Conveyancing - I had to make an official complaint about the handling of my case. Not only had it taken an eternity to complete the simplest of cases but a lot of the time you have to be continually chasing Simpson Millar staff to get any action and despite signing up to a fixed fee rate, twice additional charges were attempted to be added.
The original timescales of 4-8 weeks long passed, in fact it took over 6 months to be completed. Throughout my dealings with SM there was conflicting information, no information being passed on or staff communicating with each other and constantly having to clarify with them or find out what was happening with the case.
At one point, 5 weeks passed without any work completed so an email to my case handler was sent, only to find out that she had left so I then contacted someone else, he had left the company too. Who was looking after my case? Throughout all the correspondences, emails and letters there were incorrect information which was very clear as already supplied previously several times, there is an important need to read the emails properly and get things correct but even this very basic of things they could not get right.
After about 6-8 weeks I received an email saying “There was a re-organisation and be assured that all our staff will do everything to ensure a smooth handover of your file.” I then receive an email, which I am having to explain all of the situation again. This is not acceptable, why was there no handover of information so it just felt like back to Square 1 again but already a large amount of time has passed. Some of this information could have been supplied by me weeks earlier if they could be bothered to inform me but that didn’t happen, they just sat on the case and did nothing. It has been misinformation, mistakes, constant delays, constantly changing between staff and fed small pieces of information at a time rather than at once throughout.
Then the first added charges, now it clearly states in the “Our agreement with you” it was a fixed fee price but this isn’t the case as the price quoted and price to be paid will be different. One charge for the SDLT fee was added although to be fair this was eventually waived but that isn’t the point, they tried to charge me extra for no reason especially as it was just a nil return. There were differences between the agreement and the final Completion Statement with an extra £ for the Land Registry Fee. The quote should have included the correct charge for this but it didn’t, this isn’t my problem but theirs', I signed an agreement to pay that amount. It was not an extra disbursement as it was already included in the original quote, more incompetence and they can’t even add up. Then big mistakes in an official document which would be sent to the Land Registry, it is just embarrassing, why did no one proof read this document?
Once a deadline was looming which meant paperwork would expire then panic had set in and something started to actually be done but dealing with one of the conveyancers near the end, I found him to be unprofessional, unsympathetic and unhelpful, it was like talking to a cardboard box. He said there was nothing that could happen about the fees and then proceeded to blame me for the delays. They did not supply payment details and there was nothing I could have done to speed up the process, had he sent the payment details when he said he would it wouldn’t have delayed it for another month. I’ve been put between a rock and a hard place, I had no other option but to complete and carry on using them as to instruct someone else would mean even more time lost and the whole thing would have to be started from scratch.
If I was a Director I would be embarrassed by the service you give your customers, just look on the TrustPilot reviews, there a loads of bad reviews complaining about your poor, abysmal, appalling service. I thought solicitors were supposed to be trustworthy, honest, show integrity, be transparent and reliable but unfortunately none of these qualities have been shown by SM. The extra pressure and stress they have caused is unacceptable and also cost me hundreds of pounds in lost interest and other costs because of constant delays. I instructed SM because of marketing lies, because you were a national company with a lot of expertise, a fixed fee with nothing else to pay on top and it could be completed very quickly. All are untrue, I’ve waited 6 months for completion, paid more for poor service when locally I could have saved £. The only “national” thing they are, is a national disgrace. Their level of incompetence knows no bounds, one of my most awful experiences of my life at an already very stressful time. I was completely mis-sold your services, promised lots and delivered little. This was an absolute, incompetent shambles.
Absolutely disgusting service from this company! they send misleading and conflicting information. They lied about working from home. I have had only a few emails of correspondence since 2022. By three different solicitors introducing themselves.
two of solicitors have left the company, and I am assuming the third, Keran Deep-Bharj has as well because he has not responded to my emails or letters sent to him since December last year. I have today filed a complaint to the legal Ombudsman who claims to respond in 8 weeks, that sounds better than Simpson Miller response time.

Dealing with Simpson Millar has been an absolute pleasure from beginning to end. Having tried to get a lawyer to take on my claim for asbestosis on a no win no fee basis was not easy. In fact one particular lawyer told me I had no basis for a claim.
Once I had spoken to Anthony Waddington he filled me with confidence and talked and helped me through the claim from beginning to end. Even helping me with the DWP which has now given me a monthly allowance for my disability.
I cannot stress how professional this Company has been which is a very rare quality in our society today.
Thankyou Anthony and your team. You are brilliant.

We were recommended this firm for educational support. Lucy's advice, knowledge, calm presence and ability to advocate for our needs in a multi-disciplinary meeting has been exceptional. She is fastidious, meticulous and kind. The handover to Heather was crisp, efficient, and allowed for Heather to give continued support to us and also in the eyes of the institution we were negotiating with, that our position was consistent and we were expectant of clear legal parameters and social responsibilities. We would certainly recommend this firm to other families and use them again.

Heather, Lucy and Mia have helped greatly in relation to getting the Local Authority to supply education provision for a child with special needs. This had been dragging on prior to their involvement, but with their help this has now been sorted. Communication has been good and phone calls either answered or returned in good time.

A Personal Injury Claim is something you hope not to go through too many times in your life. Stephen Matthews made the right impression with me on our first call with his expertise but maybe more importantly his compassion and empathy. My claim was concluded in efficient time and felt the compensation I received was a fair reflection of the injuries I sustained.

I had a complex case which had been delayed due to covid-19 and unforeseen circumstances. However, Steven Abraham at Simpson Millar had taken my case over. He was very efficient, diligent and reliable. If I had any queries, he took the time to explain the processes and legislation to me in detail. I have finally got my claim settled. Great work Steve! :)
