SCAM ! They hold your funds forever

I have had two transactions blocked for over a month now. I have sent all the requested documents, and my agent keeps telling me that he is waiting for confirmation from his manager every time I send him an email to get some news. When I call the hotline, I am always told that neither my agent nor his backup are available, but that they will call me back in a few minutes. This is the third time I've been told this, and no one has ever called me back in over a week.
This company is anything but reliable. They will freeze your funds and keep you waiting forever.
Avoid at all costs!

Fantastic telephone support by all the staff I contacted. One of the best ways to transfer funds reliably and quickly. Exchange rate was good for the first transfer but less so subsequently.

Once great, now HORRIBLE! Do not use!

It's hard to describe just how much has changed with this company. I used them for 10 years, sending about $1 million back and forth to Spain (home purchases, expenses) and somewhere along the way things have gone off the rails. I strongly recommend you DO NOT use this company. Their compliance team is going to drive them out of business. Horrible, horrible, horrible experience.

I have been using OFX for many years…

I have been using OFX for many years always found them to be very reliable and friendly, they deal with my transactions efficiently and very quickly, I dont think I would use another company now.

OFX - NOT RECOMMENDED BY ME

I booked a transfer via OFX for a small amount because I wanted to see how OFX will do its job. In the meantime, I received from them a request for a bank statement for verification purposes. I uploaded the PDF file and I responded by emailing my bank statement. Ay least three times I received a note that my statement is not unedited so OFX rejected it. The emails of rejection stopped coming when I mentioned to them that I will report that I was targeted by a few of their reps that never signed their email messages they sent to me. That is not all. I booked the transfer more than 10 days ago, They debited my account, and then I learned that my transfer has been locked. So, I emailed back that I was not interested in transfers at this time, and I requested a refund of my money that they took out of my checking account. To date the money has not been refunded. I am not happy and unfortunately because of my poor experience with OFX, I do not recommend this money transfer platform to anyone. The transfers take up to 10 days to be processed, and OFX reps are not trustworthy. I will call my bank to dispute their charge. Can you imagine if I sent $1000 ? I could lose it for good because of the lack of transparency and incompetency of OFX agents that will bombard you with multiple emails requesting information outside of the scope of this business practices.

Not recommended for sending money cross border

OFX is not a trusted platform and will not recommend for anyone trying to do international transactions. They advertise hassle free international payments but stop supporting customers in the middle of transaction and leaving the customer to fending for themselves and figuring out what happened to their money.

My transaction was cancelled without informing me & obviously without my approval; OFX also sent my funds without discussing any details with me. They advertise cross border international payment but failed to intimate me because as per their customer support team, since I am based out of India so not reachable via email or phone.

OFX truly served us

Recently my wife and I needed to make a substantial international wire transfer and currency exchange between our U.S. bank and a Canadian bank. We chose OFX to handle the transfer based on their excellent reputation, very competitive exchange rate, and absence of hidden fees. What transpired over the next few weeks has affirmed ten-fold that we made the right choice!

Our US bank made two egregious errors:

First, they misinformed us about the status of our funds, putting us at risk of being unable to complete the transfer within OFX’s agreed upon deadline. Our bank grudgingly acknowledged their error but insisted that they could do nothing about it. When I contacted OFX to inform them of the situation; they immediately and without hesitation extended the deadline for us.

When the first error was finally rectified, we tried again. This time our bank, instead of wiring the funds to OFX’s U.S. account as the written instructions provided by OFX and given to the banker clearly stated, they wired the funds directly to the Canadian bank, bypassing OFX. When we learned of the error, a few hours after it had been made, it was too late to undo the damage. We were thus—by no fault of our own or of OFX’s—in violation of our agreement with OFX and were libel for a substantial loss due to the change in the relative values of the two currencies since we first struck the deal with OFX.

We filed a complaint with our U.S. bank, asking for compensation for lost funds. They said they would investigate and get back to us in two weeks. In the meantime, I informed our agent at OFX of what had occurred. She asked me for the transfer documents and said she would see what she could do. Within a few, she emailed to say that she had discussed the situation with OFX senior managers, and they had decided to waive the loss.

I could hardly believe it. Our U.S. bank eventually finished its investigation, refusing to take responsibility despite the clear, typewritten evidence that their banker had misread the instructions and wired our funds to the wrong bank. By contrast, OFX absorbed a substantial loss for which they bore no responsibility, to protect their customer. The trust, understanding, and generosity that OFX extended us was extraordinary. It is no wonder that OFX has earned a 4.4 Trust Pilot rating, while our U.S. bank is rated at 1.4!

Appalling Service

Appalling Service - Transaction took ONE FULL WEEK to complete through no fault of mine. I will never ever work with OFX again due to the harm and apparent indifference OFX has for its customers' wellbeing.

The transfer of US$10,000USD to ZAR was initiated on Monday. Because of the urgency, I paid for a wire transfer from my bank to OFX's bank. The dollars hit OFX's bank on Monday. On Tuesday, I checked OFX online and saw that the transfer was still in process. I called to ascertain the reason and was informed that "Compliance had outstanding questions that needed to be anwered". I answered those questions at 11am on Tuesday. I asked for escalation via a supervisor and was assured that Compliance would be contacted urgently to approve the transfer.

On Wednesday morning, the transfer had still not been completed even though OFX apparently is open 24/7. I called again to complain. I was informed that Compliance still has one outstanding issue, but Customer Service wasn't able to determine what that was and therefore I was unable to resolve it. I again requested escalation to a supervisor. The supervisor called at 11am and advised that Compliance had approved the transfer.

I called back on Wednesday to determine when the funds would be remitted to South Africa and was informed that it would be at around 3pm Sydney, Australia time (2am on Thursday October 2). Additionally, it would take TWO further days for the ZAR to reach the recipient - for a total of a FULL WEEK delay since OFX received the USD.

Here are the reasons why I am appalled:
1. If an account is out of compliance, why would OFX have accepted funds in the first place? If I'd known that my account had compliance issues I could have resolved them then or used a competitor like Wise.
2. Why was I informed of non-compliance only when I called - rather than OFX advising me of the issue? Had I not called to complain and escalate, I presume the delay in remittance of funds would have exceeded one week.
3. Compliance deigns only to respond to supervisors by email and is not reachable telephonically. This delays urgent resolution.
4. The spot rate of exchange was uncompetitive when compared to the mean USD/ZAR rate quoted by Bloomberg at the time of the transaction. Bloomberg quoted ZAR 17.28/USD versus my rate of ZAR 16 and change.
5. No compensation was offered for the harm this caused me and the recipient. The latter was unable to fulfill her fiscal obligations as a result of OFX's lapse of service.

Dearest OFX

Dearest OFX, this was my first financial transfer with OFX. While it was very unfortunate for a great deal of the time, no one answered the 800 number, etc. I will say with Grand Appreciation, Absolute Confidence, and Complete Gratitude for ONE of Your Most Perfect Represnetatives. When she and I first began speaking, she Understood Completely my situation and difficulties with OFX and How you were not Releasing my Money BACK TO ME AS IT HAD NOT BEEN ACCEPTED BY THE INTENDED RECIPIENT.
Sara Appleton, did not hesitate for ONE MOMENT TO COMPLETELY UNDERSTAND EXACTLY WHAT HAD HAPPENED.

College Fees USD-GBP
