Alan McKeown was incredibly helpful. He gave a meticulous and comprehensive survey report which included many useful photos & detailed explanations. He came across as extremely professional, knowledgeable & competent. I trusted him to carry out a thorough survey - which he did. He answered my numerous questions sent via email in a timely fashion. He followed up the survey with a phone-call during which he explained his main findings in an easy to understand way. I was very pleased with the service I received - from start to finish, I thought it exemplary. I cannot recommend Alan more highly.

Alan was very detailed in his report and was happy to talk through what he had found. He did the survey around 5 years ago, but his service was of such a high standard that we are still impressed by his work! Im glad we chose Alan as he found issues with damp and the chimney structure so we didn't buy the house. He literally leaves no stone unturned and even found a pair of work boots hidden inside a wall!

Alan provided a superb survey, the detail he went into was more than we expected, and the report took several days to read.
The report itself contained images to demonstrate key points regarding key issues with the property, and was score internally with a colour based scale to indicate issues that ranged from severe (immediate attention) to minor (at some point), in terms of repair or restoration requirement, and suggestions on what materials or methods might be needed.
I recommend his services without reservation.

Competent and passionate surveyor who took the time to speak to me numerous times after completing the survey. This guaranteed I fully understood the survey results and the best way to handle the required repairs on this historic property.

I booked Alan to come and do a survey of my 4 bed semi-detached house last week. Communication was very good and we agreed a date and time for the survey. I received his T&Cs and invoice prior to the visit.
He turned up on time and asked about COVID restrictions in the house and put on his shoe covers.
The reason for the survey was that we had damp patches appearing around the chimney breast in the ground floor lounge. Alan did a thorough inspection that included surveying the roof and chimney stack using a remote camera on a telescopic stick, using a damp meter, taking "thermal photographs" etc etc and analysing salts from the damp patches.
He asked if it was ok to lift the carpet and access under the floor boards which I agreed to. He located the source of the damp problem and we discussed what could be done about it.
He spent at least an hour here and was very friendly and helpful throughout.
A few days later I received a comprehensive report with photos and conclusions and suggestions for remedies. As a result we are looking into getting a new roof and some plastering work done.
I thoroughly recommend Alan to anybody due to his knowledge, professionalism and manner.

Second time our family have used Alan's services, and once again, an excellent report. Alan provides great backup both before and after the survey, clearly explaining the service he will provide, then making time to answer questions about his findings after the survey report has been completed and issued to the client. The report is set out clearly in jargon-free language and the "traffic light" system of prioritising repairs and other issues to be addressed is extremely clear and useful. Once again, highly recommended.

Alan recently competed a building survey on a grade II listed cottage after being highly recommended to us. His service was brilliant throughout and he was willing to travel to accommodate the survey.
