SCAM. Experian says Prevention Foundation is being wound up
I had exactly the same experiencer today - a woman called claiming that I'd agreed to pay £199 for some booklets back in Fe 2020. I said I recalled the conversation but didn't recall any conversation about money. She also offered me £30 off If I paid by card today which I declined. It's been such a year I asked her to email me the invoice while I checked them out and saw this negative sentiment and so I credit-checked with Experian and saw that a resolution has been passed to wind up the company.
Scam - Company about to be struck off
Please do not even give these your time. Pushy woman on phone, cons you into thinking you have agreed to something you haven't. Next thing, invoice and sample in post. £200 invoice. Companies House striking off applied for within 3 days of invoice date. Intention is to take your money and disappear. BEWARE!
scammers
Had a lady phone me today claiming that she had spoken to me back in February. She explained that the booklets had now gone out to schools in the local area and did I have a preference as to where they were sent? She then asked where to send the invoice for £189 and if I paid on a debit or credit card then a discount of 30% would be applied to the total amount. I work for a charity and we just wouldn't agree to any kind of sponsorship of this nature. This is definitely a scam. Beware people!
Scammers
Scammers. Claimed that in a previous conversation at the beginning of the year I had agreed to sponsor a booklet on bullying. Absolute BS. I politley declined and advise anyone else to do the same.
It sickens me that these scammers are…
It sickens me that these scammers are actually trying to take money from genuine charities. The High Court have already shut them down, but they just change their name and continue with their cold calling ("How are you, thanks for supporting our bullying campaign earlier in the year, where would you like us to send the invoice"). Rather than shutting down the company, the Courts should really try and shut down the Directors.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS TRUST ME
AVOID AT ALL COSTS - SCAMMED MY FATHER IN LAW OVER £600!
ITS ALL LIES.
PUSHY WOMEN ON PHONE, DO NOT AGREE TO ANY OF IT.
Seems like a carefully thought out scam, be careful!!!
NOTE THEY HAVE CHANGE THERE NAME ON COMPANIES HOUSE AND NOW GO BY "THE PREVENTION FOUNDATION C.I.C."
Had a call from a lady thanking me for agreeing to sponsor "bullying awareness" books which I apparently agreed to sponsor back January 2020 for a local school in need. Was abit confused but carried on listening to her whilst she explained that a personal thank you will sent out to me in the post and my business will get mentions on social media. She the swiftly moved onto to an invoice of £499, asking if I would like it address to myself or made out in the company name. At which point, I kindly interrupted letting her know that I am the only person in my business who would authorize such a sponsorship and cannot for the life of me remember agreeing to any such sponsorship back in January 2020.
I then asked her to check for records of who I had spoken to back in January. This was intentional as at the start of the call she said I had spoke to her back in January. She went quiet and said "oh, I will pass this onto enquiries and get them to call you back."
And that was it. Well, I did try to call the number back but it goes through to a robot sounding guy saying the person is unavailable.
They're trying it on with me now
They're trying it on with me now. An abrupt lady named Sarah has been pestering for days now. I will not pay after reading these reviews. I never received a call and definitely wouldn't agree to paying such high prices. We do a fair bit of charity work but they are fundraisers.
Thank you to all who have shared experiences
Be very aware this is a scam company…
Be very aware this is a scam company trying to tell people they have already sponsored a school thanking them for their sponsorship and who do you want to nominate it to. Followed up by an invoice or if you are lucky payment over the phone which will save you £20 today for the grand price £189!! As previously stated the original company called The Safety Guide Foundation CIC was taken to the high Court for their practices and then in June 2020 renamed The Prevention Foundation CIC but carrying on in the same way as the old company just with a different named Director. Now Robin Reid can take the credit for these unethical practises.
SCAM!!!
SCAM!!!
Like so many other GENUINE reviews on here. We have been contacted by 'The Prevention Foundation' aka 'Safety Guide Foundation' with no Registered Charity number - with bullying tactics saying that we had previously agreed over the phone to pay over £200. Which was a lie.
As another reviewer pointed out "google search "Courts shut down rogue education publisher"" that gives a better indication of their tactics.
Courts shut down rogue education publisher
And finally some good news.
I can't post the link, but do a Google search for
"Courts shut down rogue education publisher"
Safety Guide Ltd was wound up in the public interest in the High Court in Manchester before District Judge Bever on 4 June 2020. The Official Receiver has been appointed as the Liquidator.
In considering the petition, the court heard that Safety Guide sold sponsorship opportunities to businesses with the promise that their business name would feature in educational booklets sent to schools, focussing on knife-crime and bullying.
The company began trading in 2016 and targeted small businesses, having purchased contact details from data suppliers, before making unsolicited sales calls.
Following complaints, however, investigators from the Insolvency Service carried out confidential enquiries into the Safety Guide’s practices and established that the company’s sales staff made misleading claims to persuade customers to sponsor the educational booklets.
Tactics included misleading customers by stating that they had previously entered into a verbal contract to provide sponsorship and that the booklets were already printed with the customer’s name included.
Investigators found that no previous agreement had been sought and the booklets were printed in bulk and the sponsor’s name and details were added only after they had paid Safety Guide. Some of the schools who received the booklets also questioned their educational value.
Safety Guide gave the impression in sales calls that it was a not-for-profit organisation and claimed to be offering booklets as part of a time-limited campaign. This suggested to potential sponsors that Safety Guide was working closely with schools and education authorities, which was not the case.
Through these inappropriate sales practices, the book publisher secured just over £2.5million by February 2019. However, investigators found Safety Guide’s accounting records to be inadequate and were unable to verify outgoings, including payment for sub-contract labour of more than £900,000.
Additionally, payments of a similar amount were made to employees but not accounted for via the company’s payroll system and PAYE records.
The Court wound the company up on the grounds that Safety Guide traded with a lack of commercial probity, engaged in misleading and aggressive sales practices, and failed to maintain, preserve or deliver up adequate accounting records.
David Hope, Chief Investigator for the Insolvency Service, said:
This company acted with a lack of integrity and used dubious sales tactics to elicit significant funds from small businesses.
Thankfully the court recognised the severity of the misconduct and now that the company has been wound-up, the Official Receiver can undertake further enquiries into Safety Guide’s practices, including those of the directors.
All public enquiries concerning the affairs of the company should be directed to the Official Receiver:
