Plant condition looks excellent as was the packaging. Only time will tell me the quality of the blooms. So as of now it's four stars optimistically becoming five next year!

Awful experience DO NOT BUY

Awful experience. Ordered on the 10th June they posted on 18th and it’s been stuck with dpd ever since filled out a form on their website 3 weeks ago and no one has got in touch to give me my money back or arrange a delivery. Tried to get hold of some customer service on social media with no luck either

Very disappointed

I am very disappointed I bought a 'dinner plate' peony at Hampton Court flower show on Friday. Plant advertised as £30 but if bought at the show would be £25. I was very upset on checking my bank account to see I was charged £35!! I hope for an apology and a refund. I was lady in a disabled buggy. Cicely Crawford

Disappointed

Long delivery time, £10 delivery is the most expensive ever. Got mildew on day two. In the ground it looks half dead. I specifically paid for a potted plant but it appears to be a bare root with half a pot of soil thrown around it.

Very Bad Customer Service

The issue was with the delivery because it was delayed and they'd obviously dropped the plant. The packaging is not as robust as RHS or Sarah Raven so couldn't stand up to delivery drivers. This could have been remedied but the customer service was awful, despite clear photos showing the damage no refund, partial or otherwise was offered. The response was indifferent and uninterested in resolving the situation. I've ended up paying a lot of money for a half dead plant. I think how a company deals with a situation when something has gone wrong is very telling. I will not be using this company again.

Fantastic range of Peonies

I was looking for more peonies to add to my existing plants and fill my borders - and wanted something different from the small range that local garden centres sell.
Primrose Hall Peonies have an exciting and wonderful selection of peonies to choose from - perfect for me.
The website was easy to navigate. Notes about each peony helped me to choose the right ones for my garden and how to care for them long term.
The peonies I ordered arrived in really good condition, with clear instructions how to care for them.
Very happy with with the plants and the ordering process.
Can highly recommend.

Thank you for sharing your concerns, and we’re sorry to hear about your sister’s experience with her peony.

We’re pleased to confirm that our customer service team has been in touch with your sister over email to offer tailored advice and support. We understand how disappointing it is when a plant doesn’t perform as expected, especially after several years.

It’s important to note that one common reason peonies may fail to flower is due to mulching over the crown across multiple seasons. If the crown becomes buried too deeply, it can prevent blooming—this is a frequent issue we see even with otherwise healthy plants.

We do genuinely value every customer and regret that this experience has left a negative impression. If there’s anything more we can do to help, we’d be happy to continue the conversation. Our customer service email address is customerservice@primrosehall.co.uk

Appalling service

Appalling service. Item was ordered as a birthday gift, the goods have not yet been delivered and has been sitting in DPD for weeks. Customer service have been completely unhelpful in their responses and supposedly escalated the non delivery with the courier and I am to let them know if it turns up in the meantime. Sorry, but if it turns up in the meantime its going to be dead, its sat there for weeks, its a live plant!! As far as I am concerned they may have a fabulous product but I will not be ordering from them again. That's £50 down the drain!!

Thank you for your feedback, and we're very sorry for the frustration and inconvenience this situation has caused — particularly as the order was intended as a birthday gift.

We want to reassure you that our customer service team has been in contact and actively tried to resolve this issue with DPD as soon as we were made aware of the delay. Unfortunately, when we were unable to locate the parcel through the courier, we immediately arranged for a replacement peony plant to be sent out to you to correct the error and ensure your recipient still received a healthy, high-quality plant.

We completely understand your concern — live plants should never be left sitting in transit for that long — and we agree that this situation was not acceptable. While courier delays are out of our direct control, we always aim to put things right as quickly as possible once we’re aware of a problem. Every effort was made by our team to reach a favourable outcome.

We genuinely hope the replacement reached you in good condition, and we appreciate your patience and understanding. If there’s anything further we can do, please don’t hesitate to reach out and email the team at customerservice@primrosehall.co.uk

Despite following the planting instructions the plant suffered from Botrytis paeonise, not what I was expecting from a medal winning grower.

Thank you for your feedback, and we're sorry to hear your peony developed Botrytis paeoniae — we completely understand your disappointment.

Please rest assured that the plant would not have left our nursery showing any signs of disease. All our peonies are thoroughly checked before dispatch to ensure they are strong, healthy, and disease-free. Botrytis is an environmental airborn fungal issue that can develop after planting, especially in damp or humid conditions, and is unfortunately something even the healthiest peonies can occasionally be affected by.

To help manage it, we recommend removing any affected leaves or stems immediately and disposing of them (not composting). Good airflow around the plant, well-drained soil, and avoiding overhead watering can also help prevent future outbreaks.

We’re happy to offer further advice specific to your plant and growing conditions — please feel free to contact us at customerservice@primrosehall.co.uk directly with photos if helpful. We’re here to support you and ensure your peony thrives.

Excellent peony plant and service overall

Delivery was a bit slow (it took full 10 days for dispatch) but it was over the period of the Chelsea Flower Show so I guess that caused delays. Once despatched though, the plant arrived the next day.
The peony plant itself was in excellent conditions, it even arrived with 2 ready to pop flowers that I got to enjoy. So definitely good quality plants provided and I would buy again from them.

Thank you so much for your kind review — we're really pleased to hear the peony arrived in excellent condition and that you were able to enjoy its beautiful blooms!

We do appreciate your patience regarding the dispatch time. As you noted, your order was placed during the busy Chelsea Flower Show period, which can understandably cause a slight delay. As outlined in our terms and conditions, during peak peony season (May & June) delivery can take up to 28 days — though we always aim to dispatch sooner whenever possible.

It’s great to hear that once on its way, your plant arrived quickly and in such good shape. Thank you again for your support, and we look forward to sending more peonies your way in the future!

silly me believed them

I bought one Jacorma peony from Primrose Hall Peonies and I paid £45.95 for it including P&P- I expect that they really do what they promise 'We nurture all of our plants until they are at least 5 years old ensuring they are well established mature flowering Paeonia plants when they are sent off to their new home' .Hahaha naive me - I get plant with two barely grown branches...definitely not 5 years old plant, 5 months maybe - and yes, they totally ignore me when I contact them to complain.

Thank you for your feedback, and we're genuinely sorry to hear that you were disappointed with the Jacorma peony you received.

We want to assure you that all of our peonies are indeed nurtured for a minimum of 5 years before they leave our nursery, as stated. These mature plants are cut back and carefully lifted during dormancy in Autumn to be potted for sale the following Spring. Depending on the time of year and growing conditions, some plants may look smaller above ground — especially if they are focusing energy on root development and have been moved as these would have been. Please plant your peony following our care guide instructions, taking care to not plant it too deep and in a sunny position and we are sure you will have decades of enjoyment from your new plant.

Please do email us at customerservice@primrosehall.co.uk and we’ll be happy to offer any support, growing advice or reassurance you need. We are a small family business and we do aim to answer all emails within 48-72hrs although during peak peony season when we are at flower shows this may be longer.

Thank you again for your feedback — it helps us improve, and we hope to restore your confidence in our plants and service.

Will look elsewhere in future

Buy at your own risk! They do not have a phone number and don’t respond to messages via their website. My peonies were supposedly sent over two weeks ago but there is no sign.

Strongly suggest looking elsewhere.

Update: Sporadic emails blaming the courier. No apology from the company, just apologising on behalf of the courier. Peonies finally arrived after more than a month.

Company’s reply to this review is meant for a different review.
