amazing organization!

everything on Reedsy is east to use and clear to the eye. my favorite feature is definitely the goals on the top right corner. it really help me stay on track and keep my goals in check. it also tells you how many words you need to write in a day to complete by your due date. this website is amazing for beginners (like me) and more advanced writers (not like me). i am confident that Reedsy will help you write your book in a timely and organized fashion.

I love Reedsy

I love Reedsy! I'm currently writing a book with my friends and it works so well and I can have everything in one place. The only flaw is the chapter titles, I wish I could change that.

Reedsy was an incredible help in Writing my books , The Boy From Heave & Waiting For Dad , now published !

Reedsy was an incredible help in writing and rebuilding my book . The platform made organizing chapters, fixing formatting , and correcting mistakes much easier than I expected . Even during stressful moments, Reedsy’s tools helped me stay focused on my writing instead of fighting with layout issues . It gave me confidence , clarity , and a clean professional manuscript. I truly appreciate how user friendly and supportive Reedsy was throughout the process .

The editor was professional and gave me…

The editor was professional and gave me insightful information to improve my story and provided me with encouraging Feedback. The critique helped me to see what I needed to improve. The Price was a little bit higher, however, I'm thankful I found Reedsy. I'll be using them again to find an editor for my next project.

I didn't have a great experience with this platform!

As a first-time book writer, I know that I have a lot to learn about how the editing and publishing process works. After doing some research online, I found Reedsy, and readily joined (should have looked at some reviews first!). I found two suitable editors, but the one closest to me, which would have made a meeting possible, took some time to answer my reply to his e-mail, while the other one was waiting, reason why I contacted him to see if he was still interested. He was, and I was happy about it, but he seemed to be an incredibly busy man, which worried me. How was someone who is so very busy with his main job, have the time to edit my book? Also, he never reacted to the fact that I mentioned that I live quite close by, which I found strange, whether he would accept meeting or not.

I asked questions about the website, and started to have ever more difficulty obtaining answers, and had problems navigating it, which I didn't find intuitive at all! They did answer the first questions, but then either didn't answer at all, or would take quite a few days. That didn't seem ideal to me. At a certain point in time, I couldn't even send more requests, because two of the editors I had contacted already where still on the list, and there was nothing I could do delete them. Eventually, I started to wonder how they knew if the editors were genuine, and whether they would just be using AI.

I did contact that first editor outside of Reedsy, to make sure that he really existed, but he told me, through Reedsy, that he does not work outside of the platform, meaning, we would never have any contact in person, never a phone call, nothing. I thought that Reedsy was just a platform to put professionals in contact with the writers? And when I found out, through the reviews here, that they take 20% of everything you pay, which means that you pay 20% more, that didn't feel right either. I am now looking for a freelancer, who really wants to work with me. This is a true story about severe Emotional Domestic Abuse, which I think is very important bring out in the open!!! Too many women are suffering and have been for a very long time, but it will rise or fall with a great editor, who, maybe also manages to help me to find a great publisher!

I didn't need all the stress Reedsy created. The sad part is that there are more of these sites (maybe belonging to the same people), and that is not what I am after. But there must be great freelance editors out there????? It is a pity that we can't contact the reviewers here.................. they would be a great source of information! Sadly, the world is not a trustworthy place anymore, and many people are just after a quick buck!

UPDATE: Whether an editor would agree to meet or not, that is indeed their choice, but politely informing me that they wouldn't do it, would be a great thing. As I pointed out, I am new at this, so, dialogue is a very useful thing! Why did I try to find the editor? Simply because I didn't believe anymore that he was a real person. As we know, this day and age, no one knows who is real and not. Reedsy stopped answering my questions, no matter whether I sent them through the chat, or e-mail, no one answered. Then I answered the editor's last message, and got a message back saying that the message wouldn't be delivered. Also, I couldn't send anymore requests, as I explained, either, because he and another one would have received the request too, and it seemed crazy to send a request to someone I was already in contact with. Anyway, there should be a way to choose exactly who one wanted to contact! But no one ever answered that question either! All in all, I wanted to know whether he really was the person on the site, and if not, whether he knew what was going on. I think that this day and age that is the thing to do. It was never meant to work with him outside of the platform, if those were not the rules, in case he was the same person who was on the platform. I actually never thought that after the introduction, one would be tied to the website until the end, and anyone would have access to the manuscript! There was also the matter of an editor I contacted, who, just a few hours later (nighttime here in the UK), declined because I had been unresponsive. I contacted the admins, never heard anything back. That said, my journey continues! By the way, as far as the 10% payable from each person concerned, the writer in fact pays 20%, as it is budged in the price they pay! You just get 20% on the top. But, that is an agreement, so, fair enough!

Dear Francesca, I'm sorry you had a negative experience on Reedsy.

Based on your review, I can confirm that Reedsy (or any online platform, for that matter), is definitely not the place for you.

To offer a bit of perspective, yes, we do charge fees if and when you hire an editor, illustrator, marketer, or other professional through Reedsy. The fees are 10% on each side. While you may find this "doesn't feel right," this is our *business model*. We wouldn't be able to run Reedsy in the first place if we didn't charge any fees… This allows us to offer a great number of collaboration tools, including secure payment, messages, file-sharing, project management, and calls with automated transcripts — all in one place. Not to mention that any projects through Reedsy are covered by our Project Protection Policy: https://reedsy.com/faq/common-questions/project-protection — an additional safety net for authors.

Regarding the editors on Reedsy, most (if not all) of them are busy professionals. We are extremely selective in terms of who we allow on the Marketplace, and all of them are consummate professionals that are usually booked up weeks, if not months in advance. They are definitely not "AI", as we verify the identity of each and every one. We only allow you to reach out to a maximum of five at a time to respect their time.

While some may be open to meeting up in person, this is really not the norm (whether on Reedsy or in editing in general). It's something you can ask about, but don't be surprised if they politely ignore, or decline, the request.

Finally, I'll point out that contacting Reedsy editors outside of Reedsy, as you did, is a massive violation of our Terms of Use, and makes you liable to pay us an Introduction Fee, as outlined in our Terms of Use. This is the reason why editors will refuse to work with you outside of the platform. You can, however, definitely have calls with editors through Reedsy.

All in all, I really believe Reedsy wasn't the right place for you. That said, I'd also encourage you to change your mindset and expectations regarding professional editors. Most of them won't be able to meet in person, and the likelihood that they'll champion your book to a publisher is low as well (that can certainly happen, but it's extremely rare).

In any case, I do wish you the very best of luck finding an editor, and with your book in general. I agree that it is an important story to get out there, and I hope you can do so in a way that works best for you — whether Reedsy is involved or not.

Excellent work!

I found Sebastian Cudicio through Reedsy after interviewing several designers from different platforms and doing careful research. Reedsy made it easy to compare professionals, review credentials, and move forward with confidence.
Sebastian designed the complete visual identity of my book, including six original illustrations, five symbolic illustrations and one additional detailed illustration. Each piece was thoughtful, cohesive, and beautifully aligned with the depth and meaning of the book.
As a first-time author, I especially appreciated how professional and responsive the entire experience was. Sebastian was clear, prompt, and patient with my questions, and the Reedsy platform itself provided a smooth, well-structured process from start to finish.
Now that the project is complete, I can confidently say that working with Sebastian through Reedsy was an excellent decision. I would recommend both Sebastian and Reedsy to authors looking for high-quality creative talent and a reliable, professional platform.

Writers - Reedsy has what you need to self-publish

When my publisher hit problems, I decided to self-publish my book. I was expecting a steep learning curve.

Then I discovered Reedsy. The process of editing and formatting the manuscript is easy, and produces a professional result. Even better, there are support materials for every aspect of the process.

All of this is free. There’s no catch. You can even keep a back up copy in docx format.

Of course, there are premium services, and there’s a thriving marketplace of services for cover design and the like. That’s all optional.

This is a terrific resource for any writer.

At 74, First Time Author

At 74, and writing my first and probably only book, Reedsy has been a godsend. The information available and the quick responses from those who I asked to peruse my work to see if it had ANY possibility to be published has been nothing short of fantastic.

A great place to find professional cover designers

I found Reedsy very easy to use. I was able to view the work of several professional cover designers and obtain quotes from them. All correspondence and payment went through the Reedsy platform, giving a secure record of the process.
I also used the free Reedsy platform to create epubs of three other books. Again, it was easy to use and I was very happy with the final product.
I'd definitely recommend Reedsy.

Horrible experience

Horrible experience. Don't waste your money. The Designers for hire, have to charge you more through Reedsy, they charge an extra 20% more. It's a rip off. Many of the designers aren't who they claim they are, so please be vigilant, request a zoom meet. I was ripped off, had the worst, design job done, a waste of over 1k, then had to look for another who didn't understand what I was requesting. All these designers aren't even from the US. They don't even know how to prepare an ebook or prepare for submission through Barnes & Noble or Amazon?? And they're paid professionals? Right. Don't throw your money away here. All a scam. I lost money on two horrible experiences and still do not have a book.

First off it's a Junior's book, and thank-you for the exploitation of my name- shows the unprofessionalism on your behalf. You can block me with pleasure, because you are just crooks. I would never recommend your service to anyone. There are other competitors out there, choose them instead!
I like how you cut and edit only what you'd like to reveal, just like an interview.
Thanks Trustpilot for also respecting my privacy.

Reply from Reedsy

Dear Cynthia, first of all, I'm sorry that you had a negative experience on Reedsy. Usually, when an author has issues with every single person they hire to help on their book, the problem is not with the professionals in question, but with the author themselves. This is unfortunately no exception.

To answer your review point by point:
1. Yes, Reedsy charges a 20% fee (10% from the author, and 10% from the service provider). This is basically our business model, and we make this clear pretty much everywhere: https://reedsy.com/faq/common-questions/fees/reedsy-cost

2. All designers (and other service providers) on Reedsy definitely are who they claim to be. Every applicant is screened and undergoes ID verification. The fact some designers don't take on zoom meetings is because they believe they are not necessary for them to fulfil their obligations, and would take (paid) time from them that would be better invested in creating the designs. That said, if Zoom meetings are non-negotiable for you, you can definitely mention this in your brief and you will find many designers who will be more than happy to offer those.

3. No, you were not ripped off, nor had a bad design job done. In fact, when you received the designed book back from the first designer, these were your words: "I downloaded the Kindle Previewer, all looks fabulous! Thank-you again Veronica for all your help. The book came together nicely. I appreciate your work." And you rated her work 4.5/5.

4. You later complained, both to the designer and to our support team, that Barnes & Noble didn't accept the fixed-layout EPUB file supplied by the designer. The designer kindly explained to you that B&N only accepts reflowable EPUBs, and that those aren't ideal for children's books, as they break apart the text and images. This was confirmed by our team (and will be confirmed by any other source you may consult on the matter: you shouldn't use reflowable EPUBs for illustrated picture books).

5. Despite having all the design files you needed to publish the book, you insisted on getting a refund (which we declined) and hired another designer through Reedsy. This second designer tried to work with you until you, again, came at an impass.

I want to stress that *all* the issues you have had with professionals on Reedsy stem from the fact you have made no research on the market you are writing in (children's picture books), and therefore request things that are either not possible, or shouldn't be done. Any proper design professional will tell you that, but instead of trusting their knowledge from decades of expertise, you decide they're "a scam".

I would very much encourage you to take a step back on your entire project, and go back, with humility, to all the advice our professionals gave you. To recap this advice:
- A picture book of 5,000 words is not a children's picture book. That just doesn't exist in the market — it's not a thing. 5000 words is
actually Chapter Book length which usually prints black and white (incuding illustrations) internally with a colour cover.
- At the size required for this particular age group, the type must be a minimum of 16pt to remain readable. So it can't be "fit within existing illustrations."
- Reflowable EPUBs are not meant for picture books (or any heavily illustrated books where text and pictures go together and shouldn't be separated, for that matter).

I sincerely hope you will do more research before you get this book out there, and that if you hire service providers elsewhere, you actually trust their guidance.

With all this said, considering the above, we have blocked your Reedsy account so you may not contact any other professionals through Reedsy.
