I commissioned Chris Fairhurst to handle my extremely complicated divorce. Chris is a partner at Simpson Millard and so his hourly rate is high; however after 18 months of complexity, and in the light of the final settlement, he provided good value for money. Central to my divorce was a large and complicated final salary pension. Chris worked closely with my financial advisor to understand this and ultimately position it well in the extremely painful negotiation.

I had been through a very traumatic experience which left me very vulnerable and with a fairly bleak future. It took me a long while to contact someone who could give me the advice and support that i needed. A good friend contacted Simpson Millar Solicitors for me . Initially , my case was looked at by two other legal professionals before Jodie Cook took over . The Legal Process never moves quickly and i must admit that there have been times when i wanted to throw in the towel. However, Jodie was always there for me at the end of the telephone or via email. Jodie always explained the complicated legal process and was kind and understanding at all times, encouraging me when i was at my lowest . Its taken about three years from start to finish but without Jodie i know that i wouldn't have received justice. I can't recommend her highly enough .

I was recommended by a fellow parent who has many years experience with SEN tribunals to contact a specific solicitor at Simpson Miller. I wanted to use a solicitor that was recommended as I have had an experience with solicitors in the past who I found online and sounded great, but I didn’t feel I got any useful support from them when it mattered most, sending me training advocates with little experience to argue a case, when I asked for an experienced colleague. ( This was not an SEN related experience but Community Care with a different firm ) Simpson Millar was different. The solicitor I used was experienced in this field, I chose to go with a senior partner , so it did cost more per hour, but after my previous experience, I wanted someone who knew what they were doing. I am really glad I went with SW. She took over my case from her colleague who had moved on to different pastures, so initially it made me nervous, but I had no need to worry, SW knows her stuff and was a very good communicator, despite a very busy schedule at times and unless she was in a tribunal away from the office, always responded to my emails and phone calls in a timely fashion. She also communicated when necessary with other professionals, whether independent or council , especially when I was getting nowhere and becoming frustrated. SW was always tactful, but would be blunt and straight to the point when required.
I needed Simpson Millar’s support for 10 months to get my child’s EHCP final plan agreed including a new school placement agreed. SW got the job done. She managed to get pretty much most of what we needed to be stated/ reflected on sections B, F and I on my child’s EHCP plan agreed. ( you may not be able to get everything you want in your child’s EHCP and have to be open to some negotiation, but that’s all part of the fight your solicitor is there to support you with and SW did in our case) The council finally conceded very late in the day. Due to the inevitable pandemic boosted delays we got a tribunal date set for September when the new school term already began, tribunal evidence deadlines fell into the August bank holiday period, so we didn’t hear back from the council that they had conceded until very close to the tribunal date, and it was too late to cancel by then so we had to go to tribunal as a formality only. 10 months cost £9192 worth of legal fees. This sounds a lot, but is very reasonable for a senior partner. Simpson Millar offer different payment options and a ‘capped’ payment option so I knew my total bill wouldn’t go into tens of thousands, which I had heard some worrying stories from other parent experiences with different firms. (when you do your research on reputable SEN solicitors you’ll need time to adjust and save for the reality of fees, there is no getting away from the fact that legal fees are expensive) There are cheaper reputable advocates out there ( not by much) but parents I spoke to were very frustrated by timings to respond back to them. Good SEN advocates are very busy people, you will not be their only clients, and like I say , SW was very good at communicating and I never felt lost in the ‘pile’ so to speak. I felt I had to work hard along with her, but when it’s your child, you don’t have a choice, so you want a solicitor who will work hard for you when you need them too. SW helped me get my child the right support needed. She stepped up whenever I needed her to. I know she is good at what she does and would go back to her for support in a second if I need it again. Her team at Simpson Millar were always professional, polite and helpful where possible. I have purposefully not mentioned any full names, as this is a public forum, and I wasn’t sure, but I would happily mention the name of the solicitor I used, as if you are going to pay for legal support, you want to pay for a solicitor that is worth it, and in my experience SW at Simpson Millar is.

The Spinal Injuries Association referred me to Simpson Millar for employment law advice following a spinal cord injury. Balal Qaiser at the Leeds office dealt with my case quickly and efficiently. He was supportive throughout and enabled me to achieve a good outcome while keeping costs to a minimum and factoring in my need to avoid stressful legal proceedings.

I recommend Simpson Millar to take care of the legal process of selling a house. Sophie Whitby has been outstanding all the way through. The selling of a house in the UK appears to me a process out of the middle ages, so it will test your patience but these guys will guide you through it competently. Thanks Sophie

I want to say a huge thank you to Heather Boyd, for making this process so smooth, from start to finish. She explained everything to me, very responsive to my emails and always happy to help. I couldn’t fault the service she provided us and would highly recommend her & Simpson Millar.

Went to Simpson Millar about my son’s EHCP the solicitor assigned to my sons case was so helpful and extremely knowledgeable. She was thorough in all her work and to be honest I could not have got the successful outcome if it wasn’t for her. I could never thank her enough for her time, patience and understanding of what we as a family were going through.

From the very beginning I received caring, attentive, professional and sympathetic service. Not having been in a situation like this before nor dealt with the legal profession previously I was immediately put at ease. Every thing was explained clearly and precisely. Jonathan Thursby did a wonderful job working on my behalf keeping me updated and achieved a result way beyond my expectations. I am very grateful to everyone involved in my case. I would wholeheartedly recommend Simpson Millar. Thank you all very much.

After a slightly shaky start with poor communication and being switched to a new team half why through our house sale and purchase, we can not fault the services we received to get us over the finish line for a very tricky sale and purchase in very quick time. Would definitely use Simpson Millar. Good value for money as well.

From day one we have received exceptional service from Simpson Millar, throughout our clinical negligence claim. Over the years Jodie Cook has been sincere, informative and above all else very supportive. It has been a difficult journey recollecting the events of my sons birth, however we have never felt alone.
Jodie kept us well informed and was very efficient at answering any questions, concerns or general worries. Communication was the key to this and Jodie knew this, regularly updating us on what was happening.
There are no words that can express how grateful we are to Jodie and Simpson Millar for a successful outcome for our son. Knowing he is going to be able to have the right equipment and support to live his life to his fullest potential just puts us at ease, and is such a relief.
I would highly recommend Jodie and Simpson Millar to anyone, the kind of solicitors that can get the job done but make you feel like they are just part of the family. Amazing!

If you need legal advice contact these guys! 👍🏻
I opened up a clinical negligence case on behalf of my daughter in 2011 with Simpson Millar. Had very good communication from the start and everything was always made very clear. Despite the case only closing recently, the level of care and support offered didn't falter during this time. I always felt included, updated and always had great interactions with the staff. I feel like my solicitor (and all those involved) handled my case in professional manner throughout; while also making me feel comfortable to speak openly with them. I am very happy with the commitment and hard work that was put into bringing my case to a successful end. I would definitely recommend using Simpson Millar.

Purchasing the property of a House -
Our solicitor was Sophie Whitby and her assistant Lisa Cullen who were extremely helpful from start to finish and were really great with communication despite the tough times with COVID and SDLT. Highly recommend Sophie, although we didn’t meet her face to face, she had a very approachable voice and told you all the right information and made you feel secure.
