Worst website for maths ever created, other websites like TT rockstars and my maths are far superior. It makes you write down and copy all of the questions even though you have to submit them online.... See more

I genuinely hate Sparx Maths (and also Sparx Reader). It's extremely stressful and time consuming. Most of the time, Sparx will set you work that isn't even learnt at school. It's an awful thing and H... See more

I strongly dislike Sparx maths because when you get a question wrong, it doesn't tell you what to do differently but rather tells you to watch a video (which aren't of much use), do a different questi... See more

Sparx Maths by Mark Dixon-More Hindrance Than Help

I had high hopes for Sparx Maths when I first came across it, but upon delving deeper, it became evident that the platform falls short in several areas that critically impact the learning experience.

Frequent Bookwork Checks: The most glaring issue I encountered was the overly frequent bookwork checks. While monitoring a student's progress is crucial, Sparx seems to have taken it to an excessive level. These incessant checks disrupt the natural flow of learning, making it feel more like a series of tests than an educative journey. Instead of fostering an environment of self-paced learning and discovery, it forces students into a constrained and rigid structure.

Two-Try System: The decision to change a question after only two unsuccessful attempts is, in my opinion, a severe misstep. This system not only creates anxiety among teens, who are already under immense academic pressure, but it also denies them the opportunity to learn from their mistakes. Real learning often involves failing and trying again until one grasps the concept. By cutting this process short, Sparx Maths deprives students of valuable learning opportunities and potentially erodes their confidence.

Malfunctioning Custom Questions: One would hope that if Sparx Maths emphasizes strict rules and frequent checks, they would at least ensure their custom questions function correctly. Unfortunately, this isn’t the case. Several times, I’ve come across custom questions that simply do not work. This isn’t just a minor inconvenience; it derails the entire learning process and adds to the frustration and discouragement.

In summary, while the intentions behind Sparx Maths might have been good, its execution leaves much to be desired. The platform seems more focused on metrics and rigid structures than genuinely facilitating an enriching learning experience. If the goal is to nurture a love for maths and build confidence among students, Sparx Maths, as it currently stands, misses the mark.

CLEAR REVIEW

Sparx Maths is good. Their idea of writing out your working out is smart, but of course a little annoying (that's not why I rate it low) but in fact, it's the helping videos.
Their voices are aggravating, and they don't explain it properly. I'd expect you to go over why the formula makes sense, as well as your working out.
I also have to physically click on to the next box, or drag a box somewhere, which for laptop users, is extremely annoying. It's a variety of questions, but that doesn't help.
By 'physically click on to the next box' I mean I usually click tab, but whenever I click tab it highlights the box (with the blue ring around the answer box) and as I begin typing my answer, it doesn't appear. I look back and it's typing in the previous box, and that's why I get majority of the questions wrong.
Furthermore, I can't change my answer in a box; for example, if I wrote 156 instead of 1546, it won't allow me to click between 5 and 6 to write the 4, it just automatically starts typing from the end.
Main points to take away;
-Change the people explaining (e.g. a woman kept putting emphasis repeatedly on the end of the sentence where it wasn't needed and it was extremely annoying)
-Explain how the formula makes sense, give other examples as well as the question's working out (for the support video)
-Change how people can answer the questions
It would also be useful if you could adapt the wrong answers and give suggestions to a parent/carer/teacher as to where the student was going wrong instead of just marking it as wrong and 'giving a second chance'.
Otherwise, smart, like the adaptions as to how the student is getting on with progress, useful to teachers and parents.

I failed my test because the website…

I failed my test because the website forced me to do bookwork checks which made me forget the answers to the questions. Because of this, my parents kicked me out and I'm not living on the streets.

Highly recommend it.

This app is straight terrible🔥🔥🔥

This app is straight terrible🔥🔥🔥. Made me watch 20 videos b4 even letting me do my homework which were completely and utterly useless. The bookcode stuff can easily be bypassed by just using a screen recorder and looking back at the footage. Overall not very well made 😂😂😂😂

IT'S AWESOME

I love collecting the XP then finding out I've gone up a level because it makes me feel so proud of myself after I've done hard work. The bookwork checks aren't my favorite thing but they are useful for when you have a test or something and I hardly ever get them because I write everything down.
