Ordered two books on Nov. 24,2014 hoping to give as xmas presents. Neither book has arrived 12/23/2014 inquired and both sellers claim they had been shipped. Requested a refund says its being processed 1/1/2015 still awaiting refund. Thought maybe this was a reputable company but now know better will call my VISA company tomorrow have them do a charge back.
I had a terrible experience with paperbackshop.co.uk and several of their aliases on Amazon a few years ago and swore to never buy from them again. the problem is they have LOADS of aliases (never the sign of an honest company), so it's really hard to avoid them when they are doing everything possible to cloak their true identity from shoppers.
I unwittingly ordered from World Books, but guess who the seller really is?
Despite estimating shipping for the book I wanted at 2-4 weeks, the books I ordered took far longer and were poorly packaged in sticky wrappers.
I think the company should be made to come clean and stop using a load of fake names to trick customers. They also have the rudest customer service person working for them that I have ever encountered. Just avoid them!
This company refused to send me a tracking number for my order for a week, insisting that the book had already been shipped. I don't think they even had the book in stock when I originally ordered it. After a week, I asked Abebooks to give the seller a little nudge. The company finally emailed me with the tracking number, but with this appallingly rude message implying that I was inconveniencing the company: "Your order is well on its way to you, but for your peace of mind we have supplied your tracking number and link below." I recommend that you do NOT buy from this company. They will try to cover up their tracks as much as possible.
If you think you'll get the book you want, think again. Two books I recently ordered were refunded AFTER being confirmed by Abebooks. Now I see the SAME book seller is selling the SAME book for MUCH more than I was paid for it. This is unprofessional and unethical. The two books I ordered were award books so the seller must think he'll get more for it now. This is very disappointing.
late delivery despite extra payment for expedited service. Had to purchase elsewhere and no method for return/refund.
Ordered a book and used the expedited shipping method. The WRONG book was delivered. Terrible delivery and service. Avoid buying from them.
I ordered a Lonely Planet book for EUR 17 on play.com. It turned out that the seller was pbshopatPlay, which is apparently their alias on play.com.
It was only when I received the email confirmation that I was informed that the book would be shipped from their warehouse in the US to Denmark.
I was absolutely flabbergasted. How can you omit such an important piece of information when presenting the offer to the customer?
Now I will have to pay more than double the purchase price in Danish VAT, duties and fee to the Danish post office because the package will come from the US! Of course I tried to cancel the order immediately after receipt of the confirmation but no response from either play.com nor pbshopatPlay.
Only today (12 hours later) was I informed by the shop that they are unable to stop the order even though it has not been shipped yet.
This is simply not good enough. How can you run a webshop in the 21st century and not inform customers upfront about shipping from the US; not being able to cancel an order; not responding to customer service requests until half a day later?
I purchased a book on 21stJan they sent a message next day but the book did not arrive. Contacted them and no response...
