The best experience as always when we travel in Romania.

Don't, just don't even think to rent a car here! You can get scammed extremely easy, especially if you book cheap through an online booking company (I rent through Economy Bookings). All was nice and comfy until we provided the credit card for the deposit. It was also our mistake, that we gave it in the hands of the employee and he worked with it below the counter: transaction failed. So I said to try again. I was amazed, puzzled, shocked when the employee refused it repeatedly. "No, no, no, we cannot take the risk to block your card". No matter what I explained - the card is not blocking after a second try, I take full responsibility if it's blocking, the card is active and working as we recently used it - he was unwavering. The employee kicked us out from the office, just like that. I called the Bucharest office, thinking they have power of decision, assuming they are some central office. The guy on the phone was even more shocking: they cannot risk to block their POS. Wow!!! So they are letting us without a car, 200 km away from home, because they don't want to risk to block their POS. Un-be-li-va-ble! So we rented half an hour later using the same card, of course it was working. And the person where we rented explained us how and why we were scammed. This is this company's tactic: if the rental price is very low, they cannot refuse it to the booking company due to contracts. So they chose to scam the customer. When the guy took our credit card, he entered the amount, we entered the pin code and when he took the machine back, he drew back just as much as necessary the card, so the transaction fails. This is why when we asked him to repeat the operation, because I would have ask him to do it on top of the counter, he refused it so firmly. Such an ugly scam, incredible! So if you still decide to go ahead and book with these guys, make sure everything is done in front of you, transparently. But I strongly advise not to even consider them for a rental, if they prove to have such low moral and ethical standards. This company is not running a business, but a purely profit digger, no matter if they leave people in the street.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS

Although polite at first they will mess you up nicely.
They will ask you straight away if you are aware of booking.com terms and conditions.
And then they will print a paper where it says your credit card must be embossed in order for you to use it.
And when you realise you can’t guess what? You pay their insurance.
Which for me was €300 for a €100 booking.
When I wasn’t sure if I wanted to pay the guy goes “I can try and speak to my manager to see if we can take the deposit but there is a high chance you will be charged when you return the car”.

Upon return, a different agent asked me if it was the first time renting with them and when I replied “first and last” he wanted to know why. I explained this is because of their abusing policy and that I have never had to deal with this anywhere in the world. Laughing he goes “well, now you had”.

You have plenty of options around. I went with these because I wanted premium but the service is rubbish.

We rented a Skoda Octavia SW, at the “Transylvania”Airport Tîrgu Mureș for five days. The car was great, new, clean, well equipped and parked in front of the airport.
The service was excellent and fast too.

Rented a car in Bucharest from PREMIUM RENT ROMANIA also known as CARWIZ , the worst experience in my 20 years renting history . They have the cheapest price for a reason , if their full insurance is not bought they will try to find all the reasons in the world to take money from your deposit.  Our car was unsafe one headlight not working,  and developed a airbag light indicating a airbag malfunction but when returned the car in the same condition (I took pictures before) they looked for any scratches to bill our deposit. Their contract stipulates that they can charge for scratches from 1 millimeter up , so there is no chance that a car like ours that was over 10 years old will not have something like that , and although the pictures was good not even in pictures is possible to find all light marks at 1 milimeter , they also class as a damage spot even the dirt from tar from roads . At return they couldn't provide the damage report that I filled on pick up in which all the damage was pointed and recorded so the company representative started to look for anything that could be used to bill our deposit asking about all the little dings and blemishes if I have pictures with them from pick up (he should have known all the damage from the damage report but...was nowhere to be found). As I had pictures on most of little damages the guy fabricated a crack in the windscreen that was actually a blemish, a discoloration not a scratch or crack and again fabricated some extra scratches on the rear bumper as in my pictures was a bit too dark so although was visible in the picture the guy didn't took the picture in consideration (I repeat all of this damages was recorded on the damage report filled at pick up that vanished mysteriously). By the way a small scratch on a bumper is €500 a blemish on the windscreen is €300. So take good care when renting from this scammers.
