx $49.99 for the tree and approx 39.99 for the strawberries.

Oh & Nature hills doesn’t have customer service reps, all their reps are sales people, assuming they have more than one. Sales people only care about making profit, no matter how awful the product they are selling is. They only thing nature hills is good at is bombarding you with emails about upcoming sales, on average 6 months emails a month, which are also a gimmick because they pose it like sales, however shipping is outrageous & all the deals have catch 22s!

And lastly I figured it out, nature hills is a RESELLER, they are not an actual nursery that grow trees. They buy trees/plants from other nurseries and resell them, makes total sense now that my tree was shipped too many times & was way too stressed to survive.

I guess I’m used to getting my trees at local nurseries because it’s nice to pick one you can physically see, but lindens aren’t common in my area. Nature hills wasn’t my first choice, Home Depot was, but the tree I ordered from them got lost in route & then it was out of stock (my money was 100% refunded with out any additional insurance or questions), so I had no choice but to get one from nature hells.

By they way, I just got a new healthy little linden tree from online orchards for $29.99 with free shipping - triple the trunk size see pictures attached.

NH please do not contact me, I feel bullied and fooled by you. You have wasted so much of my time, time is the most precious thing we have on this earth!

Hello Tatyana - we wanted to reply showing the timeline of events here. The order was placed on 1/10/23 (in the middle of winter). We shipped your dormant, bareroot tree on 4/20/23 (spring) as that was the best time for you to receive and plant it. It was delivered on 4/22/23 and it was not until 3/15/24 (328 days) that we heard from you regarding any concerns about quality. When you inquired about replacing the tree, we quickly informed you again of the standard warranty policy you have access to (it appears you declined additional coverage for a small fee). We are standing by the terms of sale to allow you to purchase a replacement at a discount of current prices, but you have declined. Plants are living things and once no longer in our care, it is up to customer-care and Mother Nature from then on. We offer the free standard warranty coverage and also a paid warranty for small fee with greater assistance to our customers.

INCOMPETENCE

Scam! Sick, old, weak plants. You will not receive a refund for their sick plants as they will insist you pay for shipping their dead plants back. I have been through HELL with this company. Long story short, I have spent over 800 dollars for plants that never thrived, now I'm left with a small credit of 276.00 (after my bank stepped in and insisted they refunded me) to which I can't use because everything on their website is "OUT OF STOCK". When I asked Berry when we could expect to see their plants for the new year, he hung on me. I'm going to file another claim with my bank. It's the only way to get anything back from this scamming company. Also, I find it ridiculous how all the reviews on their website sound the same. Do yourself a favor and find a reputable company where you'll have a happy, pleasant shopping experience.

Ordered 2 Trees, One died Immediately, and they only offered 50% back

Ordered two of these, one died almost immediately. They told me it was "hibernating" and told me to see if it came back alive the following year. It sure didn't, and to replace it, they only offer partial money back, and offer more for shipping. Take your business elsewhere (most other places would replace the tree free-of-charge).

Hello - it appears you ordered 4 of our quart container butterfly bushes on 7/9/22. These were able to ship to you in Arizona on 9/29/22 (after the damaging summer heat had passed). Delivery occurred on 10/4/22. We did not hear from you regarding any concerns until you called us on 4/12/23 (which is 190 days). At that time, we explained the standard warranty coverage you had on your order over the phone and then emailed you as well on 4/26/23 repeating this information. We are sorry that you feel the coverage is not up to your expectations, but we were clear at purchase and several times after you'd called. It appears you did not elect to receive additional coverage at purchase either. Should you change your mind and wish to take advantage of the coverage you do have, you may do so, but your coverage does expire. Thank you.
