Only word I can describe this company…

Only word I can describe this company is “scam.” I set up a direct debit with my bank which was showing up with all my other direct debits. Thinking it would go through monthly like all other direct debits I left it at that. Next thing I am being slapped with a £12 “missed payment” fine. So I paid back the amount in full and thought that was the end of it and my account would be closed. This month I received another £12 fine. Each time PayPal have said my bank (Halifax) rejected the payments. My bank has said the only thing they can think of is an issue with PayPal’s bank. PayPal say I cannot be the only person who has had the problem (how would I know if I am?!). Anyway knowing I have quite a few standing orders/direct debits with my bank and never had a problem with them - or any other payments - until now, clearly the fault is definitely with PayPal and I really want to complain to a financial ombudsman about it.

Likewise with others

Likewise with others, due to a technical fault a direct debit did not go through. This negatively impacted my credit score despite disputing it.
I was not informed of the missed payment until i saw it on my report amd enquired.

Despicable. I abstain from using them as even if I do pay early- there is no certainty it will go through due to technical issues on their part.

A really old fashioned con of a credit…

A really old fashioned con of a credit system. Basically, if you make a payment it’s takes dayyyyys to be credited - hmmmm wonder why!

I have been making payments on PayPal credit which I get 4m interest free but it doesn’t automatically do the ‘pay in 3’ interest free payments. So despite me paying £60 payment, it’s conveniently hasn’t taken the last £6 of the pay in 3 which is due today to avoid interest. Paid off the entire balance to ensure I’m not conned into paying interest and it’s been pending for hours and hours.

Daylight robbery. Well I’ll close my account now. Thought it was a convenient way of making purchases and protecting the interest on my savings but obviously they’re a business but lost mine.

Paypal should do only one business they are good at, nothing else

I'm a Paypal user for many years and I always appreciated the usefulness of Paypal payments based on email non-repudiation and authenticity.

I did extend this year to the use of Paypal Credit, just to taste a new service => utterly disappointed. Nowhere was written that I have to put direct debit. No documentation or email provided warned me about it.
I thought that the credit staff would work by default, as the PayPal payments, just login and voila, they run automatically. Nothing was provided to me to warn me to setup a direct debit. The funny guys from PayPal directly started to charge APR and penalties and everything.

I do not tolerate to be cheated!

In this case you was supposed to clearly say to your customer how your service works. You cannot charge me and penalize me just because you have the power. It feel like abuse.

Just do your PayPal payments based on email and don't do any other business, if you aren't good for!!

I paid all the debts immediately but even now I have 12 pounds for LATE payment ... and of course, nobody communicates with you, they just charge more and more as all wish to be rich as ELon M.

Never nver Paypal xxx any other service

Don’t fall for it

PayPal credit is the worst decision I have ever made, I pay my bill every month but the last 3 months it keeps rejecting my payment I rang and the lady said everything was fine but today my account is frozen until I pay it off I am going to pay the whole thing off and never use them again and I’ve told loads of people don’t do it, it’s a disgrace.

Difficult to track due payments- hidden fees

On the whole I'd say I had a disappointing experience with them:

1. They make it hard to manage your PayPal credit account, I.e. tried to setup a direct debit in the app for months but kept experiencing a technical error. I called up and raised it with them but they still directed me back to the app.
2. Because it's a multi-credit arrangement I.e. your purchases have different repayment terms (e.g. pay in 3, pay in instalments etc.), it's hard to track what you are paying off (the app doesn't do that for you) so you end up wasting time calling agents to work out what needs to be paid off when. Of course, the confusion serves them, because if you don't know what needs to be paid by when, they can charge you fees.

On the whole, could work if you want to buy something without paying upfront & then repay immediately. But not good for what it is marketed as. I've unknowingly racked up 100s of pounds in fees which feels disingenuous to me, so I decided to close down the account today.

Terrible credit company - was great for me initially but they put their interest fees up all of a sudden, no explanation as to why!

I cannot wait to pay my remaining balance off this company honestly. They have caused me more hassle than anything else. They are like any other credit company out there to make money. I called up this afternoon and spoke to John and he wasn’t really helpful at all! No explanation of why the fees went up all of a sudden when my balance left to pay has down drastically. He did not really hear what I said and this made me feel so upset knowing that cost of living has gone up like everything else. I would never want to deal with these people again. It’s not worth the stress honestly.

Horrible Lender

Horrible Lender - I used PayPal Credit with a deal to purchase a phone on contract and it has been my worst experience working with a lender to date. They have extremely predatory practices, setting up a payment plan and then continuously increasing rates to ensure the principle is never paid off. I had a payment plan that was supposed to take 24 months, after 14 months due to changes in interest rates I was only about 1/3 paid up. I ended up just settling the balance in full and closing my account with them.

PayPal have completely wrecked repayments

PayPal have completely wrecked what was at one time a very simple repayment process. I used to be able to select a purchase amount, and pay a lump sum off it. Very easy. I used it several times for interest free purchases. Now they have an overly complex process in place, where they have decided they will pay off interest bearing balances first with whatever money you pay to them, then in the last month of the interest free period they will start paying money off that balance. They claim this means we will pay less interest, but if interest free balances aren't paid off within the period customers have to pay the full interest amount.
The process is broken. It used to work and now it doesn't. I actually have 2 purchases both on interest free credit. One of them should be a regular direct debit amount over 12 months, but it's over a month since the purchase and no payments have been taken. For the second purchase I didn't need the interest free credit but figured I may as well have it. So I want to pay off this second amount first with a lump sum, and there's no way for me to do it. Well done PayPal. You've created a system that isn't fit for purpose, replacing one that worked fine. I'm going to avoid using PayPal credit in the future. I'm going to pay off the whole lot and get rid of PayPal credit.

Pointless system and useless customer service

In a nutshell: the most dishonest, least professional bank-like service I have ever dealt with. I cannot recommend it to anyone.
I did a 24 month instalment purchase with them. When I made the purchase, I specified which bank account I wanted to pay the instalments from - PayPal checked my account, but - as I found out afterwards - did not set it up for direct debit. When I logged into my PayPal app, I didn't see the 24-month loan, but instead a credit card loan. I could choose to pay the minimum payment, the full amount, or some amount in between of my choosing. However, the minimum payment was obviously much more than the monthly payment would have been. So there was nothing I could do here - so I waited for them to deduct the instalment due from the account I had given them. They didn't, but sent me an email saying that I had been fined £12 for not paying the first instalment.
And here's the thing, when I wrote to them asking what I should do now, how did this happen - first they sent me a long reply, copied from the FAQ, which did not address the specific problem at all, and then, when I asked them again what I should do, they sent me the contact details of Financial Ombudsman Service, so that I could write to them if I didn't like their reply.
I have never encountered such a soulless customer service department.

Disgraceful Customer Service

Disgraceful Customer Serbice
Poorly trained rude staff who keep you on the phone for hours to accomodate their systems shortfalls.

They pass you from one agent to another and with each having to go through security and with each either useless at their jobs or ill equipped to assist.

I tried to set up a direct debit to pay PayPal Credit. Despite having an account from where I pay all of my household bills to both small and large businesses PayPal tell me that the it security system doesent like the account that I’m paying them from. They then try and incorrectly blame my bank.
I ask them if I can speak to a manager and they make it very clear that their management consider themselves far more important than their customers and insist on a call back within 24 hours when convenient to them.

The call back doesent happen and they have to arrange for another call back from a faceless manager.

Avoid buying any financial products from PayPal as they demonstrate themselves as being incapable of supporting them.

Paypal claims to have your back but stabs it instead.

This is an update to this experience.
After complaining here and filing a report at the BBB, Paypal finally acted on this problem and reimbursed me.
I understand they must deal with plenty of fraudulent Chinese companies and this must be a financial burden on them. However, the reason for their existence is that they offer an added layer of security. Being accused of being the one that could be defrauding the Chinese factory is not what people that use their service expect. I appreciate the correction of the problem and the apology. However, I wasted a lot of my valuable time on something that should have been resolved the first time.
--------
I got scammed by a chinese website which pretends to be a US business. When I opened a case in Paypal, they sided with the them even though the items I received were not as described, were very poor quality and had missing parts. I complained to the BBB, which send them a letter about my complaint and they never bothered to answer. This is what they think of their customers. However, they will continue to deal with the Chinese website because it brings them $$$. This is a corrupt and irresponsible business. I see from other complaints here that their bad behavior is common. With Chinese websites scamming people online at an alarming rate, something needs to be done to stop them and it surely won't be by Paypal.

PayPal credit is so confusing

PayPal credit is so confusing. The balance updates sporadically and they take the money from your bank account at random times. I have paid extra this month after being advised wrongly and not wanting to get charged interested. Won't be using it once I've paid off the final part next month.

What an absolute low hanging sack of…

What an absolute low hanging sack of balls this service is!
A 0% for 4 months was explained to me as if:
- we take minimum payment after purchase
(your JOB is to guess which one and how much exactly, should you have more than one purchase on such plan... because it won't show on your statement)
- we take the rest on the last day of promotion

Fast forward and I'm being charge a full month of interest ONE WEEK after promotion expires.
Why?
Oh, how I'd love everyone to listen to this gibberish and absurd logic that I was given. Thankfully, there were others, more competent to deal with a YES/NO question, without giving me the earbeating.

Long story short - avoid!
Use only for scheduled payments if necessery. Other than that, be sure to be charged interest.
