Working with Tillie

I have to say we were very disappointed in the whole experience. AI was used and eventually we basically had to rewrite the book from the start. Constant deadlines and having to pay - when we were doing the work ourselves. I was excited to start the process but am so relieved that it is all over!n Don't do it is my advice!
Added now after your edited response. Please read the draft book which we received initially - the grammar was shocking! A 10 year old could have done better! We had no option but to re-write the book. Thank you.

Hariny and Lance helped complete each stage of the project in a timely and professional manner. The experience was both enjoyable and smooth.
I would thoroughly recommend Storyterrace to anyone looking to capture special moments in detail, thoughtfully written and carefully curated.

Our books arrived the other day and we couldn’t be happier with them! The quality of the cover, pages and printing are much better than we expected. The quality of the writing is just terrific, Jenny. You did justice to our story. Tilly, you were always there to promptly answer questions and keep us on track. Thank you for this very special experience. We enjoyed working with you both.

I was helped a lot to put my story together. Everyone was patient with me, and explained everything so I could understand what was going to happen.

A seamless process brought to an excellent conclusion.
Hariny (my editor) matched me to Vanwy who wrote my story. We had 6 hours of interviews during which Vanwy was interested, thoughtful and professional. Of course, it helps to gather your thoughts and prepare for the interviews in order to keep the story moving. Vanwy managed to include historical context which was important to me. A great experience.

Thankfully only went for lower package.
Was lead to believe the writer would help me tell my story, so felt unprepared and uncomfortable with the initial interviews. The author was very nice but had to reschedule some sessions, not sure why!
When I got the first draft I was mortified to discover my story was mixed up with another of their customers. This really put me off reading more.
When I received the final draft I questioned quite a lot of grammar and why there were many repeats from one chapter to the next which again caused more distress.
Overall very disappointing experience, it took a great deal of courage to discuss parts of my life and cancer diagnosis with a stranger. It hasn’t delivered anything positive and I can’t even face picking up the finished version so it’s destined for the bin! Wish I had read other reviews before parting with £850.00, I would not have signed up!!
When I addressed my complaints they were basically ignored and I was made to feel it wasn’t their fault!! Poor customer service!

Was made very welcome, I had to open up about my personal life on levels I’ve never done before in order to get my book to illustrate my life accurately, opening up to complete strangers things I didn’t even discuss with a therapist. I was throughly updated along the way and the book was produced in a professional manner by both writer and editor. The taa was am were fantastic. Thank you once again 🥰

I am delighted to provide this reference for StoryTerrace and, in particular, my exceptional writer, Rachel, who has supported me through one of the most personal and meaningful projects of my life.
From the very beginning, StoryTerrace demonstrated professionalism, sensitivity, and a genuine commitment to helping me tell my story authentically and with care. The process was seamless, and I felt supported at every stage. The team took the time to understand the emotional depth and complexity of my experiences and matched me perfectly with Rachel, who has been nothing short of outstanding.
Rachel brought warmth, clarity, and structure to my ideas. She listened deeply, asked thoughtful questions, and handled delicate themes—such as my experience with the Nursing and Midwifery Council—with insight and compassion. Her ability to weave my narrative into a coherent, powerful, and honest manuscript has been truly impressive. She has a unique gift for balancing factual accuracy with emotional resonance, and she never lost sight of the purpose behind the project.
Thanks to Rachel and the wider StoryTerrace team, what began as a daunting task has become a fulfilling and healing journey. I wholeheartedly recommend StoryTerrace to anyone looking to bring their personal or professional story to life—and if you have the privilege of working with Rachel, you are in very safe and talented hands.

Excellent experience, perfectly managed by our project editor, Freya! We were always kept informed of deadlines and next steps but never pressurised into making quick decisions. Freya was very responsive and always had the answers to our questions.

I had writers block and was unable to finish my story. I had been working on it for ten years. They found a writer who worked closely with me and we completed my story under the timeline. The layout was beautiful. I received the finished product and it is gorgeous.

I recently had a book written about my parents through StoryTerrace, and overall, it was a wonderful experience. The highlight of the process was working with our assigned writer, Jenny. She was fantastic—highly professional, warm, and made my parents feel completely at ease during the interviews. She really brought out their stories with care and authenticity.
The StoryTerrace platform, Bookmaker, was user-friendly and made it easy to review drafts, make comments, and upload photos. It streamlined the collaboration and editing process, which was a big help.
The final book turned out beautifully. While the prose could have used a little more polish in places, the essence of our family’s story came through clearly and meaningfully.
My only real critique is that most communications from StoryTerrace were fairly boilerplate. That said, whenever I had a specific question or needed assistance, the team responded quickly and helpfully.
All in all, StoryTerrace delivered on its promise to help preserve our family’s legacy in book form. I'm grateful for the experience and would recommend it to others looking to capture their loved ones' stories.

The excellent selection of a writer Alex Grant:
1.Patient and responsive to my suggested way of working although new to him namely:
Prior to each one to one session I would before hand gather my thoughts on the period, event or issue to be covered and convert them into a "mind-map"the compuerised version of which I would forward to Alex. Hence we had a structure containing details to be discussed along with names and places which I think helped Alex and not lease me to avoid pause in our meetings and omissions.
2. The challenge Alex had was that the Biography was, as he has described, a Portmanteau in that it had two interacting parts: my career and personal life.
3. The challenge Alex had of understanding the scientific aspects of my career given that he did not have a scientific education. As a result we decided to try and explain the science at the level we would do if talking to a bar maid. This, it has been said, is what all true scientists should be able to do.
4 Alex's writting is very smooth and clear and I hope will encourage my grand children and some of my grown up children and step children to read the biography as literature reading is not a regular occupation of some of them them.
5.Alex dealt well with my editing and addtions to the text and patience over the 2.5 years journey it took to complete the printed book.
6. Turning to the role of the editor(s). it turns out that there were quite a number during the 2.5 years. The earlier ones had in fact little to do and I was wondering what are they supposed to do! The final editor Xiaofang Ma took the reins where I was able to appreciate his role in steering me through finalising the text, and layout the photographic material. Here he gave me a free hand to lay it out in a captioned Power Point formate which worked well. While I had decided that approach my self I think it would be good if the editor explained is or her role in finalising the manuscritp for printing. Here such suggstions as Power Point would have been instructive at the outset.
In the end the whole process went suprisingly smoothly.

I found the process truly psychotherapeutic. I chose my author based primarily on her preference to meet face to face. This was my choice also, to establish an empathic understanding.
Production and editing of the drafts were easy after I managed to navigate their website,
I chose to have a family tree, and that was perhaps the most arduous part of my exercise, although I had all the information to hand.
Errors and omissions were easy to fix, and now I have received the finished article.
A truly satisfying process.
