Great programs for pre-med students. I hope they will offer a 300 level parasitology class as well, like the class offered at New England University Online or university of Florida.

My experience was life changing! I took a total of 3 AS courses in a span of 17 weeks and it allowed me to make the deadline for my PharmD. Courses are challenging, they require dedication, and time. All the tools are available to succeed, and staff are more than willing to work with you. The asynchronous courses allowed me to work on my own pace and gave me the freedom to enroll in the courses I needed to meet my prerequisites in a short period of time, something I couldn’t do in a traditional semester long institution. I strongly believe in SCUHS Accelerated courses system!

There was hardly any teaching. The actual professor did not teach a thing and the lectures were pre-recorded by students whom we had never met and who were all over the place commonly going rogue away from the lecture slides.

The fast pace of the courses are convenient, however some of the instructors seem a bit confused with the core focus … I’ve done well in past courses but this summer was a terrible experience for me… lab instructor was great and to the point but idk what happened with the lecture instructor. Needless to say it was a complete waste of my money…

I like the ease of the online course and the professor was fine, what I didn’t like was the book used:
It used a bad bias version of the Hippocratic Oath which I found very offensive. And it also used prefixes and suffixes that are in line with the real word. I found the book outdated.
Also we were not told ahead of time we needed a web camera which I had to buy and then I had to buy a converter (which I want aware it needed until it arrived) which caused me to do the video late and I lost points. Had I known the course needed a Camera before hand I would have bought it and not had to wait to send in the video. I explained the situation to the professor but still had points taken off

The short courses creates flexibility for students but still include all necessary information. Also, the professors are very good and offer many opportunities for additional help if the students are having trouble

It was easy to navigate especially with a full time job I was able to do the assignments on my own time.

Professor was easily accessible for any issues. Class assignments were very interactive and engaged my learning. I would definitely recommend any student who needs to retake a course with SCU. It’s also fairly affordable!

I felt that this course was designed too much like one which would be taken at a normal pace with the homework formatting. Ultimately the readings and homework assignments were not overly beneficial to my studying and took a good chunk of time away from my studying because of how much material there was to complete. At least it was completion based. Personally, I also had problems with the instructor's scheduling for this course as well. There were supposed to be 3 review sessions (one for each exam), however if the meeting was not rescheduled to an earlier or later time at the last minute, it was just flat canceled. This made it difficult to attend the review sessions to get help and get the extra credit boost from attending. I understand that this is an accelerated course and so it is bound to feel rushed, however, I feel that there has been so much busy work in this course that it started to hinder my studying because there was not enough time in the week to get it all done.

I dislike that each lecture was given by someone different with a different teaching style and we weren't able to have consistency throughout.

That I was able to manage my class I needed for the pharmacy program as the same time I was working

I really enjoyed my class and my teachers, was a great experience. The curriculum was a challenge but I liked how everything was structured.

The professor was very unhelpful and didn't give us the needed materials until we basically begged for them.

These asynchronous online courses were so convenient for my busy life, working full time. It allowed me to get everything done on my own time and actually LEARN the material.

I took the SCUHS Accelerated Statistics class to fulfill a requirement for graduate school. I chose this program because I needed to have the class finished and transcript sent by the time of orientation. The statistics class was nearly $1600 once you paid the fees to register. To be honest, I was quite disappointed with the course. I have taken other online, asynchronous courses in the past that involve pre-recorded lectures by the professor with other supplemental materials, and this course was not that. Basically, you pay $1600 for access to a series of error-filled PowerPoints that are your "textbook", an online service through McGraw Hill that will provide you with 20-40 videos per week that serve as the "lectures", around 45 homework questions that can have up to 5 subquestions, and links to YouTube videos that I'm not sure the school has the rights to use. From the start, the class was disorganized. There is limited communication with the professor (who really just acts more as a supervisor, since most of the instruction comes from The Organic Chemistry Tutor YouTube channel), and at first we were told that graphing calculators would not be allowed for this class. That initially was not a problem; however, the lecture videos and textbook slides both take time to explain how to use certain functions on the graphing calculators AND only an hour is given for each exam, making performing a standard deviation calculation using a standard scientific calculator nearly impossible.
Beyond those issues, I took an exam that had an incomplete question. It gave the beginning part of a question and the associated data and nothing else. As I was in the middle of the exam, I reached out to the proctor who couldn't help and after submitting the exam, asked the professor to review the question. It really bothered me that I paid that much money to never have any instruction from the professor of the course, errors in the textbook made learning the material confusing at times (such as incorrect notation in an equation where all the variables are referred to as p), and things generally seemed incomplete. Although I did well in the class, I essentially paid money to teach myself with materials that were free.
While this class is convenient if you are in a time crunch, I wouldn't recommend it anyone. If learning on your own is not your strong suit, you will struggle with this class. It can be time consuming trying to parse the textbook and finish all of the homework questions in addition to the weekly discussion board requirements and quizzes. There are plenty of other schools that offer pre-requisite courses that are cheaper, actually taught by a professor, and more complete.
It’s by no means easy. Exams are scheduled close together (Exam 1 covers 8 chapters) and homework is long and tedious. The professor takes a long time to respond if he responds. It’s really expensive too.

They are the worse of the worse. The discussions, quizzes, adaptive reading, homeworks, exams are ridiculously high. If someone works and take only 1 class at this school trust me you will have no time not eat, sleep or anything. The amount of work expected to do in Biochemistry is extremely high. The Professor wants to give a one month worth of work in 1 week. Even if you don't work you will have no time to do everything they ask. I give you an example. If week 1 have 4 to 8 chapters you have to take each chapter a long homework for each yes you read it right and on top of that you have to do each chapter and adaptive reading which is like a quiz/homework, and then you have to take a quiz at the end but the discussion you need to do a 200 words for doing it and answer 2 student at 200 words which that place you at 600 words per discussions. I mean wow this is ridiculous. This university needs the professor of Biochemistry to teach the most important not to give you so much information and so much volume of work to make out the original 4 months in a normal semester. I think if they teach the importance the volume doesn't have to be so crazy. I hardly sleep because working full time and taking only 1 accelerated course the amount of work you do it's like you have 5 or more classes at one sitting and that's is why I think it's way to ridiculous. I'm very disappointed they need to fix this because other students are clueless and you don't learn anything or grasp nothing since you have so much work it does not give you any time to study for the exams and like I said before you will have to study day and night and be lack of sleep not even med school was like this undergrad biochemistry class. If you thinking to take prerequisite u suggest you to go to another school and take it like a normal semester if you want to learn the material. Otherwise u don't care about GPA or learning then you can go to this school just to get the class but if you don't learn biochemistry I will tell you by experience it will suck in med school trust me. So listen carefully and study biochemistry in a regular way like a semester where you can grasp the material and actually learn it. Good luck

Great ease of applying and instructions when beginning classes. The accessibility was great for my lifestyle. Professors were helpful and knowledgeable when approached during office hours

My experience with SCUHS accelerated Science Courses was amazing. I love how organized everything was. All the assignments that were due each week were laid out and was easy to keep up with even though it was a 5 week course. The weekly lecture videos with questions during them was probably my favorite part of the physiology class I took. Well done with the structure given how short the course was and I still learned a lot!
