  1. Ski Shop

Written by the company

Our motto of “Gear for Skiers by Skiers” is about as real as it gets. We’re not some city shop that’s nowhere near a mountain; we live and play in the heart of the Green Mountains in Stowe, Vermont. We have access to the best terrain and snow on the east coast, and we take full advantage of it. We actually get on the skis we sell to ensure that you find the proper setup for you. Based in Stowe, Vermont, SkiEssentials.com has come a long way over the years. Starting out 30 years ago as Bedside Tuners, a small tune shop in Stowe, the company grew to become what are now Pinnacle Ski and Sports and Inner Bootworks. The online business was a logical next step, and we made our first online sale in the basement office of our brick and mortar store in October of 2004, and we haven’t looked back since.

Customer service still exists

I was starting to believe customer service was a thing of the past. This year I've had to make several big purchases in a variety of different industries, and I've been disappointed time and time again. I can't even count how many stores I've walked out of and swore to never return.

When it came time to purchase some ski gear after a long hiatus from the sport, I expected more of the same disappointment and figured I was on my own. I had a few bad experiences with local brick and mortar stores and web retailers, but then I fortunately stumbled upon SkiEssentials.com and their reviews. They were so fantastic I reached out to them for advice regarding gear and they (Mike A. in particular) have been nothing short of spectacular. I'm on my way to building up my arsenal and can't wait to get back on the mountain.

terrible post sale customer service

SE is very knowledgeable about skis...and great at sales. But not at all supportive if and when those skis you purchased from them have issues...well to be fair they were great a trying to sell me another pair but terrible at dealing with the original ski issue. I bought 2 pairs of skis along with over $2k of total gear from SE autumn 2020. One of skis delaminated after less than a month of use in what multiple ski shops informed me was a "known issue" and one that they said "is 100% covered by the manufacture". I contacted SE who denied that there was a "known issue" and claimed to have spoken to the dealer to confirm that. Thankfully a more customer friendly ski shop was willing to handle the issue and return my skis to the manufacturer to get me a full refund. I'd never purchase anything from SE again and I'd recommend that if you have issues with skis you purchase from them that you don't seek help from them as you'll only waste your time.
PS - My experience sounds very similar to the one I see below written by Josh for his Elan 106 Ripsticks. SE seems to make any and every excuse to not help their clients. Clearly a trend. Thanks for your lack of support SkiEssentials.

Ski Essentials comes through!

I was looking for the Yakima backswing in every place imaginable and wherever my net search would take me. After many attempts with other businesses out of stock, I called SkiEssentials. I’m not a skier but they sell lots of stuff. Lo and Behold they replied to my inquiry the same day and on a Sunday processed my order so I could get this product before a vacation I told them I was leaving on very soon. The item arrived on time, earlier than expected really, brand new. Start to finish, I received superlative attention to service. Thank you Everyone at SkiEssentials!

I bought a ski package through ski essentials and I am ecstatic with what I got. The retail price for the boots, skis and poles separately were more than double what I paid for the package. The boots I was supposed to get sold out so they sent me an even more expensive brand boot free of charge. Extremely fast shipping. I will be buying from them again!

Bought a pair of Elan 106 Ripsticks

Bought a pair of Elan 106 Ripsticks. Had about 6 resort days on them when the edge blew out. On the outside edge by the way. Local ski shop said if it were them, they would warranty. Sent photos to ski essentials and because there was a scratch near the edge blowout they determined it was from impact. I wouldn't be surprised if they considered a water spot "impact". Garbage ski shop and rude customer service with that hipster-I know everything about skiing-attitude.

Problems with my order

First, I love their YouTube ski reviews. Best by far, in my impression. I tried their store as I want the reviews to continue. Ordered a Rossi Holyshred 172 cm with bindings. There was glitch in their website (it happens) and I had to submit the order twice. In this re-submission I did not note that the ski size had changed to 162 cm. They shipped the skis super fast. Great skis but 162, way to short for me. Called them and they confirmed that the order was for a 162 cm ski. Explained what I thought happened. Only option given was to return them and play a re-stocking fee ($212, plus $70 for shipping). I wanted to order a Bent Chetler with bindings right away and hoped they would meet me in the middle, cutting the re-stocking fee. Specially considering that I felt it was a "provoked" error. No luck. So I was faced paying nearly $300. Ultimately bought the Atomic skis home and decided to list the Holyshreds in eBay.
Two things: Their website could be improved a bit. And in cases like mine, meeting the customer somewhere half way creates customer loyalty. I know they are not a big store, so their margins are slim. Still felt their response was short-sighted, as they lost a customer.

Outstanding company buy from, went the extra mile.

Outstanding company to order from. Not only did I get the best price on an excellent pair of skis and bindings (by a long shot), they surprised me with an early delivery. I ordered last minute for a trip which had no chance of getting to me on time and by the simple mention of it to them, they arrived a day before my departure. That’s going the extra mile for a first time customer that will now be a long time one.

We would give these folks 6-stars if we could. From the first phone contact they worked to get my wife and me the right gear and quickly. They really understand customer service. When some of the order was not in stock (this gear is selling super fast) they worked to upgrade our order, and at no additional cost. When does that happen anymore - maybe only in Stowe Vermont!!! We love this shop.

So happy I found SkiEssentials.com

I am so happy to have found SkiEssentials.com! Not only did I get the best deal on skis, bindings, and poles, the bindings were mounted for free and everything was shipped quickly (even in these COVID times). Not only that, when I emailed to check on my order, I actually got a reply back right away giving me a delivery estimate. And when I called the customer service number, not only did a very nice human answer the phone, he looked up my order and gave me the information I needed. (I was anxious as planned on skiing soon). You must check out this wonderful company!!!

Buy Ski Equipment From Ski Essentials

I highly recommend purchasing ski equipment from Ski Essentials or Pinnacle Sports in Stowe Vermont.

I don’t buy ski equipment very often but when I do I want to demo the skis first. After I tried out a pair of Rossignol 94 TI 173's that I rented from Pinnacle Sports, I decided to purchase them through their sister company Ski Essentials. I had somewhat of a convoluted proposal for the purchase of these skis because I wanted to combine three credits that I anticipated having with Pinnacle Sports that I wanted to apply to the purchase of the skis.

I sent an email to Ski Essentials with my proposal regarding the credits which included an item I had yet to return. Mike at Ski Essentials made the deal incredibly easy and reminded me that there was an additional sale taking another 10% off what was already a very reasonable price of this discounted 2020 ski. Mike did not wait for me to return the item before giving me the credit. He then arranged to bring the skis up to Pinnacle Sports the next day where I was able to drop off my boot to have a binding adjustment and safety check performed at no additional charge as well as returning the item for the credit I had already received.

So, whether you are in Vermont, Colorado, California or anywhere else I encourage you to shop first at Ski Essentials. There is free shipping on any orders over $49 and as far as I can tell they have the cheapest prices in the country.

Difficult to Remove Adhesive

I recently purchased a pair of Volkl skis from SkiEssentials.com. Although i have not yet had an opportunity to use them, I expect that I will enjoy them when I do.

Unfortunately, the skis were shipped with a block of foam attached to the top face of each ski, apparently to protect them during shipping. Unfortunately, it was impossible to remove the foam without leaving behind an extremely gummy adhesive. I contacted SkiEssentials.com to ask how to remove the adhesive. They recommended using rubbing alcohol, which did not work well at all. It took me approximately 1 hour using the alcohol to loosen and eventually remove the adhesive. While SkiEssentials.com did apologize for my experience, I was disappointed that this occurred in the first place and wasted so much of my time.

I gave SkiEssentials.com a try, but will make my future ski purchases elsewhere.

Outstanding customer service

Just purchased a pair of skis from Ski Essentials. I had a few questions about the transaction. Mike, the customer service rep I worked with was great. Every once in awhile you get to buy things from companies that take service seriously and this is one of them. I definitely recommend buy from them.

I was a first-time buyer of XC skis with many questions. I received excellent advice in terms of choices for my intended use, as well as spot-on sizing help. My skis arrived quickly and now all I need is snow! SkiEssentials was a pleasure to work with and I highly recommend them.

I've purchased at least 3 pair of race skis over the years from SkiEssentials.com and it's always been a pleasure doing business with them. I get great race gear at a great price with great service. Are the top sheets a few years old in some cases? Yup. Do I care? Nope! I had one pair show up with a slight manufacturing issue on the top sheet. They clearly missed the epoxy in a region during manufacturing and the top sheet was de-laminating ever so slightly because of that. I sent a few photos and they immediately shipped me a replacement pair and a return shipping label. Looking forward to purchasing more gear from this shop in the future. SkiEssentials is one of my favorite on-line ski shops and I've purchased a lot of ski gear from many shops, on-line and local.

Online Ski Heaven

There's always great deals to be found online, customer service is prompt and they actually have folks who will answer the phone if needed. And their ski reviews are second to none, including a ridiculously extensive YouTube library.
