Mark Dixon- Hero to teachers, Villain to everyone else.

Sparx maths is something alright!

I usually wouldn’t say this because it sounds as if i was lying. But unlike the 7 reviews from Mark Dixon or the hundreds from angry kids, this is an honest and unbiased review.

In theory, sparx maths should be a wonderful maths website that gives children a chance to do their homework to a perfect standard- giving new questions after every other failed attempt until you get it right. However, in practice, sparx maths is hated by every student who uses it. While the automatic setting of homework and easy to understand score page makes it a dream for teachers, students, parents and anyone else can see all of the flaws with sparx.

1: Bookwork checks are a sham.
I have yet to use paper to work out my answer. I just go on a notes page on my phone and type the code and the answer. As far as i know, nobody else does any working out. If they get a hard question they would need it for, they just use gauthmath or something like it (which has been a lifesaver on multiple occasions).

2: Non-compulsory homework.
I can’t really comment on this because I don’t do this. Nor does anybody i know.

3: Length of homework.
This point is kind of backed up by my last point because nobody has the energy to do any extra homework on top of the more-than hour long work of the compulsory tasks. The homework is meant to be 1 hour long but can take up to 2 and only appear as 30 min on the teacher’s score page.

4: Public opinion
The public opinion of sparx maths is great. An honestly amazing website that is better than its “ancestor” Hegarty maths. However, if you ask any student or parent of a student about it, they will respond with a lot of incredibly mean and rude (but true) complaints about the homework site. I have had several people tell me they’ve had suicidal thoughts due to sparx maths.

In conclusion, If you’re thinking of paying for sparx for your school’s maths homework, don’t. A great alternative is setting a worksheet (like one from CorbettMaths). The only reason you should use this website is if you’re trying to cut down on printing to save the environment.

Thank you.
-A year 10 student who has been doing sparx maths since September 2022.
(And honestly, i’m trying my best to be unbiased)

Terrible Experience with Sparx Maths

I have had the unfortunate experience of using Sparx Maths, and I cannot express how disappointed I am with this product. It has been nothing short of a nightmare, and I feel compelled to share my frustrations with others.

First and foremost, the user interface is a complete disaster. It's clunky, confusing, and incredibly frustrating to navigate. I spent more time trying to figure out how to use the program than actually learning math. It's as if they designed it to be as unintuitive as possible.

The content itself is no better. The explanations provided for the math concepts are unclear and lack depth. It's like they expect you to already be an expert in the subject matter. If I wanted to teach myself, I wouldn't have paid for this service in the first place. The problems and exercises are often poorly written and do not adequately prepare students for real-world math challenges.

Furthermore, the customer support is abysmal. I encountered technical issues, and it took them days to respond to my inquiries. When they finally did respond, their solutions were unhelpful and didn't address my problems. It's clear that they have no regard for the customer experience.

To top it all off, the pricing for Sparx Maths is exorbitant. They charge a premium for a subpar product that doesn't deliver on its promises. It's a complete rip-off, and I regret ever spending my hard-earned money on this service.

In conclusion, Sparx Maths is a complete and utter waste of time and money. It's a poorly designed, poorly executed, and overpriced product that offers little to no value. I would strongly advise anyone considering using Sparx Maths to look elsewhere for a more reliable and user-friendly math learning solution. Save yourself the frustration and disappointment.

A teachers view of Sparxmaths...

Oh, SparxMaths, where do I even begin? Well, let's just say that my experience with this platform has been nothing short of...interesting. If you enjoy mind-numbing frustration and a constant feeling of being in the dark, then SparxMaths might just be the perfect fit for you.

First of all, the user interface is a true masterpiece of confusion. It's almost like they went out of their way to make it as counterintuitive as possible. Navigating through the labyrinth of menus and options is a delightful exercise in patience and self-control.

But perhaps my favorite feature of SparxMaths is the way it gamifies learning. Who needs clear explanations and straightforward examples when you can have a convoluted system of rewards and achievements that make you feel like you're progressing, even when you're hopelessly lost?

In conclusion, if you have a masochistic streak and enjoy feeling perpetually baffled, SparxMaths might just be the educational platform for you. For the rest of us, well, there are plenty of other options out there that don't require a PhD in frustration to use.

It's Ok :D

I actually find the app ok. It could be a bit better, and I miss the old design, but I don't get all the hate. Bookchecks are a bit annoying, but I get the point!

Stop adding bookwork checks it dosen't help, as long as you give us similar questions, it will help, it also takes up space for our files in our laptop/phone. The practice video's questions are much easier than what we are presented with. Instead of bookwork checks, make the questions easier and give the level that that particular person is assigned too. It sucks, but the questions do get you thinking.
