A well constructed course covering the changing nature Art through the ages. 12 modules with plenty of reference material to expand the user's knowledge on specific areas. Well supported by Tutors who mark and comment on module assignments with clarity and encouragement
The modules are well written and informative. The feedback from the tutors is excellent, always positive and encouraging. I liked the flexibility of no deadlines.
It is reasonably flexible in assignment dates etc which can be invaluable if Covid strikes!!! I have been impressed with the detailed content of each module and have understood a terrific amount why art is art!!
The assignment marking is fast and accurate with much insight into your answers . There is a constant improvement part of feedback that helps as you progress through positively
The module was difficult, a lot of dense text and perhaps too many artist names to make sense of what the author was trying to say. However, as ever, it was superbly referenced and enabled me to do a lot of my own reading.
An excellent course - the modules are all extremely well compiled by academic Art Historians and are concise and clear while encouraging further reading. The assignments are constructed in a way which supports a thorough enquiry into the topic before reaching a conclusion sufficiently well informed to make a short answer! Marks and feedback are very helpful and promptly provided.
I am really enjoying this art appreciation course. I like the fact each module is written by a different art historian expert in that particular field. Having the same tutor on the other hand is reassuring as they are able to monitor your progress over the course and give guidance. My tutor is always prompt to mark my work, has positive feedback but also gives constructive advice on how to improve my answers to the assignment questions. I like the fact you have to complete each module before starting the next. I am fortunate to live in London and be able to visit both permanent art works and exhibitions at various galleries that tie in directly with the course. This has further enriched my experience and made the course even more relevant for me personally.
I have always been interested in art, looking, reading and painting and because of my own impatience photography, I used to teach photography. As a Chartered Building Surveyor FRICS I also have an interest in Architecture and a passion is learning. Therefore I embarked on the Art Appreciation course which is absolutely wonderful, the time lines and the history are just marvellous, my regret is that soon I will finish it.
As a 40 something who left school at 15, this course has been extremely enjoyable and invigorating. Some modules are more challenging than others, and it's been fascinating to learn newfound appreciation for movements that I had no previous interest in.
My only niggle (hence the 4 out of 5 star rating) with the way the course is presented would be the assignment questions 250 word count restriction. While I understand the method behind this, I have found it frustrating to read feedback noting a desire for me to develop my ideas further, but I am unable to because of the restrictive word count. If this was pushed to 400 to allow for further exploration then for sure this would be a 5 star course (in my opinion)
Apart from this minor niggle, the course has been a wonderful journey, and with only two modules to go, I'm definitely going to purchase the advanced modules to extend my knowledge and learning, plus I'm far from ready for this journey to end just yet.
Really enjoying the course. I am learning loads too. It’s really interesting and my tutor has been very helpful with any issues.
The tutor always gives speedy, informative feedback.
The module materiel is up to date and interesting
I have completed 5 modules (of 12) so far. Course material has been pretty good for four of the Modules.
The other was not well structured. I think it was the work of someone highly intelligent and knowledgeable but who didn't have the knack of condensing and presenting for 'amateurs'. This was flagged up to the Art Institute and it turned out I was not the only student to have struggled. The AI has taken the criticism on board and responded positively and constructively. The AI has promised to have that particular Module re-authored, and has agreed to make the re-written material available to me when it is ready. My personal Tutor/Assignment Marker has been very supportive and has always responded promptly and usefully. On balance, I am very happy with the Course so far; but I do struggle with the limited word count permitted for Assignments. It seems bizarre to me to provide such richness of material, such intellectual stimulation to do further personal research outwith the provided Module, and then stymie the opportunity to express the breadth and success of the learning. I acknowledge the need for succinctness of Answers, not least for the sanity and time-constraints of the Tutor/Markers. My personal Tutor/Marker is very understanding that I am new to 'academic' or 'scholastic' writing. I think she sees that I am working hard to condense/compress my Answers; and trusts I will have mastered the skill by the time I get to the end, Module 12.
5 down, 7 more to go. I'm really enjoying the Course, and the mental stimulation. I take this opportunity to thank my Tutor/Marker for her professionalism, approachability and always good-natured encouragement.
I’ve just completed module 10 of this course and I am still really enjoying it. In fact I’m disappointed that there are only 2 modules left! My tutor feedback from Stephen Farthing continues to be really helpful and student support give excellent customer service. I chose this course on the strength of their great reviews and it has not disappointed. I 100% recommend it.
I have really enjoyed my Art Institute ArtHistory Apple citation Diploma Course so far. I’m just about to start Unit 11 (of 12) so not long now before I finish the course. I have learned a great deal about periods and artists I wasn’t familiar with ~ which has been great. My tutor has been very supportive and helpful. His feedback has been invaluable. It’s been challenging to write up the end of unit assessment questions, mainly because I had to be very concise to stay within the word count. But I think this was helpful in that it has made me focus on the key points. I would recommend the course to anyone interested in art history.
Excellent introductory articles backed by comprehensive and far reaching reading lists. Searching assignment questions mean you have to really apply your learning. The feedback from Stephen Farthing has been detailed, spot on and as valuable part of my learning as the reading and looking. A fantastic course.
The course has been really interesting and better than I had expected. The course material is well written and current. I have found using the web site to access materials and upload assignments very straightforward and my on-line tutor has been quick to respond with helpful feedback. I highly recommend this course for anyone wishing to understand the history of art in more detail.
Very interesting modules. Covered so much & easily accessible. Good support from the tutor. Planning to build on my learning with additional
modules too. Well worth it. An excellent course.
My experience of this course has been been fabulous and extremely valuable. I’ve really enjoyed every module which has each been written by an expert in their field. You have access to a tutor, and the feedback has been useful too. Only two more modules to do. Thinking what else next!
The modules are well written, with plenty of illustrations. The assignments help me to reflect upon my learning. They are marked promptly and the comments are constructive, friendly and encouraging.I really like that each module notes tell you where to see the art that is being discussed, and yesterday I took myself to Tate Britain and really enjoyed my own field trip!
