Great experience

Great experience at the Fitzrovia restaurant. Nice atmosphere, exciting but laid back. Staff were helpful and engaging. Dishes were really interesting and had us talking. If you want / expect silver service with stuffy atmosphere style this isn’t for you. We found it a great concept and more relaxed way to try a tasting menu.
We loved it and would recommend. Looking forward to the next theme.

I only rate this three star because of…

I only rate this three star because of my experience when the bill was presented. It contained a £5 charge for charity. I immediately asked for it to be removed but this left a bad taste in the mouth. It's truly bizarre when an establishment thinks it can pick your charitable giving. And how do you check where it goes? Bad form.

Disappointed

Disappointed - very and let down.
Having been given a £150 voucher for our wedding at the end of December as a gift we did not know or realise it had a 3 month restriction on use. We hadn't read the small print on back of voucher having assumed it would be for 12 months.
We turned up for after making a booking only to be be refused use of voucher.
The manager would not consider compromise or consider an alternative in a way that would have been fair and equitable to those who purchased the gift. He only emphasised that those who bought the voucher would have been told its limitations. Which we weren't aware of just we're grateful for the generosity of the gift having wanting to visit the restaurant.
They would not consider alternative options saying they would have to contact head office at a later date and wait on that. I feel very let down for my friends who had paid a substantial amount in gift on good faith
Read the small print very very carefully as no concessions made regardless of situation. We will not be going back.

We visited the restaurant in Canary Wharf for the Mad Hatters Tea Party menu. The concept, food and service were brilliant. We were made to feel very welcome and encouraged to share our views of the courses so felt we were involved in the whole experience & our thoughts mattered. We both really enjoyed it all and will be keeping an eye out for future menu experiences

Gift voucher wasted

I had a gift voucher which was subject to conditions written into the small print. I tried reserving online and eventually managed to do so, having found the online reservation system extremely confusing. A couple of weeks before the reserved date, the venue contacted me to advise that the gift voucher was not valid for the type of reservation I had made. The person was apologetic and said that this happens a lot. By then it was too late to make an alternative booking, so £100 was wasted. I emailed their customer service with feedback and never received any reply. I feel cheated and will not be gracing Six by Nico with my custom again.

Incredible!! Six by Nico Team, Southside Glasgow

Dear Six by Nico Team, Southside, Glasgow.

I wanted to take a moment to share what an outstanding experience we had during our recent visit to your Glasgow Southside restaurant.

From the moment we arrived, Ross and Amy provided service of the highest standard. They were not only professional but also warm, enthusiastic, and genuinely delightful. It was evident how passionate they are about their work and how much they value being part of the Six by Nico team. Hearing them speak so positively about their roles and the support they receive from the company was truly inspiring – such dedication and satisfaction are rare to encounter and speak volumes about your culture as an employer. Ross and Amy are a real credit to your business and integral to what makes the Six by Nico experience so special.

The food, as always, was exceptional, and the service impeccable. This was a celebratory meal and a special evening, every thoughtful act only reinforced my belief in the strength of your brand, your values, and your approach to hospitality.

You have created something truly unique – a business that not only delivers an extraordinary dining experience but also treats its people with the respect and support they deserve. This is undoubtedly one of the key ingredients to your continued success.

Thank you once again for making our visit so memorable. I look forward to our next dining experience with you and to watching Six by Nico continue to flourish in the years ahead.

With warm regards,
Ian Paterson

Unique dining experience

Birmingham: The food was absolutely amazing—what you envision in your mind after reading the menu doesn't even come close to what’s actually presented. Each dish is carefully thought out, beautifully executed, and tastes phenomenal. I was genuinely impressed by the creativity and depth of flavor in every bite.

I also love the concept of rotating menus every six weeks (I believe that's the schedule). It keeps things exciting and gives you a reason to come back again and again.

The service was excellent—attentive without being overbearing—and the atmosphere strikes a perfect balance between relaxing and refined. It’s a place where you can truly unwind and enjoy the experience.

Highly recommend this spot to anyone looking for a memorable dining experience!

Poor welcome

We had a reservation for 5pm. We arrived 4.50pm only to find a queue which was ling enough to leave us outside the building. It took untill 5 30 to be seated,.
This would have been ok, if we didnt have to stand in the doorway
This review would have been zero stars, the food however was fantastic. The staff were were good during service. At the end one waitress asked us if we required tea or coffee, which we ordered. Before it arrived another waiter brought us the bill and stated the table was required for the next sitting.
The staff were apologetic and explained there had been an issue on the previous sitting, this caused a backlog.
Having read other reviews, this isn't the first time this has happened.
Sixbynicos, i don't mind a queue for a take on a Saturday night.
Reputation is everything. Value it more than the customers you leave in the doorway.

Very rushed, can't recommend

I really wanted to love this experience, our friends in Edinburgh regularly go to the restaurant there and rave about it. We were excited to try the experience in Bristol. The food and wine was good, our waitress was friendly and the puzzle was fun.

However, we felt so rushed through the whole experience I am left feeling disappointed.

We chose this experience especially for our anniversary. We splashed out on wine pairing and a number of extras.

We arrived on time for our table, we got a warm welcome and were seated a few mins later around 19.35. We were told, unprompted, that we were the last section of the night and not to rush our puzzles etc.

The issues started when the wine pairings started with the second course. After the first pairing the waitress cleared our table and commented that we were going to be one of those tables with 'double parked' drinks. We laughed this off but she wasn't kidding. The food kept coming so quickly that we were having to practically glup down our wine to keep up. The courses were dropped off hastily and the other server who was explaining our food seemed rushed and bored. This added to the feeling that we needed to be out quick.

The wine was absolutely delicious and it felt like a real waste to have to rush it like that. My partner and I were even having to keep an eye on each others glasses to make sure we were drinking it fast enough.

Bearing in mind we were seated around 19
35 and maybe had 10 or so minutes more to decide on drinks and extra snacks, we were finished at 9pm. We opted for the cheese course too, making it 7 courses total. This gave us just over 10 mins per course to eat our food, drink our wine, answer the puzzle and have the next course turn up.

We were rushed to finish a full 30 mins before the end of our 2 hour booking. We did politely feed this back to our waitress when she asked us how everything was at the end of our meal and when we explained we felt a bit rushed she explained they were all under extraordinary pressure to get people out as quickly as possible.

Our bill came to over £200 and the experience just didn't seem to match that price point (or compare well to other restaurants of a similar cost). This was a real disappointment for our anniversary and we would not be able to recommend Six by Nico based on our experience.

04 may 25 10 course taster menu table booked for 5pm turned up at 4 30 told to come back as table not ready nowhere to wait I'll except that returned at 5 and was shown to table no explanation of the how the menu would work waitress just dumped a cold soup and skewers and a chorizo dish when we hadn't even had a chance to look at or order from the drinks menu there were four of us we had no side plates to eat our starters from they were on one plate two of our party ate 2 of the chorizo starters leaving 2 on the plate we asked a waitress who was very helpful for side plates she came back with them and also brought 2 more of the chorizo starters we did not ask for them when the front of house manager came with wine eventually and said to us you are very cheeky having another 2 chorizo starters we did not ask for them and by this time still nothing had been explained to us the Mackrell dish the pieces of fish were tiny the size didn't matter it was just the fact there was so many bones after which time they tried to rush the rest of the courses through and we were asked to vacate the table as the next customers were waiting for the table we did not get chance to finish the courses and the wine which wasn't cheap there wasn't even an area where we could sit to finish the wine it was an unpleasant dining experience

Disappointed with the Voucher Experience Despite Great Food & Service

Disappointed with the Voucher Experience Despite Great Food & Service

We’ve always loved Six by Nico and were excited to purchase a Black Friday gift voucher for a meal for two with wine pairing – a perfect treat. Unfortunately, the experience turned into a big disappointment.

The voucher, purchased just before Christmas, was only valid for three months. Given how popular the restaurant is, we tried multiple times to book but couldn’t get a reservation before it expired. We contacted the restaurant, and they kindly offered to extend the voucher by one month. We were finally able to book for the 29th of April.

We ordered the tasting menu for two with wine pairing, as per the original voucher, but were shocked to be handed a bill for £105 at the end. The staff explained that since the voucher had technically expired, they were only honouring the monetary value of the voucher (£100), not the package deal that was originally purchased (meal + wine pairing for two).

This felt very unfair. The whole point of buying a deal is to receive that specific offer – not just a general credit. It’s not our fault that the restaurant was fully booked throughout the entire voucher period. If it’s that difficult to secure a table within the valid timeframe, the policy needs to be more flexible.

To be clear: the food and service were excellent, as always. But the handling of the voucher felt like a rip-off. If you can’t guarantee the deal will be redeemable, then don’t sell it.

Be warned if you’re thinking of buying a gift voucher – it might not be the value you think it is.

Absolutely atrocious - overbooked

Absolutely atrocious experience this evening in Cardiff. My husband and I visited in Feb and had a great night. I raved about it to friends from out of town. They visited this week and we were ‘treating’ them to your new menu. Arrived at 7:50 for an 8pm table, told to come back at 8:10. Came back after spending £30 at the bar next door while we waited, only to find a huge queue. 30 minutes later still no table, still a huge queue. No apology. No snacks. No drinks. Unbelievably bad. We gave up at 8:45 and had a shit dinner as our friends were starving. This was so poor, I am so embarrassed taking my friends out to have such a terrible experience. Shame.

Fitzrovia Restaurant - Fast Food for The Rich

Fitzrovia Restaurant - Six Course with Paired Wines

I can barely find any fault with the food, I swapped out the fish course for the vegetarian option and the stuffed courgette flower had no flavour at all. Everything else in terms of food flavour was excellent.

Sadly, the whole experience was very very rushed - it said to allow 2 hours for the experience but we were in and out in less than 1.30 hours. The room was dark, busy and extremely loud which made it impossible to hear what the waiters were saying about any of the wines. Also, with the intense turnover of food, even with the small measures of wine (100ml) we still ended up with more than one wine still on the table - you didn't get time to savour any of it before it was hurried away and replaced by another dish and therefore another wine. Also, the portion sizes are tiny - I do not have a huge appetite and tend to struggle to finish full dinners but I left "still peckish" which should never happen!

I feel that for a £220+ bill, I would definitely want more of a special experience, to not feel as rushed and to feel that I was looked after. Although the waiters were lovely, even they seemed rushed so the whole experience felt impersonal.

For these reasons, I can't recommend Sixbynico and will not be returning. We have spent similar amounts of money in other finer dining place and walked away eulogising, feeling like we were given the best possible experience and therefore receiving good value for money. This however, is fast food for the rich.
