Amazing quality costumes!

Have been purchasing items from Prima for just over a year and it is by far my favourite place to order from.
The quality of the costumes are great, and my dancers love wearing them for competitions.

The dance attire is of excellent…

The dance attire is of excellent quality and was perfect for our dance school's performance. We ordered a variety of sizes, and the process for exchanges and returns was straightforward. We are certain we'll choose Proms again in the future, and the teacher discount was an added advantage.

Avoid at all costs! Terrible company!

Warning to others, extremely poor communication and questionable practices
If this company had simply responded to my original email asking for tracking details, none of this situation would have happened.
When I placed my order, the sizes I needed were out of stock. I contacted them to ask if they would be restocked, and they quickly replied saying they had just received new stock, quite the coincidence. At the time, I was relieved, but looking back, that should have been a red flag.
For the record, I did not initiate the chargeback, my bank did. I was told to wait 15 days before taking any action, but the bank acted too soon, without my authorisation. I fully acknowledge that this wasn’t the company’s fault. However, I was informed by my bank that the chargeback could be reversed if the company either sent the items or issued a refund.
Instead, they claimed they couldn’t do either because of a £15 chargeback fee. I checked with my bank, who confirmed that merchants are refunded this fee once the dispute is resolved.
The company later claimed that the costumes were ready to ship the day after the chargeback, which seems very unlikely, especially since another customer reported being unable to order the same costumes in the same colours and sizes. Something simply doesn’t add up. In my opinion, they likely never had the costumes to send to me.
They also claimed to have paid the £15 fee, yet my bank is still waiting to hear from them. The “proof” they sent me, which I forwarded to my bank, is now being reviewed to verify its authenticity. Their document even stated that the money was with me, the customer, which it absolutely is not, they still have my £1k of money.
This entire ordeal could have been avoided if they had allowed me to reverse the chargeback, as my bank advised.
I’ve made several attempts to resolve this amicably, but the inconsistent responses and lack of accountability have caused unnecessary stress and loss.
Throughout this entire process, they never really listened to me. It felt like my messages were ignored, and anything I tried to explain was met with canned or dismissive replies. There was no genuine effort to understand or resolve what I was actually saying.
I ordered group costumes, these dancers are now unable to compete in upcoming comps as they haven’t got costumes to wear. So I've now lost two lots of comp deposits.
And finally, to anyone reading this: please don’t be swayed by the company’s inevitable response. They tend to reply to negative reviews with their own version of events, often leaving out key details or twisting the facts. Read other reviews, look for the patterns, and judge for yourself.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback — we are deeply disappointed that you feel let down, particularly given the efforts we made to assist you.

From the outset, we responded promptly to your query about your package being dispatched. We informed you that new stock had been delayed, and we fulfil your order at a slightly later date. We maintained correspondence and clarified the expected shipping timeline. Unfortunately, as you made the decision to initiate a chargeback - only three days after placing the order - circumstances changed.

We kindly accepted the chargeback and provided yourself and your bank with evidence of this process. We also paid the chargeback processing fee (often around £15-£100 for merchants). Had you not initiated a chargeback in a short period if time, we could have dispatched your goods or refunded you via your original payment method.

As chargeback rules confirm, the merchant is debited not only for the disputed amount but also for a fee, and must respond within a set window (often 20-45 days, depending on the card scheme or acquirer). We responded within 48 hours.

The full dispute process can take many weeks (often 30-90 days or more), for the bank to finalise their end of work. Unfortunately this is out of our control.

What we could have done differently if you had not opened the chargeback is:

- dispatch the costumes after the weekend.

- or issue you an instant refund on the main order.

Either of those options would have resolved the matter quickly and amicably. By opening the chargeback so early, the process became more complicated and prolonged for everyone involved.

Once the bank triggered the dispute, we acted responsibly: we accepted the chargeback, sent evidence, covered the fee, and worked in good faith.

The suggestion that we never had the costumes is incorrect — we had confirmed restock, and were preparing to fulfil the order promptly.

We are genuinely disappointed. We tried to assist you, communicated clearly, and were ready to fulfil or refund. The decision to initiate the chargeback prematurely meant that we could not deliver in the timeframe that we offered. It also introduced unnecessary delays and complexity.

A note to other customers
We always strive to be transparent and responsive. Our policy is to communicate promptly, update stock, dispatch when available, or refund immediately if requested. We regret that in this case, despite our efforts, the outcome was unsatisfactory for you.

Again, we apologise for the stress and inconvenience you experienced. We remain committed to fair, clear and professional service.

Beware

Beware: I have just experienced terrible customer service from this company. They have a deliberately tricky returns process. You have to request a returns form within 8 days. They don’t include one in the package or any info about returns to alert you to this. Nor at the time you order. You have to go to a page on the website to find the details. Then when you email them, they delay sending this form to run the clock down to 14 days when they will accept returns but not refund at that point. Very poor and I would say shady customer service.

When you first contacted us about returning your items, your email did not include an order number, which we kindly requested in order to locate your purchase. It then took five days for you to provide this information. Our returns policy allows 14 days from receipt of payment to request a return — this policy is clearly stated on our website, within our Terms & Conditions, and at checkout (where it must be agreed to before placing an order).

Once we received your details, we offered both an exchange or a credit note as a gesture of goodwill, even though your return request had fallen outside our 14-day policy. Unfortunately, you declined these options. We are generally flexible with credit notes, which can be used within 1 year of receiving them.

We always aim to assist our customers respectfully and fairly, but it’s important that communication remains constructive so we can resolve matters effectively. We appreciate your feedback and will continue working to make our processes as clear as possible.

My order arrived quickly

My order arrived quickly, and the fit was excellent. We ordered a few sizes to try and returned the one we didn’t need to with no hesitation for a refund.
The staff were quick to respond to us and help us with sizing before ordering. As a dance studio we will definitely purchase again.

Great quality dancewear

Great quality dancewear, which we used for our dance school show. Ordered lots of sizes and was an easy process to exchange / return. We will definitely use proms again in the future. The teacher discount was a bonus too.

I have been purchasing dance wear from…

I have been purchasing dance wear from Prima for many years and I am truly astounded by the quality of every item we have purchased. The team at Prima are always so helpful and deliveries have been always on time. Not only do we purchase for dance training but also competitions and special events. Our dance school have also started to buy large orders of costumes for shows from them too and have been so impressed with everything!!! 5 stars from us.

Fantastic customer service

Fantastic customer service! Prima Dancewear were really helpful when I needed to order a different size dance skirt for my daughter to try - extending the returns period for me so that I could keep the original skirt I had ordered while I waited for the next skirt arrive so I could compare sizes. Couldn't have been more accommodating. Thank you.

Highly recommend

Great, reliable service from the prima team. We needed a last minute bulk of skirts for our dance college students and received these the following working day.

The team were great help with our last minute request. We returned some items for a refund / exchange and this was felt with promptly. Highly recommended

One star is still too much

One star is still too much. I ordered a leotard which was to be delivered via Royal Mail. It is showing as delivered but this is an error, I have not received the order. Prima dancewear are not willing to help resolve this issue and only suggestion was 'Ask the postman' and re order. No offer of assistance, or a replacement leotard shipped or refund, not even a discount as a good will gesture. Absolutely disgusted with their customer service and will never order again. I feel they do not believe me, and siding with the courier. BE WARNED, if an item fails to arrive you will be out of pocket.

Your order was sent via Royal Mail tracked delivery, and the tracking number: 0211449E010C45AF clearly shows it was successfully delivered to the address provided.

Unfortunately, when Royal Mail shows proof of delivery, they will not allow us to make a claim from our side. In cases like this, the only way forward is for the recipient to open a claim with Royal Mail directly, as they will not process it on behalf of the sender when the item is marked as delivered.

Please know that if an order ever shows as undelivered or lost in transit, we always replace or refund our customers without hesitation. We take pride in our customer service and would never leave someone out of pocket where Royal Mail has admitted a delivery failure.

We completely understand your frustration, but this situation is beyond our control.

We’re a small business that values honesty and fairness, and we hope other customers can see from this that we take delivery issues seriously, but also have to follow Royal Mail’s policies when proof of delivery is provided.

Terrible customer service

Terrible customer service. Doesn’t respond to emails, so sent a return as didn’t want it to be too late. Then they refused refund. Said they’d return items as I said I’d have to sell on privately. 6 weeks later and they’ve still not arrived. Multiple emails later and they say they sent the item (I’ve seen no proof) and that the item has been return to them apparently but not received. So now they have all the items but are still refusing the refund. If they have a strict 2 week return policy they should respond with them same speed. They are now telling me to wait a further two weeks. So 8 weeks later and I’ll still be out of pocket.
Appalling service. Slow and unacceptable

Hi Lucinda. Thank you for taking the time to leave us feedback, we appreciate it and are currently trying to resolve this matter. However, some of the above information is incorrect.

We do request all customers to email us to request and receive a returns form. Within the time you emailed we were closed for bank holiday weekend - as most business' are. You proceeded to send items back without receiving a returns form or confirmation from us, with the items 2 weeks out of the return policy. A total of 4 weeks past the order date.

We politely explained we can offer you an exchange or credit note, valid for 12 months if you wished, however you said you would prefer to have the items back to sell privately. This was your choice.

We proceeded to send the items back, which were not signed for and returned to sender. We have been in contact with royal mail as the RTS package has not been received.

Unfortunately once an item is with the carrier we have to wait on their response to proceed. As a small business we have to rely on this first.

We have not once refused a refund for the missing items, and have said we are waiting for royal mail to reimburse this fee for us to pay to you. Unfortunately in a chain there is some wait time.

As mentioned via our email thread, please be reassured we will be in touch with you within 7-10 working days from two days ago to process the refund once the cheque has been received.

We thank you for your patience with this matter and look forward to providing you with better customer service, with your future purchases.

Beautiful dancewear, not best quality

I have brought multiple items from prima and there dancewear is beautiful! Usually arrives fast and on time. However, the elastic on the waist band always ends up twisted and rolled , they did offer me an exchange when I complained but every top is like this for me

Prima Dancewear is always my first choice for dance costumes due to a wide choice, competitive prices and great quality. Oh and speedy delivery! I ordered a few items for my daughter's next solo, will be keeping a beautiful skirt but returning the dress. Prima Dancewear were super helpful with my return, responding really quickly. Thank you!
