Rude customer service, after renting for many months, they by force took the car without any explanation and gave a different car which was not a good color and smelled tobacco. They gave me zero explanation of why they what to exchange cars and were very rude. I don't know if I can open a case as it feels very illegal to do so. Also I very unfortunately noticed their car prices are higher and older car models, comparing to what I have found in different rentals. Avoid at all cost.

Delayed Deposit, Hidden Charges, and Poor Support Experience
I rented a car for one month, but unfortunately, the overall experience with Self Drive was disappointing—especially when it came to the security deposit and post-rental support.
After returning the car, my security deposit was held for nearly two months, which is excessive. I was initially told it would take 40 days to “mature”, and only after that could I submit a refund request. Once I did, it took an additional 15 days to process. This entire process felt unnecessarily delayed and poorly communicated.
To make matters worse, I was charged around 300 QAR in additional fees labeled as “processing” and other unclear charges—on top of the repair costs. These extra deductions were not transparently explained at the time of booking.
Another major concern was the level of customer support. During the booking phase, responses were quick and helpful. However, once I requested my refund, communication dropped significantly, and it became very difficult to get timely updates or assistance.
Overall, the lack of transparency, delayed deposit return, unexpected charges, and poor post-rental support made this a frustrating experience. I would strongly recommend improving clarity around fees, streamlining the refund process, and maintaining consistent customer support throughout the entire customer journey.

The only time you can easily reach someone is when they are trying to sell you something. The moment you have an issue, it becomes almost impossible to get in touch with anyone.
I tried multiple times to resolve a problem and either couldn’t reach support or received very poor service when I did. At one point, a representative even hung up on me, which is completely unacceptable.
The overall attitude from the team was dismissive and unhelpful. Customer support should not disappear when something goes wrong.
Would not recommend based on this experience.

They didn’t return my security deposits and no one reply from their support team to update me on my refund status. I don’t recommend dealing with them. My booking id is BH247993 and I am waiting for more than month and no response from them on email and mobile. They are not professional and have only one person eho handle new reservations only

Today is March 11. At the time of my original review, an employee of this company clearly promised that the funds would be refunded back to my account. As of today, this has still not happened.
I have now followed up again with my bank and initiated the necessary compliance and chargeback procedures in order to recover the money.
Unfortunately, this only reinforces my previous experience. Promises are made during the process but are not honored afterward. The refund that was explicitly confirmed has simply not been executed.
When reviewing the rating patterns more closely, the situation becomes even more questionable. A very large portion of the 5-star reviews appear to come from profiles with only a single review, while the 1-star reviews are detailed and describe very similar experiences: pressure tactics, broken promises, refund issues, and aggressive communication.
This creates a highly unusual rating distribution that many other reviewers have already pointed out.
From my perspective, this behavior is unacceptable. Customers should be able to rely on clear agreements and professional conduct.
Because of the unresolved refund, the broken commitments, and the overall conduct I experienced, I can only repeat my warning: proceed with extreme caution when dealing with this company.

Took a payment of £250 without my approval. I tried to contact them on our whatsapp chat for over a week but was met with no replies.
I then reached out to their sales department off my work phone number and was contacted within 5 minutes... disgusting.
The level of customer service is appalling unless they're selling you something.
The car is actually okay and got it for a decent price - But I would not use them again down to how they have acted with this.

PLEASE DO NOT BOOK THROUGH SELF DRIVE. THEY MIGHT BE CHEAP BUT ARE THE WORST RENTAL COMPANIES. THEY WILL CHARGE YOU ADDITIONAL PAYMENTS FOR MOTORING FINES YOU DID NOT COMMIT. THEY WILL NOT RETURN YOUR DEPOSIT. THEIR COMMUNICATION SKILLS ARE AWFUL. I HAVE TRIED CALLING 100s of time and sends loads of emails but didnt get a response. Also your contract will not be with self drive but with budget cars which complicates the matter more. Self Drive are just a middle person taking payment. My car was demobilised despite payments being up to date. Self Drive demanded payment for remobilisation. In total self drive owed me 2,200 AED which they did not return.DONT USE SELF DRIVE OTHERWISE YOU WILL REGRET IT.

As the business is foreign it’s very difficult to speak with anyone if something goes wrong. There is a reason why they are cheaper than other companies. Avoid.
