Excitement turned to dissapointment. BAD PAINT JOB

Extremely dissapointed with the quality of my units from a supposedly quality company.
The paint quality is particularly bad. Chipping, peeling paintwork and paint which just rubs off, some areas not painted at all. No primer or undercoat either it seems. Feel let down

Disappointed

Our Omega shaker style kitchen is several years old now but even after a couple of years it was evident that the very thin layer of paint had worn away in places. The company sent me some touch up paint pens that proved to be nowhere near the original shade and made the touched up areas look even worse. We are so disappointed with what we had hoped was our dream kitchen that would look good for years. Very disappointed with their lack of support and disintered after the initial sale.

Save yourself the hassle

We purchased a new build property fitted with an Omega PLC kitchen in Indigo blue. After a few months the paint finish had started chipping away, leaving bright white marks that are very obvious. The developer did come and touch up the paintwork a few times, but it's continued to happen. I purchased an Omega PLC repair kit, for £40!! But the finish is awful, it's so obvious a repair has been attempted, it's a marker pen style and it's rubbish. The very fact they've made a little repair kit just shows Omega know the paint finish isn't fit for purpose.

It's a shame because the kitchen itself isn't a bad kitchen, it just ends up looking dreadful very quickly.

Omega Plc showroom visit

We went to Omega Plc showroom recently and had a wonderful experience. We had a thorough tour especially focusing on the shaker style kitchens/boot rooms/utility rooms. There was no rush, all questions answered, nothing was too much and the team was very kind and friendly. All of our notes/wants etc have been taken down by Giorgia, who was showing us around, and sent to our local retailer so we didn’t even need to write anything down, very helpful. Thank you very much for looking after us so well and making the experience enjoyable.

What am amazing showroom wow....everything you could possibly want and so much more...very member of staff you meet were very accommodating and welcoming. Our Experience

Today we went to Omega Kitchens at Thorne and was accompanied by Giorgia around the showroom. She was so friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and professional. She was able to answer all questions and was an absolute credit to Omega. More than happy to deal with her in the future.
I have read some of the other less favourable comments and find them at odds from our experience with them We are having a new house built and want new kitchens. We had Omega kitchen fitted in our current house 12 years ago and it still looks like new. Excellent quality and visitors think it has been fitted recently. This is our experience and the service was just reinforced with Giorgia's service today. Excellent. Just a very happy customer who have had over 12 years of pleasure from our first kitchen, My tip is to get a good retailer you trust and a good fitter

Omega don’t want you to read this

I’m shocked that trust pilot will take a negative post I put up about omega plc
Well I’m sorry but if the kitchen was as good as they make out then I wouldn’t have put a bad review up on here
Yes they did come out and replace a few bits hats off to them for that
But what about the rest where paint is coming off the doors and you say it’s up to industry standard well sorry but if it was it wouldn’t be coming off
And what about the state of the doors all hung at different heights and catching on the end panels and leaving marks
Yet again you are not bothered but you don’t want anyone to see bad reviews
As you told me out of the thousands you do a year only a few have faults
Well reading on here and Google I wouldn’t say only a few

Terrible paint

Bought a new build house with an Omega kitchen fitted. I haven’t even moved in yet and the paint has chipped off the cabinet doors in 2 places leaving unsightly white patches. The paint clearly isn’t fit for purpose.

In response to the reply from Omega: I had already contacted customer service to explain the issue and was told chipped paint isn’t covered by its warranty & I would need to purchase replacements from a retailer or raise with my developer (which I have done). My developer has emailed Omega and I’ve heard nothing further. The fact the kitchen was signed off is irrelevant in this instance because the paint has chipped off the cabinet door. It doesn’t matter at what stage that has happened; the paint being used clearly isn’t fit for purpose as it isn’t adhering to the surface properly.

Read this before buying

I only wish I’d looked at these reviews before getting my kitchen as the quality and service that I have experienced from Omega PLC post sale is incredibly disappointing and this is why I have rated them only 1 star. This is actually the only 1 star review I have ever given on Trustpilot so you can tell how bad this experience must be. I’m also surprised that Trustpilot have allowed a Retailer selling Omega PLC kitchens to boost the company rating by giving Omega a 5 star review. I am a genuine customer who is happy with the service I received from the Retailer I purchased from, but pretty shocked with the terrible lack of quality and support by Omega when they’ve been asked to rectify issues with the kitchen we bought. So that everyone can see exactly the level of quality and service that I have experienced, I’ve included a bit more explanation below:

Paintwork - As many others have said, the units came with some white scratches and they also scratch very easily, to try and work around this/ work with Omega, we asked for paint to help us to cover this, and we were sent paint pens but really, it’s not great when you are spending so much. I know that the retailer selling Omega says that this is something that Omega can’t avoid and that it happens with all units but this has absolutely not happened with our units by Symphony which we have put in our boot room and utility. Our Symphony units are exposed to rougher treatment due to their location, the Symphony units were significantly cheaper than the Omega units and they have not scratched at all, so I’m not sure why they’re so much better than Omega?

Missing items - one of our units came with a glass shelf missing. It should have had 3 but only came with 2. This wasn’t an issue, everyone makes mistakes, I just contacted them to request the missing glass shelf but the Omega rep tried to convince us that this was correct and it only came with 2 shelves. If we wanted another we would need to pay extra. I re-asked and was told this was just the way it was. To actually get the 3 shelves, I had to take photos of the inside of the unit (with 3 sets of drilled holes) and go onto the website to find photos of the unit to ‘prove’ that this was not right. Once I’d done this, we were then given the missing shelf but this was not until a lot of work on our part. It wasn’t great.

20 year guarantee not honoured - after having our kitchen fitted in November 21, by June 22 just 7 months later, one of the units had cracked and bubbled. I was comforted that this would be covered by the 20 year guarantee. This unit is not in an area that is near to moisture, in fact it’s very close to an electrical socket and as we have a granite surface, I only wipe the surface and don’t let this area sit in water. I also have a panel on the wall that is adjacent to this unit and this panel is still perfect (and it wouldn’t be if I was letting this area sit in water). Omega however have refused to honour this guarantee, they have said that this unit must have been sat in water and therefore the guarantee is void! I know 100% this is not the case but, they just said that their units are tested (and are perfect) so this is our fault and they wont replace it.

Not fit for purpose - as part of our kitchen we had a beautiful pantry cupboard installed. Its big, so there are 10 hinges installed (5 on each door) but just 16 months after installation, one of the hinges snapped inside and the door completely dropped, the hinges were just not fit for purpose and we have had to replace them with hinges from a different kitchen manufacturer.

Poor customer service / complete lack of accountability or responsibility post sale- I completely understand that mistakes will be made and that there will sometimes be quality issues but the arrogant and dismissive way that Omega have dealt with us is the reason that I would never buy an Omega PLC kitchen again. The reasoning I have given, will hopefully convince others to not make the same mistake. The guarantees and quality assurances from Omega are, in my experience, absolutely not worth the paper it’s written on. My advice, don’t do it, just choose another brand.

Excellent Quality & Backup Service

As a kitchen retailer, we take selection of our partners very seriously, and throughout our time of ownership of our studio, Omega has consistently provided excellent quality products, a good range of doors & unit styles and some of the best back up support in the business. For this reason, the bulk of all kitchens we sell are from two of Omega's brands (English Rose and Mackintosh), consistently outselling even our German manufacturers. On the rare occasions we have had issues with product, the remedial service has been second to none, and I have no qualms about recommending them.

I notice quote a number of low scored reviews, almost all referencing paint issues. We have had a small number of kitchens which had issues with paint, which was due to the move to water-based paints from solvent-based - a requirement stemming from a ridiculous EU rule. In truth, ALL suppliers of painted kitchen units have faced such issues when first making this move, as there is less elasticity in water-based paints. Omega have invested very heavily in their paint processes, and I am pleased that the quality now is amongst the best available. There are still a couple of manufacturers who have yet to move to water-based (the EU directive does not become mandatory for a short time), but I would lay money on the remaining companies facing similar issues when they eventually do!

Hopefully that will allay a few concerns, and I encourage any prospective purchaser to seek out a studio and inspect the product themselves - it really is of excellent quality.

Appallingly poor quality paint used on…

Appallingly poor quality paint used on their kitchens and even worse customer service just not interested, I certainly wouldn't recommend their products as others have mentioned.
After less than a year the paint starts to crack and then flakes off and chips extremely easily. This was an expensive kitchen but would be surprised if the lasts a couple of years.
As a professional painter and decorator I'm well aware of the importance of properly primed surfaces, unfortunately none is evident in this instance leading to the breakdown of the surface coating.

Really poor quality kitchen doors

Really poor quality kitchen doors. After less than 2 years use use we have had several issues.

You cannot use a dishwasher with the doors as the door wood blows as they cannot cope with it. We use a high quality dishwasher made by NEFF.

You cannot use the doors for every day use. The doors we chose have the handles integrated into the panels. The paint flakes off where you place your hands to open the doors. It shows the white underlay base coat beneath.

We have had one panel fall off as the wood could not cope with the screw screwed into it. We used a professional kitchen supplier to fit the kitchen.

They will not honour their 20 year guarantee. They will only offer a 30% discount to purchase new doors.

Omega English rose kitchen great kitchen

I had a kitchen ordered for my behalf from kitchen creations Markfield Leicester. Kitchen creations markfield managed the whole project from ordering the kitchen and arranging fitting and all other work was done by kitchen creations own contractors. The delivery ran to schedule and all was delivered promptly by omega kitchen the English rose kitchen. All fittings for the kitchen came in flat pack and was well packaged and secure. I was very impressed with the delivery and was kept informed about time and the route.The kitchen has been fitted by kitchen creations and I am pleased with the kitchen such high quality and looks nice. Kitchen creations Markfield have done such a great job with ordering the kitchen and fitting.

don't know their own kitchens and don't reply

my kitchen seller and myself have both asked Omega the same question about their In-Frame questions. They don't reply by email, the girl on the phone didn't have a clue and told me the kitchen I'm looking at was wood when I know its MDF, then tried to put me through to 'technical' who weren't there but would 'get back to me the same day' - they haven't and they don't return emails or voice mails. Think I'd better buy from someone who knows what they're doing, added to the fact that most of the reviews on here suggest they're pretty awful. Update: June 2023, a reply from omega, an entire year after I left the review, which actually just says 'sorry they didn't reply' !!!!

I had a Chippendale painted shaker…

I had a Chippendale painted shaker style kitchen last Oct, Fairly soon there were white Mark's appearing on the door fronts and edges. I have no children living at home and most of the week it is just me here. I have grey top units and indigo bottom units and all have just one thin coat of paint. One cupboard door was returned for testing but apparently there is nothing wrong with them! Although Omega have agreed to replace every cupboard/draw front and side, and the independent company I purchased from are replacing at no cost. Obviously the current issue has been dealt with but I'm really worried the same will happen once the new fronts are put in. I have a small kitchen and supplied all my own appliances yet it still cost nearly £11k, therefore I'd expect more than one thin layer of paint, which wouldn't be durable in any circumstances let alone a kitchen. I've painted furniture in Frenchic that has lasted longer than the Omega stuff!

Amy saves the day

I have had an Omega kitchen fitted about 20 months ago and it looks fabulous, lovely finish and well fitted by an independent kitchen installer. I have however recently noticed a blemish develop on one of the doors and the painted finish is starting to wear off on some of the others. Nothing serious but worrying about the future robustness of the units.
I contacted Omega directly and spoke to a very efficient and helpful lady called Amy. Amy has been brilliant, organised new doors to be sent and has put my mind at ease regarding these and any other problems that might occur. Whilst disappointed that I have had to raise these issues I have every confidence that they have been rectified.
