We used Sundowner to arrange a 3-week holiday to Cape Town and the garden route in February/March 2019. Many thanks to Jo for all the care that went into the immaculate plans and Ellie for her support with the final arrangements. Jo worked so hard to understand our wishes but also guided us with travel opportunities we had not considered. We had a superb holiday and placed a high value on the knowledge and contacts Sundowner provided. We could not have done this on our own. The company is a delight to deal with and very transparent. We look forward to asking them to plan our next trip to India.

What a fantastic holiday from start to finish. All hotels were of a very good standard. The transfers were all on time, the itinerary details were exactly as written and everything went to plan.
Costa Rica was a beautiful place, we experienced so much having traveled to 5 different destinations.
I can highly recommend Sundowners, Jo was fantastic and very knowledgeable.

We used Sundowner to arrange our first trip to South Africa and we are so pleased that we did. Lucy organised an excellent itinerary for us which all went like clockwork. She was quick to respond to emails and very helpful. When our flight was delayed by 24 hours, all we had to do was to email Lucy and she sorted carhire and our first hotel booking.
As well as organising the route and booking the accommodation, Sundowner also gave us complete details of the route and timings as well as really useful suggestions on activities for each day. We would thoroughly recommend Sundowner to anyone who is considering a holiday in South Africa.

We recently returned from two weeks holiday in Sri Lanka. The whole experience was brilliant, mainly down to the ability of Lucy McKenzie and the team at Sundowner to tailor the holiday to our interests - something which a major local travel company was either unable or unwilling to do! From meeting our personal driver on arrival to making the most of our final day, everything was well organised and ran smoothly and written information was clear and well presented. All hotels were excellent and the food phenomenal. Sundowner liaised with us before, during and after our trip so we felt our custom and holiday experience was important to them. Thank you very much, Sundowner - and let’s hope recent troubles in Sri Lanka do not put people off visiting a beautiful and fascinating island.

Knowledgeable, efficient and extremely friendly! A wonderful team (especially Chelsie, who was my "go to" for the holiday planning) who ensured I had a fantastic, trouble-free vacation and an amazing collection of memories. Highly recommended - I would definitely use Sundowner again!

We booked a trip that involved 10 flights and 3 5hr drives to reach the places we wanted to go. At every step we were met on time by excellent guides/drivers who were friendly and informative. The whole trip was planned perfectly and executed just as perfectly.
We had obtained quotes from a couple of other well known companies - the trips they came up with were very similar using the same fantastic hotels, but were more expensive.
So I'd highly recommend Sundowner, not only for their excellent customer service and execution of holiday "on the ground", but also for their value for money.

The Sundowner team have been amazing throughout the whole experience, fully understanding what we were looking for in our Sri Lankan holiday and highlighting some fantastic hidden gems! The attention to detail is exceptional and really feel as though they care about creating the 'dream' holiday as much as yourself! Special mention to Jo and James who have been extremely helpful throughout always willing to go the extra mile and have made the experience a thoroughly enjoyable one, not to mentioned the countess hours saved! Our holiday in Costa Rica was even better than expected :) In the past we've booked everything ourselves, most recently driving in the Yucatan, Mexico. It would have been difficult to do the same for CR due to the complex terrain (we wanted to spend time on the Caribbean and Pacific coasts as well as in the mountains) and our complete lack of knowledge of the country, so it was great to have everything organised by Lucy. The arranged car hire involving delivery to our hotel on the first morning went smoothly. All the accommodation was excellent, and exactly as described. We found the suggested activities included in the itinerary invaluable, and thought the holiday very good value for money. We have no hesitation recommending Sundowner to other independent-minded travellers who aren't keen on conventional package holidays, but don't have the time/knowledge to arrange everything individually themselves.

This company went the extra mile to listen to what we like and then customize a holiday to meet our requirements exceedingly well. This took several emails and telephone calls until Lucy, their representative and ourselves were happy. A very comprehensive process. Not just a standard package.
The boutique hotels used were in the most stunning locations and the facilities, service and views provided were absolutely outstanding. Their knowledge and experience in planning holidays in South Africa was plain to see.
I thoroughly recommend them to you.

Excellent service from Sundowner in putting together a holiday in Costa Rica with less than four weeks to departure. Detailed itinerary tailored to our specification was received by email the day after our enquiry, then fine-tuned at our request. Personalised service great for people like us who don't want 'package' holiday, but don't have the time to research and book flights, car hire, accommodation separately.

Well we are on our last day of our sundowner holiday to Costa Rica, sitting by the pool in a Tamarindo hotel awaiting a pickup back to San Jose, with a cold beer in hand. Many thanks to Jo for putting together the most amazing holiday for us at it has to be said pretty short notice. We have not had one hiccup, bad hotel, or transfer issue ( the same cannot be said for others we have met who didn't book via sundowner). Every hotel has been excellent, every tour exceptional, and from the moment the black wallet arrived in the post 10 days before we left to this point it's all been superb! Full marks to Jo and the rest of the sundowner staff for making this such a great holiday! If you are in the market for an amazing, totally stress free Costa Rican holiday, I would have absolutely no hesitation in highly recommending the sundowner team for your booking.

We were very well looked after by Jo who was clearly very knowledgable about South Africa. She organised a fantastic itinerary and delivered exactly what we wanted in terms of budget, activities and accommodation. I would not hesitate to recommend her and the company.

Just booked a holiday to Sri Lanka and Maldives very professionally arranged by Jo. So far everything has gone very well and we are looking forward to going on holiday. Joi is always easily reached and her knowledge and expertise is much appreciated.

I have a belief in life that it is far easier to get it right than get it wrong … well Jo Shuttleworth at Sundowner certainly got it right for us. She helped plan and make the arrangements for what was to be a trip of a lifetime in Tanzania - it certainly was a trip of a lifetime and one we will never ever forget.
All the arrangements worked to plan and everything we asked for was delivered within budget.

Wow wow wow - what an amazing holiday :D

James from Sundowner Holiday did all the planning and preparation for our fantastic holiday to South Africa in August 2017. What was arranged for us and our very good friends was the most fantastic road trip along South Africa's Garden Route.

All the accommodation we stayed in was superb, so much so that it is impossible to choose a favourite as they all had fabulous qualities.

The Waterfront apartment in Cape Town was luxury city living in a fantastic location. Great to venture out around the city, visit the magnificent Table Mountain and walk up Lion’s Head. Towns around the city have beautiful beaches and restaurants, and the views driving around are superb.

The winelands were beautiful and our hotel in Stellenbosch was lovely, Spier 1692 has a great restaurant on site called Hoghouse well worth a visit. We enjoyed a trip to Hidden Valley vineyard for wine tasting with beautiful vistas and excellent food and wine. Franschhoek is a delightful town nearby with a market and lots of good places to eat and of course drink wine. Clearly an area with great wealth as it is not often you find two ‘super’ cards parked in the high street!

The owner at Lavender Hotel in Hermanus was very accommodating, helpfully arranging places to eat such as the nearby beach restaurant and the rooms we had were gorgeous with great sea views of the bay. Sadly the spring tides were exceptionally high and seas very rough so the whales were lower in numbers in the bay than usual for the time of year. Great spot for walks along the bay. Not to be missed is a meal at the restaurant Bientang’s Cave.

La Plume the ostrich farm in Oudtshoorn was beautiful. Without losing any of the advantages of modern day living, it was like going back a century in time with the décor and beautifully presented furnishings and exceptional dining room. Here we had the most gorgeous tender filet steak we have ever eaten – Ostrich. The owner and farmer Bartel, offers an interesting history of farming in the valley. The meerkat adventure was a fun start to the day. Well worth a visit.

Heading back to the coast we stayed at Robberg Beach hotel with panoramic views of the enormous bay. Fabulous walk along the sandy beach took us to a couple of beach front bars/restaurants serving seafood platters of epic portions, very nice too.

On the way to our final destination the thrill seekers in our party chose to hurl themselves off the highest bungee bridge in the world. My friend whooped and squealed the whole way, much to the delight of all those there that day.

Bit of a bumpy ride for the final 5km of our journey (wishing we had upgraded our car to a helicopter at this point!) and up a mountain pass created by elephants took us to one of the most AMAZING places, Camp Figtree. We thoroughly enjoyed 3 nights staying in the luxury tents in a remote location with just a small staff and handful of guests. Fabulous food, fabulous views of the mountains, fabulous time relaxing around the pool and on the veranda. Addo National park on the doorstep, we had our own guide from the hotel take us round the park and using his network of guides was able to ensure we saw a good variety of animals. The elephants were the highlight as they slowly emerged out from the trees in huge numbers.

What would I change about our adventure?

Nothing! Other than to extend it or repeat it. We had a new adventure everyday and offer our sincere thanks to James and his team for putting together our amazing trip to South Africa. We look forward to our next adventure with Sundowner holidays.

Fantastic company. James has organised two holidays for our family over the past 2 summers. Both to Africa, both different and both absolutely amazing. James and his colleagues are extremely approachable and amiable, no request is too much. They go out of their way to provide a wonderful holiday, to suit all of your needs. I was recommended this company by my parents who booked their holiday to South Africa last year and have raved about it ever since - so much so that I decided to go there on my honeymoon next year and book with Sundowner. I cannot fault them, they have been amazing so far. They have given me personal advice on the ideas I already had (and come up with some much better ones!) Lucy has been really great and has found some great options for me, even with my indecisiveness. I would whole-heartedly recommend Sundowner based on my experience so far, and can't wait to go on the trip of a lifetime that they've organised for my honeymoon! :)
