Initially thought they were expensive…
Initially thought they were expensive but worth a try, they turned out to be a big disappointment, as recommend washed before using and on one mask the nose clip ended up in two pieces. They are small for the money paid,not comfortable.

Hi Brian - thanks for feedback - we have emailed to see if we can help you with the nose clip. The size is standard and generally fits most adult faces well -particularly given the adjustable toggles. Smugs are handmade with love using an ethical all UK supply chain - the GOTS certified, triple layered organic cotton is printed, cut and handsewn in our mill in Staffordshire. Elastic, toggles and nose clips come from Leicester, and a woven label is made in Wales. Along with recycled, biodegradable packaging we hope they offer good value for money at £9.95 - which includes 20% VAT.

Well-made mask and very serviceable. Downside for me is that the mask gets sucked in around my nostrils and mouth when I inhale. This is tricky for me as I then feel somewhat as if I'm suffocating. I do really like the mask. I've washed it and tried again but it's still doing it, although possibly a tiny bit less. Maybe it will get better over time?

Hi Wendy - thanks for the feedback. Make sure you don’t over tighten the toggles/nose clip as this will create a partial vacuum and the fabric will move more than intended and restrict airflow. They are only designed to be worn for short periods/occasional use – popping into a shop, on public transport etc. We hope a few light adjustments and things may improve. Best cloth face mask if wearing glasses. Do not steam up. Comfortable and easily adjustable to fit over ears. Well made and good quality.

This is the third lot of Smug masks I have purchased in the last six months. They are good quality fabric, well made with adjustable ear loops and comfortable to wear. Ours have been washed by hand many many times and still look and feel nice. The service is good too, I have always received the delivery within 2-3 days of online order. Highly recommended.

Not fit for purpose - avoid at all costs
I was really hopeful that these masks would be great. All signs were positive - excellent materials, nose moulding, adjustable straps, contoured design. When I initially tried on for size / shape I was really pleased with the fit so washed the three I had purchased before wearing as directed. However, upon wearing, I felt my breathing restricted and the mask was sucked into my mouth on every inward breath. This is the only mask I have experienced this with and was very uncomfortable, almost panic inducing due to the restricted breathing. I am so disappointed, these really aren’t fit for purpose. When I contacted Smug they were dismissive of my experience, suggesting I adjusted the mask (like I wouldn’t have tried that). I tried them, as did my husband and my 12 year old son and we all had the same experience. They also said that they did not often receive this kind of feedback. I think you don’t have to look very hard to find exactly the same feedback from many others. An expensive mistake and one I will be warning my friends not to make.

We stated that we do not receive such feedback very often and suggested (based on other customer feedback here) that you might adjust the toggles and nose clip to ensure a partial vacuum is not created this should help. We asked you to let us know if this helped - if it didn't we would have helped further. You didn't reply to that email. We are sorry you find the Smug uncomfortable. Team Smug.

I bought a mask from SMUG as they were 𝗡𝗢𝗧 𝗠𝗔𝗗𝗘 in China and I support 🇬🇧🅑🅡🅘🅣🅘🅢🅗 🇬🇧 stuff.
Great masks but maybe just a bit expensive. Maybe the packaging could be cheaper and that might just bring the price down by a £1 or 2 but the mask quality is good and to be honest it’s U.K. made which I really appreciated and the mask quality is great and they really look good.

Thanks JE - we appreciate price is important. Smugs are all handmade in the UK with an all UK ethical supply chain - by this we mean that we pay the living wage and all our supplies are sourced in the UK to support other British businesses. The woven label is made in wales. The toggles and elsatic come from Leicester. The packaging from printers in Lincolnshire. The cotton is GOTS certified organic cotton, and treated with a certified antibacterial and water repellant treatment. This obviously comes at a premium. When the VAT woman takes her 20%, there's really not much left from £10.95... but we will keep trying to provide value and pass on economies where we can. Thnaks for your support!
Best fitting mask so far
Great service and the best fitting mask I’ve managed to find. Nose wire seems sturdy and it’s well shaped to cover your chin so that it stays in place even when talking. So pleased, I’ve just ordered 3 more.
