Don't try to get a mortgage with Clydsdale. 8 weeks of waiting with no update. Went elsewhere and got approved in a week. Shouldn't be allowed honestly.

Worst bank I've ever had to deal with

Worst bank I've ever had to deal with. I opened a business savings account with Virgin that advertised 1% interest on savings. Account was set up and appeared on Internet but showed 0.1% interest rate. I have now tried 5 times over the last month to contact their customer service line, each time I have hung on for over 30 minutes with no answer. I give up DO NOT USE THIS BANK.

Pathetic customer service

Pathetic customer service. So far I have spent over 3 hours trying to reach them but with no success. I would not recommend Clydesdale/Yorkshire/Virgin Bank to anyone. I am in the process of closing my mortgage account with Clydesdale Bank. Who wants have accounts with these awful organisations???

102 minutes to answer

On hold for 47 minutes to speak about making an mortgage overpayment & was cut off. Answered next time after 55 minutes waiting. In fairness, the fella was apologetic as well as being polite & helpful

These clowns are the back office for Virgin Money Isa's. Whilst waiting for nearly an hour for login help, I had time to open another ISA elsewhere and arrange a transfer to them. Way to lose a substantial 5 figure investment Clydesdale/Virgin. Bye.

Just wanted a mortgage statement

Just wanted a mortgage statement - no discernible way to request one - waited for their “can we help” line - 25 minutes in, I get to speak to an advisor who goes through the whole process then decides she can’t see the info on the screen, she won’t request one for me - connects me to the mortgage department.

Essentially this restarts the wait so is another 30 mins wait.

What the actual f… Clydesdale - you should be ashamed, sort this out. How can any business be as contemptuous as this towards their customers and still survive?!

Dreadful and glacial service

Applied for a re-mortgage through a broker. They offered a good rate for the lending required. Unfortunately that's the point at which the good stopped.

First, they tried to take the product fee without informing me first at the end of the month. Surprisingly enough, the funds weren't there. I was told I then had to make the payment over the phone. I ended up spending a total of 3.5 hours on hold over the course of two weeks during office hours. This is in order to give them money, bear in mind. I don't have that kind of time available (and who with a 9-5 job does?) - I had to take time out of work to sit on hold - on two occasions only to run out of time and have to hang up. Why they couldn't just accept payment online - or even just retry the payment - is beyond me.

Next, they managed to try to raise a mortgage against the wrong property (they tried to do the entire block of flats instead of just my property!) - their solicitors were very confused and this delayed the process even further.

They then finally requested a valuation through a company who came to the (perplexing) conclusion that my property was worth 10% less than it was when I bought it 2 years ago. We can only assume that this was a result of a desktop study that saw a similar (but much more dilapidated, and vaccant for 10 years) flat in the block selling for that exact amount they quoted - rather than actually looking at the property they were going to lend on. We've since had another valuation which suggested a much higher value.

Our broker asked to go through an appeals process, which took them 2 weeks to come back about even what the process was, let alone considering the details put to them.

This whole shambles took place over 6-7 months - during which time interest rates soared. We lost hundreds of pounds to our existing tracker mortgage as a result of this slow service.

We decided that we wanted to withdraw from the process rather than bother to appeal. 3 weeks later and we're still waiting for our product fee back. If they tell me to phone them and stay on hold for 3 hours again, I'll be extremely upset.

There is zero chance I'll every be using is bank ever again. STEER WELL CLEAR.

Mortgage

Useless organisation, avoid at all costs, passed affordability easy, waited 8 weeks for an update. Both my partner and I had pay rises in the meantime. To be told declined with no prospect of appeal despite having 4x house hold take home to the mortgage cost, no change to credit profile only positive improvements. Interest rates have now gone up and have to start the process again with the likelihood our seller will pull out now, dream home lost due to these cowboys. Happy to take £1000 upfront for arrangement fee though

The worst lying company in the UK

The worst company in the UK, applied for remortgage via a broker in Feb 2022. Passed all the checks and paid the fees, uploaded all the paper work, to be told there is a 7 week wait, had to wait 8 weeks for their valuation visit by a surveyor who done a detailed online assessment with photos and measurements, of both inside and outside our building , which was approved, to then have to wait 15 weeks to be told 1) they don’t offer 90 LTV on my type of building any more cas it’s over 4 floors, this came into effect on the 19th July 2022. Funny that my application was submitted in February!! How very convenient, the lies keep on coming, so if you want to proceed it’s another 10k to find, as the LTV is now 85% 2) also the EWS1 fire safety form that was commissioned by Barrett london homes needs to be uploaded to a national fire register Portal that does not work! It good old Clydesdale Bank insist it must be used, the contractor commissioned by Barrett told me it does not work and they will happily write or validate there approved surveys and reports but Clydesdale will not accept any other format, now Clydesdale you might want to tell all who have the misfortune of applying with you at THE START OF THR PROCESS NOT 15 WEEKS IN!!! AVOID THIS SHAMBLES OF A COMPANY AT ALL
COST, the rates have gone by over 1.6 % since I started this process with the worse financial company I have ever had the misfortune to come across, THEY LIE, Do not care about customer service!! Really avoid the misery of Clydesdale utterly appalling they should be embarrassed and stuck off I will be making a massive complaint to the financial ombudsman to get them closed down or at least fined for there lying services!!! One star is too good for them, I have reached out to there CEO DAVID DUFFY!! What you quote as “ transforming the financial markets and turning the way we bank on its head” well done on achieving that ! Disgusting banking!! You have succeeded in all the wrong ways!! Shame on you and your inefficient board of directors!! I am sure Richard Branson is very “ happy with your ignorance to his customers” and the damage you are all doing to the Virgin Brand! I will be encouraging everyone I know to drop anything to do with “Virgin” so so disgusting the way you are conning people during a financial crisis!! Please do respond preferably at director level! But if cause you will not fix anything it’s numbers game to you lot!! Shambles utter shambles !! You have been warned do not do business with VIRGIN MONEY!!

Absolute rubbish

Absolute rubbish, been waiting on hold for nearly an hour to be continually told 'my call is important to them'. My call is not important otherwise you would invest more in your customer service team!

Was going to roll over a fixed term savings account - after waiting so long decided to close it instead.

Your loss Clydesdale Bank!

Rubbish, rubbish rubbish!!

It seems the reviews for this bank are…

It seems the reviews for this bank are the same as for Virgin money i.e both a shambles but is it Virgin causing the problem or is it Clydesdale giving Virgin a bad name. Has anyone received the virgin 20000 points reward for switching . I am going to make a complaint to the financial ombudsman for being offered a reward to switch bank accounts but not receiving it .

If I could give 0 stars then I would.

If I could give 0 stars then I would.

Tried to get additional borrowing on the mortgage. Taken 3 months to make some steps forward but still no sign of the funds. Completely sailed through affordability checks but still was not allowed the advertised 90% LTV due to an “other” reason which was not allowed to be explained to us. No response or updates in the last 5 weeks and I called last week to be put on hold for 85 minutes to be told that I will have a call in the next 24 hours as the file had been checked that day. A week later and still no updates/ calls and emails ignored.

Will be moving all of our business away from the bank at the next available opportunity.

An absolute shambles from start to finish

An absolute shambles from start to finish. If I could give Clydesdale a 0-star review I would. We applied in February when the rates were quite considerably better than they are now. Had a sale for a house in Bristol agreed. Clydesdale took a ridiculous 2.5 months from submission of all requested paperwork – to actually process the application and send an offer! Caused all manner of problems, and we were on the verge of starting the process again with a different broker/lender when they suddenly came through. Unfortunately, right at the point they did we decided to pull out of that house due to the results of the survey. Clydesdale, according to our broker, had always been happy to honour previously agreed rates on a different property (which makes sense, as the money is secured by them at that rate from their lender at the time anyway), and we would only have to pay a penalty of perhaps £300-400 for porting the mortgage on. New property purchase agreed within two weeks of the first falling through (less than a month since receiving Clydesdale's actual mortgage offer), the broker then tells us Clydesdale have rejected the switch, that this is a new matter of policy for them, and that there's absolutely nothing we can do about it as it's their choice whether to honour the original offer or not. We've now had to start the whole process again from scratch with a different bank and will be paying something like £1500 per year more. Thanks Clydesdale/Virgin Money. Avoid like the plague.

In December 2021 the Spanish Tax…

In December 2021 the Spanish Tax Authorities attempted to pay 8,000 Euros into one of my 2 Clydesdale Accounts. This was a Capital Gains Tax refund on our house in Spain which we sold in March 2021. For some unknown reason the Clydesdale refused this payment. I was not informed by the Clydesdale of this and I didn’t find this out until May 2022. It was only when I spoke to my Spanish Lawyer as to when I could expect payment did we discover what had happened. She was in touch with the tax authorities who sent her a letter explaining what had transpired. The Clydesdale 7 weeks after I was in touch with them have still not allocated my case. They say they are still dealing with complaints going back to February. Meanwhile I still have not received payment 7 months after the Clydesdales incompetence. I have been with the Clydesdale for over 30 years but since they have merged with Virgin Money their service has become dreadful. As soon as this is resolved I will be closing my accounts

40 minutes of abuse from Cloie C as didn’t listen to a single word I was saying. Her attitude towards me as a disabled customer was to treat me like dirt and refuse to anyone in an attempt to allow me the right to raise a formal complaint.

Unacceptable

Absolutely outrageous that call waiting times are over a hour. Mobile app' is also unstable and the 'live chat' facility is utterly laughable. In this day and age wait times of this scale are completely unacceptable. Get your finger out, Clydesdale, or you'll find yourself losing another customer
