First tyre was a real effort to put on

First tyre was a real effort to put on, especially trying to suss out which insert to use and there is a bit of a technique to putting them in. Getting the tyre on the rim was a pain and quite long clipping into position. Second tyre on the other hand was a dream, no problem at all once you have established a bit of a technique. Once they are on they look really cool as well. I went for the superman blue as Ricky called it and they suit my bike which is a navy blue and carbon colour.

The ride...
Solid and firm but I have a trek road bike which is super stiff anyway so not much diffence on a flat surface. Only an issue if you go over a road which isnt nice and flat, it does literally feel like the its going to vibrate the bike apart. Lucky enough you dont get many sections of road like that in London and the tarmac is fairly decent.
I ride about 10 miles each way to work and I don't find the ride anymore or less comfortable. The bike does feel a bit quicker, not sure if it is my imagination though.

Grip is just the same in my opinion so nothing to report there. Didn't really feel in anymore danger in that respect. I do feel a lot safer when riding down hills though knowing my tyre isn't going to explode when doing 30-40mph! Also safe in the knowledge I'm not going to get stuck in the rain changing a puncture.

Overall I would say buy these tyres if you are riding a road bike. They really are excellent. Can't comment on mountain bikes though as I haven't tried them.

Could be much better in terms of tooling and availability of tools

The tyres arrived promptly. However, the tools for installation are very inadequate. I had to really hunt around to fin the p-tool (very scarce availability, which is bad logistics and planning) for installation and had to resort to my DIY toolbox to find suitable tools to get the tyre beads onto the rim, as the standard simple tool just would not work. Now the tyres are on, they are OK

The tyres are great

The tyres are great, but they don't send any automated emails after you order so you are left wondering if everything is going OK or not...they also only sent half my order, and then failed to send the other half the the requested revised address. Luckily it also arrived late so coincidentally ended up in the right place!

Hi Adam, Thanks for leaving us a review, i have looked in to why you didn't receive a automated email and its because the email you left on your order was incorrect?

Soon as we were aware that you had only received half your order on Thursday we got another sent straight out to you by Friday unfortunately our distribution centre sent the other half to the address they already had on file for you but glad you got them in the end

How are they tyres?

Worth every penny!

I was initially put off by the price, but after yet another puncture, I went for it and bought a pair of semi-slick tyres in melon green. They were pretty difficult to fit, but once you get the hang of it you can definitely fit them yourself.

They were worth every penny. I commute 8 miles each way. The ride is firm but comfortable, they do well on a wet road and I haven’t noticed any real difference in speed. The reassurance of not worrying about punctures is amazing. I’ve already pulled a couple of bits of glass out of them, that would definitely have punctured conventional tyres.

I would highly recommend them to anyone who is fed up of fixing punctures.

First ride on solid tyres.

Ok, so recently ordered 2 slick Tannus tyres. I received 2 fitting packs, one of which was wrong, but Tannus quickly sent a replacement, so no problem. The tyres weren't too easy to fit, but I got there 😃. Larger size tyres or bigger rims may well be easier to fit. Today was my first commute. No difference on smooth surfaces but a bit harsh on rough tarmac, but not having to worry about punctures in the dark when my fingers are lumps of ice makes it totally worthwhile! Speed possibly down by a mph or two, but still worth fitting to a commuting bike. The ride would need to be a little less harsh for me to consider fitting to my other bikes.

Fantastic product

Fantastic product. I commute 20 miles daily through central London and have been using them for two years. I feel sad for those cyclists I see mending punctures in the dark and rain and I promote the product whenever I can.

Great, as long as you are a commuter.

Great, as long as you are a commuter.

I brought my first pair of Tannus tyres about three years ago.

I was previously using Gator Skin Hard Shell tyres and I was getting punctures roughly every two to three weeks. Switched to the Tannus and didnt get any. Obviously.

Tannus have one, and only one, advantage. They DO NOT PUNCTURE.

They are more expensive than regular "tough" tyres, they have worse grip, they give you a much "harder" ride. They are a pain to get off, and on the rims. They are slower than regular tyres as well.

But they DONT PUNCTURE.

I love them and have purchased a second set already.

The back tyre usual is good for 6000 miles, with all the weight of a pannier or two on it ever day. The front can usually muster 10000 miles before its worn down.

I would recommend these to anyone who does a regular daily commute and suffers regular punctures. I would especially recommend just putting a Tannus on the rear and keeping a regular tyre on the front. Its the best compromise on my opinion.

Quite a drag

"2 stars: Poor – an inadequate experience with a lot of friction" - Literally. I tried these on my Dutch commuting bike and they made it MUCH harder to pedal. It may be because I'm quite heavy (bike and I together are well over 100kg), and/or the relatively wide 32mm tires, but I couldn't build up any speed without huge effort, and quite soon replaced them with the next best thing in puncture resistance: Schwalbe Marathon Plus.

The most durable tyre

I was always looking for a tyre that would not puncture as I did not like the hassle of ever having to stop and fit a new tube in the cold dark and rain ,where your hands would be numb and to be honest it's a palava
Many would think this tyre is slow but it's exactly the same as a tyre with air my journey times are the same as I used to use schwalbe marathon plus as they are level 6 but the tannus is the highest level of tyre you can get
If you want peace of mind no pumps or tubes to carry forget tubeless set up with the gluey stuff that you pour into the tyre tannus beats all that trouble
If your even a casual cyclist you can put tannus tyres on and leave your bike in the garage for months and one day you want to start cycling you go to get the bike and no need to check tyre pressure as these are solid
Even a nail can't stop you from getting to work and home in good time
If your saving your train fare for the month
Mine 225.00 you might aswell buy a pair of these and then you can use a pair for at least 3 to 4 years what a saving and no hassle
Your also keeping fit saving time money and being green it's a no brainer
Go and buy a pair for your bike now

Tannus Tyres - Great Purchase

I purchased Tannus tyres for both my winter bike and my hybrid bike and have been very pleased with them. I don't think they are intended to be a replacement for a lightweight racing tyre. They are more aimed at commuting and social cyclists, rather than those seeking the lightest most responsive tyre.

I find they give a slightly harsher ride than traditional puncture resistant tyres such as gatorskins, but you soon adapt. The certainty of knowing you are not going to suffer a puncture is fantastic.

I‘m very happy about the quality and longevity of the Tires, but the Customer Service and the Time‘s of Delivery are a big Problem.
The next Thing is the difficulty to uptain the Tires in a other Lands that‘s not England, I hope that in the near future you will increase your number of stores and improve shipping.

A bit tricky to get on the rim single …

A bit tricky to get on the rim single handed. Worked out that gradually securing the tyre on the rim with tie raps worked like an extra paid of hands.
Getting the pins to click into the rim takes a bit of practice.

In use the tyres are great, but I’m no speed merchant. Proper racing cyclists may give a different opinion.
The big advantage is no pre-cycle “punction repair checklist” (check the pressure, got pump, spare tube, tools, repair kit...). Just get on the bike and peddle - 15 minutes off my journey right there!

Absolutely perfect on decent surfaces, but can make the bike shake a bit,on road surfaces that are not the best, but it’s worth suffering that, for puncture free riding

6+ month Tannus Tyre User Review

I have had Tannus tyres for about 6+ months now. Obviously the big win has been no punctures which is great as I commute on bike in London everyday. However, I never did suffer a huge amount of punctures when I ran with gatorskin tyres and slime inner tubes. From a peace of mind perspective it's a real winner though.

The downsides I've found is that they seem to have worn down quite quickly, I ride 8 miles most days and they have really flattened off in about 6 months. They also make the ride very hard and increase any rattle and noises you may have previously had (bike lock for me). Considering they are very slick I've had no problems with grip in rain and even icy conditions. However, I do feel they have a noticeably higher rolling resistance as I used to be consistently over taking other commuters whereas now I seem to get overtaken more. Given the cost of the tyres especially if you pay to have them fitted as I did, I'm not sure I'd bother with them again as they don't seem to last as long as traditional tyres and the ride and speed drawbacks.

Used them for a couple hundred miles only, as in wet they give no grip, i came off twice. Hard ride. Not for me, in town for comutting they would be perfect, but for my leisure riding in country not really suitable.

Hi Jim,

Sorry you did not have the best experience with the tyres, we have had the grip tested in all sorts of conditions and loads both in house and independently verified buy TUV in Germany, all tests in terms of grip and breaking match or exceed that of a regular tyre
