The Tooth-cracker Menu

Second time at Six by Nico for a Christmas Night in Edinburgh. The food is always expensive and not really that great for vegetarians. Also not great if you are not drinking alcohol either. The experience was made worse as I cracked and chipped my tooth on the super hard sharp candy resulting in three days of absolute pain and a very expensive emergency dental bill when I finally got to see a dentist!! Merry Christmas!!

Food was awful and odd

Food was awful and odd. The staff were great but I think the whole concept was bad. Everyone in our party came out hungry and unimpressed. Not giving customers options on food and the food being like Frankenstein's monster isn't a good concept.

Check Your Bill

Check Your Bill

Went to Six by Nico in Birmingham. Two bottles of wine and another large glass added to the bill for a party of 4. Apparently it was accidentally added from the bar, however the additional drinks strangely matched those we had ordered. The staff quickly removed without question, although it all seemed very coincidental and strange.

Overrated experience very disappointing

We went to the Aberdeen restaurant to try the Nut Cracker 6 course tasting experience. The restaurant was not as glamorous as in there adverts and it was so hot. Tables were close together too. Our waitress was rather rude and moaned about her colleagues not helping her as we waiting for side dishes and drinks. So unprofessional. We decided to try the cocktails that went along with the courses as they sounded quite nice. But in reality they were disgusting! The 4 of us couldn’t even drink some which we fed back at the time. The food was underwhelming and the ‘experience’ ie food presentation didn’t happen. All 4 tarts were presented in 1 box not 1 box per person. They also run out of dry ice for some other courses. Due to the heat I had to take a break outside during meal as I felt sick. Lastly the price was ridiculous for what you got and we gave a cash tip and still a huge service fee was added to our bill without asking so we didn’t actually realise until we had left. Would not recommend as not value for money and definitely won’t be back.

Bristol Six by Nico Nutcraker

Went to the Nutcracker 6 course in Bristol and the food was underwhelming. I liked 3 out of the six. Course 1 was the size of a crisp and course 6 the desert was very sickly and I had to leave most of it. We had the cocktail sharing options at £40 each and whilst the pairing is debatable the cocktails were terribly. Extremely sweet and full of syrup. This was a big mistake. I would never go again

Black Friday deal

Black Friday deal advertised. Unable to get past location on website to book.

Contacted company via post advertising the deal on socials (noted another customer messaged with same problem). Direct message was also sent whilst the deal still active to ask for help to purchase.

Company responded that the deal was now over. Requested that the deal should be honoured as this was an issue with their website & contact was made whilst still active.

Message seen by company but no response. The post advertising the deal has also been withdrawn.

Deeply disappointed with my recent visit.

Deeply disappointed with my recent visit.

I’ve eaten at Six by Nico many times and always had excellent food and service, but my recent experience in Cardiff was extremely disappointing.

One of the dishes, a liver parfait, was served frozen. When I asked the waiter if this was correct, he confirmed it wasn’t but offered no explanation, apology, or solution.

Then, in my duck ragu, I found a bone. When I pointed it out, the waiter took the dish away and later returned to tell me that the kitchen “couldn’t find it” and that, because the duck was supplied boneless, I must have been mistaken and that it was just a crispy piece of duck. It absolutely wasn’t — I even had the bone visibly placed on the side of my plate.

The most disappointing part was the dismissive attitude from the staff member, who made no attempt to acknowledge or properly address either issue. For a restaurant that prides itself on quality and consistency, this was far below the standard I’ve come to expect.

I’ve always enjoyed my visits to Six by Nico, but after this experience I’m honestly unsure whether I’ll be returning.

Poor level of service and customer preparation

Was asked twice by email if I had any food allergies and had to inform them yet again when I arrived at Six in Glasgow as they were not aware of my allergy and therefore their emails are pointless. Not to mention the rude and abrupt query team leader who told us that we would not have time for coffee in spite of still having 30 minutes left of our two hour slot. I would expect a better level of service considering the cost of our meal.

Glasgow Merchant City

My partner and I attended the Glasgow Merchant City venue for the space menu - it was a fantastic experience and the servers went above and beyond for our first time there! Would highly recommend, we have since booked again for Christmas.

Terribly slow service and poorly executed

Tasting menu at the Oxford restaurant. It looks like a fun concept, but its poorly executed and service was so slow I left after 2 hours having only been served 4 of the 6 tiny courses. Of the 4 I managed to try, they looked better than they tasted. Even the serving staff (although friendly) didn't seem to believe in it.

Probably the worst dining experience I’ve ever had.

Probably the worst dining experience I’ve ever had.

I just want to say firstly that the fault is not with the servers, they definitely tried. The problem is the food.
This is presented as a fine dining tasting experience. Everything was either bland or tasted terrible.

The menu is simply trying to do too much without any actual talent being displayed in the kitchen. Food is under-seasoned and flavours don’t mix well. I left feeling sick with the horrible blend of flavours not sitting well.

Absolutely not worth the money, not worth the presentation from the servers or the restaurant itself. Truly awful. Will never go back and will be telling people that this isn’t worth it.

Also the bathrooms smelt like sewage.

Really enjoy their menus

Really enjoy their menus, had a secret menu a few months ago which was fantastic and generally go around three times a year. There service is always lovely and efficient as well.

My only criticism is the incessant emails, Six by Nico is a fantastic restaurant chain with excellent food, however they are not remotely exclusive enough to be sending three emails announcing every single new new menu, then adding a countdown for the new menus, then a teaser reveal and finally the actual menu.

Just too much marketing that feels pushy and pretentious at times. I can't reduce them either as they send some great one off offers, but for the love of god, tone them down and know your market.

Don't walk, run to the restaurant

Initially on entering we were a bit disappointed that the menu had changed and we hadn't been informed, but WOW, what a menu was San Sebastian. Where to start.......on paper I was a bit sceptical of some of the ingredients, especially leek which I don't like. How wrong was I? I could've ate multiple portions of the leek dish, it was gorgeous and all the other dishes were amazing. We were so well looked after by the staff of the Merchant City branch, it made the night very special. Thank you

Very disappointed

Very disappointed - booked any weeks ago for Space menu (clearly advertised as that menu). Specifically picked the restaurant for that reason. Due to be going next week. Got an email last night inexplicably saying they are trialling a completely different menu (not even Space themed). Haven't replied to email and dont answer phone. Will be cancelling unless they can honour our booking.

10 course space - aberdeen

Our waiter Timi in the Aberdeen restaurant elevated our experience to the next level. We had the 10 course tasting menu for the space theme and it was all fantastic. We cannot fault anything and the atmosphere and good vibes from our waiter was brilliant. Timi said he was from London and only worked with the restaurant for around 3 months but made a huge impact on our meal, conversation and overall evening! Great experience all round!!

Fantastic

OMG with the new Space menu Nico is back. Every course was great and pair that with the theatrics means they are back on track for me.
Secret dishes, dry ice, spinning plates, blindfolds and earphones brought every morsel to life.

Big shout out to the Spring Gardens with extra mentions for Oisin, Milly, Francis, you guys made our night extra special.

We are hoping to move to Spain next month so this may have been our last visit and wow was it well worth it

Charged just under 21% service charge on the total paid for our meals

UPDATE 22nd October. Six by Nico have today confirmed there was an error on my bill and have sent me a voucher as an apology. Once my email reached the correct person the issue was dealt with efficiently and courteously. I am happy with the outcome

Yesterday 2 of us enjoyed The Space menu at Six By Nico. Birmingham.

The food was very good and our waitress had learnt her script well in describing each course and the matching wine

We booked using a promotion for 6 courses & wine at a cost of £45 each ( full price for this is £75). As we had visited several times before we were aware that 12.5% service charge would be added to our bill.

When we got home and looked at our bill in more detail, we saw we had been charged just under 21% service charge - £18.75. We realised that the charge had been calculated on the full price of the menu (£75) rather than what we actually paid using a promotion (£45).

In our opinion this is totally unreasonable and makes a mockery of sending promotions to customers when they are ' clawing back' some of this promotion in service fees.

Yes, I know legally a customer can ask for a service charge to be removed but I personally would find this embarrassing and would not have the confidence to do so. The bill was given to us with a tablet to write a review and staff made no mention of service charges at this time or when making card payment.

In my view to calculate service charges on money I had not spent is not acceptable and is underhand.
I would have been happier if we had the option to donate this additional service charge to the charity promoted on our table rather than extra profit for Six By Nico.

I shall certainly think twice about returning and will make family and friends aware that Six By Nico promotions are not as good as they seem.

Such a shame about our dissatisfaction with the service charge issue, because we did enjoy the food and wine .
