Was looking forward to a relaxing dining experience but it was more like a busy American diner.. very rushed and noisy, we were in the middle of the restaurant with a tiny table and place was packed.... See more

Disappointing experience at Oxford
Oxford: We were looking forward to our experience, and booked in good time giving notice of dietary needs (one vegetarian & one lactose intolerant). The vegetarian in the party was really well catered for, but the lactose intolerant faired really poorly. The meals came out well identified as to the dietary needs (so a plus there) however there were some really odd platings. The lamb course came without lamb, apparently not able to be prepared without lactose (even with 7 weeks notice). That course also arrived cold, this was flagged to waiting staff who did nothing about this. The final dish was a ricotta with cherry sorbet. - for the lactose intolerant, they received a dish of sliced oranges, some still with skins, and no sorbet!! It was a very different dish to what was expected. We also ordered some liqueurs - shortly after these were delivered to the table we were presented with the bill, and told to pay as they needed the table back. At no point had we delayed service, and I wish we had been told they needed the table back before we ordered more drinks as we then essentially needed to down them as shots. We pointed out we’d ordered 125ml of wine, but had been charged for 250ml. They took the service charge off, rather than adjust the error. Just very poor and not one we’d be in a hurry to repeat.
Gift vouchers have a three month…
Gift vouchers have a three month validity period, can’t be extended and can’t be used on Saturday nights. Total waste of money.
Don’t believe the hype
From the moment we arrived, we were met with an overwhelming sewage smell and a very unwelcoming, grumpy-looking maitre d’. We were shown to our table where the smell lingered. When we mentioned it to a staff member, it was brushed off with a bizarre comment from the waiter that he had no sense of smell—no acknowledgment at all.
The ambiance was crowded and noisy, and unfortunately, the food didn’t make up for it. Everything we tried was fairly bland and forgettable. Service was slow, and the staff came across as disinterested and unenthusiastic, which really took away from the experience.
Overall, a very underwhelming visit. I wouldn’t recommend it.
Taster menu and wine tasing- rude staff
Manchester branch.
Taster menu and wine tasting was a gift for Xmas from my daughter and we visited together on Friday 28th March ,,,The food was delicious and very well presented ,,,yes the portions were small but isnt that the idea of a taster menu?
The staff who served the food and wines were so lovely, friendly and knowledgeable.
Unfortunately our experience was spoiled by the young lady who greeted us on arrival- she was incredibly rude and certainly lacking in customer service skills...I was quite shocked at her rudeness and I would not recommend this restaurant bacause of this
Strict Table Hold Policy
Be aware that the strict 15 minute table hold policy is rigidly upheld when booking a table. I had a reservation with my elderly parents at Six by Nico in Glasgow Merchant City. Due to terrible, unforeseen traffic conditions we were running late for our reservation. I contacted the restaurant by phone and left a message informing them we were running late as instructed. The restaurant maitre d called back and I told him we were likely to be slightly over the 15 minute hold window. We arrived very stressed, in total 25 minutes late for the booking. When we arrived we were told we could not be seated that day as we were too late to be served all six courses and they were fully booked the rest of the day. I do appreciate we were late but we had kept in contact with the restaurant and hadn't been informed when we spoke that if we arrived beyond the 15 minute window we would not be seated. I did find this somewhat inflexible as it means that the sittings must be so tightly scheduled that no delays can be managed. I couldn't see on my reservation any reference to a strict time slot of when tables had to be returned so I was puzzled by this stance. I do appreciate that tables are turned, often several times during a sitting but had the restaurant explained to me when I spoke to them that the 15 minute hold policy was to ensure the restaurants ability to fulfil all their sittings and our party could not be seated I would have saved myself a disappointing journey.
Beware when buying their gift vouchers!
Received £150 voucher as a gift but noticed a month after it had expired that it was only valid for six months. Most gift vouchers are valid for a year and so giving this as a gift is maybe not a good idea.
Great food experience
Great food experience. Staff were fantastic especially Matilda. Atmosphere was great. Thank you all for a lovely afternoon. Will definitely come again.
Very disappointing
Very disappointing. Read previous reviews and watched all the promotional videos but was not at all what I expected.
As previous reviews I have read, service was very rushed. Lots of covers which meant I could not hear the description of the wine and how it was matched to the food.
Would not have heard the description of the food had I not known the menu beforehand.
Toilets were blocked with paper and offer of still water was charged at £4.50 with a service charge of £37.
Have bought the same experience for my son as an 18th birthday present and am worried he will be coerced into paying for extras due to his naivety.
Italian menu at Belfast a hit!
Belfast restaurant- very impressed with the Italian menu. Presentation and taste very good. I had the wine also and enjoyed. The dessert was amazing. Sarah was very knowledgeable and a happy person who made the atmosphere really great.
Hit & miss..
Snack and first 3 courses were authentic Italian & excellent, however the final 3 courses (fish, beef cheek, semifreddo) were disappointing and lacking an Italian touch. The seabass, tiny portion, was overcooked and bland. A sauce (like salsa verde) would enhance the fish. The calamari in the add-on Fritto Misto was unpleasantly rubbery. The beef cheek was tough & chewy. The accompaniments were good. The dessert was lacking sweetness. A traditional ricotta & black cherry tart (torta della Nonna) would be nicer. Tasting wines were all very good. Great friendly service from Susie. Back on Friday, so will try some of the vegetarian options. Thanks.
Service was a real let down
Service at Oxford yesterday wasn't great - rude lady greeted us (we were a group of 4 chatting as we waited to be seen to and were met with Hello - Hello - HELLO! within 2 seconds), ill informed staff trying to sell us extra courses that were then out of stock, ill informed staff with no knowledge of wines, slow service in between courses - just a real shame when the kitchen had produced superb food.
Still hungry!
Staff were lovely, food tasted amazing and it was beautifully presented.
Each course is two mouth fulls at best.
Very much nouvelle cuisine.
We all left hungry 😔
Enjoyed the experience but will definitely not return.
Cracking start to life in Bristol
Cracking start to life in Bristol, we have waited a long time for this.
We started with an aperitif which was lovely, however we were expecting to drink it before we started our meal and unfortunately the first course arrived not long after the glass arrived.
The cheesy chip however for incredible, flavours bouncing all round my mouth, great start.
Scampi and peas were delightful.
Next up steak pie and wife is not a fan of steak tartare but ploughed through it, probably our least favourite and could have done with more seasoning, however the rich consommé that accompanied was a dream, took me back to the days standing on the terraces at half time drinking Bovril, I could of drank a pint of it.
Fish supper was clean, cooked beautifully and the scraps certainly took me back to the seaside as a kid.
The Smoked sausage arrived with the theatre that matched our server Josh, and the pork belly didn't disappoint, lovely the way Celeriac was used, don't see on a lot of menus, very underutilised and underrated in my eyes.
Finally, we finished with the star of show - deep fried Mars Bar and irn bru sorbet - wow!! I eat in many Michelin star restaurants, and this was the best dessert I have had in years - The delice was exquisite, with gel squeezing out with every dip of my spoon and the sorbet was simply out of this world, I could of gone back for more.
Pros: Food and Staff were excellent; the restaurant itself has been fitted beautifully. The price will make fine dining accessible to all and the restaurant had a mix of Instagram’s through to older generations out celebrating well cooked food.
Cons: We have arrived 15mins earlier for a 2:30 sitting and it felt a little rushed, I am glad we didn't order extra courses as the 2 hours to get through more than 6 courses would have been a struggle.
When ordering wine its customary to taste before the glasses are filled but given this arrived whilst we had just started our aperitif it would have been difficult anyway.
Will I go back, hell yeh but perhaps I will take an evening book when perhaps the table won’t be needed back in 2 hours.
Rude customer service
Rude customer service
Was a great restaurant and have been a lot and enjoyed I feel it's lost its focus on the customer, possibly due to expansion.
Rude customer service staff (encountered twice now), over-selling offers, rushed service and a hit or miss menu.
Shame as I was an advocate and bought numerous gift cards for other people to try it.
You know it's bad when we're trying to give away a £200 gift card because you can't bring yourself to visit!
Really disappointing
Really disappointing! Food was absent there was bugger all on the plates, left starving, could not tell you what I had food was bland, service was okay, would not recommend.
It was all below par
When we walked in the had some costumers who had vouchers for the night. It was cold and very noisy.
The toilet sink was the most ridiculous set up I have ever seen in my life. You cannot even get your hands under the tap to get them wet. Bowl was shallow and low.
The ambient noise was not pleasant.
You could not hear what your server was saying.
The food was below par and not enough as left hungry and I don't eat a lot.
The murder mystery night was a disappointment and the server was rubbish at explaining and didn't even ask at the end who we thought the murderer was.
The service at the next table which was so close gave the answer away and we heard yet we couldn't even hear our own server.
The room acoustics was terrible.
The drinks provided with the food was not complimentary to the food.
The service was very slow and the food arrived cold for some dishes.
The bowls and plates provided for some dishes were not easy to eat food from and awkward to put food on knife and fork.
It was a disappointment to say the least. I don't recommend it at all. You can receive better service and food else where.
BUYER BEWARE DON'T BUY GIFT VOUCHERS
Please be aware if you have a so called gift voucher any slight indiscretion and they cancel your booking and probably keep the monies that have been placed on the voucher. Maybe this is how they make their profits.
Our reservation was at Spring Gardens Manchester at 14.45. Unfortunately, we made a genuine mistake and had thought that the reservation was for 15.45.
When we arrived at the restaurant we could see that our table was still available but the young girl who insisted she was in charge refused to seat us. When asked what she was going to do to provide a solution, the response was “I’m not going to do anything.
By the very nature of this type of business they are supposed to be providing hospitality which we did not receive and believe the young girl in charge does not have the slightest understanding of the word hospitality (very confrontational, rude and uncompromising)
I have had much better treatment from some teenager working for McDonalds..
If our table had been taken by another diner I would have still expected the young girl in charge to offer a solution i.e. a later time for dining, a booking for another date. None of which were forthcoming and notwithstanding that our table was still free.
As she refused to offer us another solution we went across the road to the much more upmarket and frankly much more hospitable Grand Pacific.
As this was a gift for Christmas from our daughter and was pre-paid, it would seem that they are quite happy to profit from our mistake,
It would also appear to me that this establishments ethos is that customers are dining at a CELEBRITY CHEF lead restaurant (certainly not the case) prefering to treat voucher holders like they are not worthy. I have reviewed a lot of trust pilot and TripAdviser postings and the ratings on both sites is unsurprisingly totally abysmal, a very significant amount of the poor reviews concentrate on the abuse of the so called gift vouchers and the restrictive use policy.
In respect of the Trust Pilot reviews, they seem to echo our own experience with this in, if you have received a voucher as a gift you seem to be treated as second-class citizens:
* you can’t book a table on a Saturday.
* you are untrustworthy as you are also asked to provide your credit card details - why, I have no idea, as you have already received in the region of £100. It would be interesting to find out GDPR Compliance’s view on this as they are asking for and storing personal information with no valid reason.
* The validity of the voucher is short. Ours is only valid until 31st March. My wife works in a school which now means that we will be unable to make a further reservation, presuming our voucher is still valid.
* Their staff are arrogant, unhelpful and clearly not well trained.
Has the owner of this establishment not realised he needs to wake up something is going wrong!! So I urge the owner to take a look at these reviews, although it would appear he does not care. He is still making money from rejected voucher sales as he has your money already.
Check out TripAdviser rating just as low as Trustpilots
Murder Mystery night
Went here for a Murder Mystery recently. Thoroughly enjoyed the Murder Mystery part, and we solved it! Our server was Erin and she was excellent. The food however wasn't to my liking albeit thoroughly understanding how the system works; the portions were tiny, it's not a cheap night and personally, I left the restaurant hungry. Personally, I wouldn't go back but purely because it's not my thing, no other reason.

Launch party of Bristol restaurant was amazing - loved the paired cocktails and staff were great
